What happened to the Elder Scrolls community here?

Post » Fri Dec 09, 2011 1:02 am

Why are we fighting amongst ourselves? :shakehead:

All this talk of elitist forums (although it is true for the Lore forum...) is pulling us apart, when we should be working together! How else will we stand united against the evil forces of the Skyrim forum. :(

Sons of Morrowind! Of Oblivion! My brothers. I see in your eyes the same fear that would take the heart of me. A day may come when the courage of the community fails, when we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship, but it is not this day. An hour of trolls and stupid threads when the Age of Todd comes crashing down, but it is not this day! This day we fight! By all that you hold dear on this good forum, I bid you stand, Men of Community Discussion!

Well Batman just goes without saying, but we still may need to resort to praying.

What caused this? Was it the fact that Bethesda kept trying to attract a broader fanbase, which brought in the 'bad eggs' its fanbase from Morrowind and before never had, or is it just that game fans are spoiled and expect too much now?

If by 'bad eggs' you mean MMO players, then yes, that is the reason.

Game got popular, it went mainstream, the forum population more than doubled with the release of Skyrim so now there are just more [censored]s. And the more seasoned members are sick and tired of it and want the classics which are better, back.

Skyrim just hit the mainstream of the mainstream attention. It calms down with time.

Look on the bright side. No more morons posting, "WAT R U DOIN TILL SKRYIM!!!" threads.

On the dark side, that expansion announcement is likely only a year or less away...

Why is that the dark side? The sooner the better, and I can avoid the forums.

The people who cant stand folks who dont worship Skyrim make it a bad place. Someone said they felt bored of Skyrim lready, then an [censored] posted "Everyone has an oppinion, but the OPs is wrong". So thats the skyrim section turned to [censored] with people like that. nd the fallout section I havent visited in some time, but I got tired of tthe 3 v NV arguments.

So yeh you have more people, with different oppinions, and [censored]s who cant respect your oppinion.

Still not the wrst, that goes to Bioware, and last I checked the fable community was dead, or just infested with casuals, dont remmnber much anymore. Except one guy, best troll ever.

I used to know most of the people when I was posting in the MW mod forum back in 2004-2005 era. Now it's like there's a newly registered member for every post. I wish it would go back to the way it was.

Your not suggesting believing Todd to destroy this forum and return us to the pre Bethesda era where we were our own gods floating around in Myspace. And before GStaff tricked Todd and the other moderators into creating this site are you?

My only complaint is that community discussion is much less active than it was back when I was in high school.

I accidentally left in September (lurked less and less until I just didn't come anymore), and once I came back for Skyrim, the Skyrim forum was pretty much what I expected; as chaotic as the New Vegas forum was after that came out, and just as facepalm inducing (of course for different reasons). But in that absence I got hooked on http://www.reddit.com/, and thanks to the constant availability of new threads in the many different subreddits I frequent, Community Discussion seems slower than ever before. But I'm not sure if it really did get less active over that time or if I just need to re-learn how to be active on a comparatively slow forum.

Anyway, as others have said, the Skyrim forum will calm down and shape up eventually. I just hope people at Bethesda don't actually read the Skyrim forum, because right now there's nothing to find there other than complaining and insults directed at them. The ferocity of some of these new members would have me and my thin skin huddled in a corner if I worked there. "Oh god oh god, these people complain about anything, what do we do *sobs*"

Yeah, I noticed that too, even though I didn't join for another year. I remember thinking to myself, "I wish I'd joined prior to late September last year, because things seemed to really go downhill then." Honest.

Look at exo's join date, then you'll get the joke :D

I think perspective can make things seem worse than they are. I joined shortly after the Oblivion release and I'm sure I was one of the annoying teenagers at the time. Now I'm in college, and while I still admit I have some growing up to do, all those immature raging children on the forums now offer a very sharp contrast to the standards of behavior I am accustomed to seeing exhibited by my peers. Switching to PC gaming was another change in perspective which also makes some of the changes in the community more difficult to deal with. But, I'm sure that with time things will mellow out, though they may never be quite how they used to.

What happened? Bethesda didn't make a a carbon copy of Morrowind. Then, Bethesda didn't make a carbon copy of Fallout 1 & 2. Then Bethesda allowed Obsidian to not make a carbon copy of Fallout 1 & 2. And finally, Bethesda decided for a second time to not make a carbon copy of Morrowind. That's what happened.

Morrowind was a good game and all, well above a lot of crap, but it wasn't the second coming of Messiah.

That's my guess anyway...

Careful, in some parts around here that sort of thinking can get you flamed to the point of 3rd degree burns.
