I was a frequent here around 2003, when I was playing Morrowind. I'd come here and look for cool hints or helpers and everything about this community was great. None of the posters had egos and just about everyone was helpful and cheerful. I joined in 2005 and made sure to keep up the positive attitude and ensure this forum remained free from the whole "internet is full of trolls" stereotype that most forums fulfill.
Then Oblivion came out, and we got hundreds of new members who loved it. Most of us who thought Morrowind was better seemed to feel left behind a bit, but we (for the most part) didn't cause too many problems. There were a lot of Morrowind vs. Oblivion debates, but all in all we were still arguing which was better between two very good games. And for the most part, the nostalgia won. If you played Morrowind first, you liked it over Oblivion. If you played Oblivion first, you liked it over Morrowind.
The lead up to Skyrim was long and filled with intrigue, and this community was still proving to be arguably the best in the gaming industry. After release, however, it seems like it's become even worse than atrocious ones such as Call of Duty or Halo, or even FABLE.
Think so huh? CD was worse than all forums here combined..several occasions it was almost shut down. But it's ok for the other sections to assplode in chaos.
It's non-stop hating, complaining, trolling, bashing of people on the forums and Bethesda, and a complete 180% turn from the way it was before. Very few posters have anything positive to say and even less contribute and help solve issues and problems other people are having.
I had enough of Bethesda. I was always leaning towards not being on their side, but at the same time, I was not following the crowd of non sensical haters - I was trying to be reasonable, trying understand what the hell were they doing and why. But now, [censored] that. None of this makes any sense. Don't care about them, they can release as much [censored] up crap as they want. I've moved on. As for the community - it is what it is. They are tired of the [censored].
What caused this? Was it the fact that Bethesda kept trying to attract a broader fanbase, which brought in the 'bad eggs' its fanbase from Morrowind and before never had, or is it just that game fans are spoiled and expect too much now?
There is the half here that are spoiled from MMOs(or actually BURNED by them).
