What are you reading right now?

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 10:30 pm

Just got done reading I Am Legend by Richard Matheson, which is my favorite book, again. Everybody should read it. the only book I know of that has actual Zombievampires.

Not reading anything at this moment but I'm going to go to the bookstore probably next week and get a few things.

I'm thinking:

Divine Comedy - Dante Alojinglebingleyberry

The Illustrated Man - Ray Bradbury (my favorite [censored] EVER. The Illustrated Man is a collection of short stories that he wrote and it is the one and only single solitary thing that I actually learned about in all my years of school that I felt was worth my time. I highly recommend this.)

Atlas Shrugged - Ayn Rand

those should keep me busy for a little while.

Tekumel: The Man of Gold
Its a persistant universe in the nonspace of MAR Barker's inner ass. Its the best worldbuilding I've read since the 1stE PGE.

Then there's The Noblest Triumph

I am Legend is way better than the movie, and different too. Will Smith is good but movies never are as good as the books.

Yeah the Will Smith one was a good movie but it should not have been called I am Legend. The only similarities between that version and the book were the title and the name of the main character. There was a movie back in the 50s, not too long after the book was written and it was based on the book and followed it very well, it's called The Last Man on Earth. it rules.

three books

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: The Ultimate Collection (This volume comes with every HHTTGTTG book Douglas Adams wrote. I've kinda gotten bored of this one, I'm halfway through it, plan on getting back to it later on)

The American Lion: Andrew Jackson in the White House (So far the most interesting of the three books I'm reading, I was interested In Andrew Jackson in History Class and my Teacher recommended the book to me so I'm reading it now)

Churchill (this is by far the hardest to get through, I don't even know if I'm going to finish it, it's pretty dry and because it's about Winston Churchill, there's a lot of British Lore and politics that my small American brain is completely ignorant of making the book rather difficult to follow at times, plus, it's a HUGE book, I've just barely gotten a chapter into it and being as lost as I am in the book discourages me. I'll probably get back to it later on in life if I ever learn the jist of Britain)

School hasn't given any assigned reading in a while

I'm reading an omnibus called "The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" which as you may have already guessed, contains the entire Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series. I'm currently on Life, the Universe, and Everything it's a pretty good read but so far my favorite has been The Restaurant at the End of the Universe.

welcome to the club, I stopped reading halfway through "Life, The Universe and Everything" probably get back to it at some point

Really nice for a book on American history.
I'm also planning to re-read World War Z when my sis returns it to me again. I read it already months ago, but after watching Z films lately I thought about the book again :)

Both books are in English.

Damn it, I knew someone had to have said it.
I guess I'll have to do a serious answer then. The Earthsea Quartet.

Is that the last one? I can't remember. The first three were great, but I never finished the last one. It wasn't all that funny, seemed pointless and boring to me, and contradicted the rest of the series (on purpose). Perhaps he did it on purpose to annoy people. Either way, I don't think I'll ever finish the last one.

I'm also reading posts by people that have clearly gone insane ;P

Also I intend to read "The Truth" at some point in the future, just as soon as I find I can no longer recall the twist which was spoiled for me =/

The Scarlet Letter.

Actually pretty good for a school assigned book.

Its not, it really isn't. It was assigned to my class, I was only one of about 4 peopel to read it the whole way through. It really lacks anything I look for in a book, coherent plot, identifiable characters, oh, and its too verbose, like Hawthorne actually set out to write an epic. His pompousity is evident throughout. There is much better stuff written in that era, even if most of it was written by the drivelling bleeding heart hypocrite dikeens.

Make Love The Bruce Campbell Way by Bruce Campbell.

Dude, I love that guy. I'm gonna have to pick that book up.

I forgot two other books. Cryptonomicon by Neal Stephenson. Started reading htis book several years ago. Got a quarter of the way through it, realised it was way over my head and shelved it. I've been meaning to re-read it again since I'm older and may now get it. Timeline by Michael Crichton; movie svcked but the book was phenominal.

Wyrd Sisters (A Discworld Novel) from Terry Pratchett.

Not the best one I've read so far but it's alright.

I just finished reading Ender's Shadow by Orson Scott Card. The book was pretty good but I have read better by that author. I think I will head to my local library today and see if they have the latest in the Thomas Covenant series by Stephen R Donaldson. The passion with which the people in "The Land" live their lives always brings me to tears at some point, I love that series and I own the entire set except for the lastest book.

I read Ender's Game as required summer reading when I was 14.
