What? No scimitar support?

Technically, IRL ebony is a wood.

But technically, in Skyrim, it's not real life

My Redguard, who dual-wields scimtars (Ishtar and Inanna), was crushed to discover that not only are there no glass, Daedric, Orcish, Dwarven, and even worse, no ebony scimitars, and that they can't even be smithed.

What's up with this? Is this RACISM? I want to be able to smith scimitars out of everything. Even wood and leather!

each new title in the elderscroll series has had less weapons types than the last. i would estimate skyrim lost a 1/6th of the weapons availble with the loss of shortblades alone. and oblivion lost even more than that from what was removed from morrowind.

that said, they occasionally do toss in there a solitary weapon that has not been in any of the previous games, such as scimitars in this case.

That does not make up for the lack of Tantos, Wakisashis and Crossbows.
Luckily, i use the Third Era Weaponry mod.

Did you see those warriors from Hammerfell? They have curved swords. Curved. Swords.

^ This!

Agreeing with the OP though. It's a shame that there really isn't a wide selection of Scimitars out there, but at the same time this is Skyrim after all. Concerning the whole crafting side of it though. Daedric Scimitars don't really seem too-.. dark and foreboding. But that's just me. Scimitars just don't intimidate me like a good ol'warhammer!

You're in Skyrim, not Hammerfell.

I know right!?!? Just another milk drinker from Hammerfell...lol JK JK @OP
However I would love to see glass or daedric scimitars.

Curved. Swords.
Curved. Swords.
Curved. Swords.
Curved. Swords.

Agreed. I want a leather warhammer!

I actually wanted a proper leather class in light armor, with at least a leather-type bow.

Haha, win.

They have provided PLENTY of types of weapons. There are:
Dagger
Sword
Greatsword
Axe
Battle-axe
Mace
Warhammer
Bow

For each type of material. That's a LOT of weapons. Be grateful. Not to mention all of the other random weapons not associated with a material, such as the Silver weapons, unique weapons, Artifacts, quest items, etc.

short shords -O
broad swords-M
dia katana-M
katana-M
crossbows-M
throwing stars-M
staffs [as a weapon] -M

and thats what i can think of off the top of my head that are missing from the game. the one with O afterwards was in oblvion but not in skyrim, and the ones with an M afterwards was in morrowind but was removed from oblivion.

thats nearly as many weapons types [which have several different material levels such as iron-daedric] that have been removed from the series and not replaced with any thing at all as there are in skyrim. why should any one be thankful for getting half of what they should be getting at the very least.

I don't get this uproar about the lack of pants; if it was acceptable for me to go about my day in it's entirety without ever putting on a pair of pants I absolutely would.

And yet, no previous games had Scimitars. What's this? A weapon was added?

A shame it's texture is low-res, and the mesh isn't great either.

I have steel scimitars (flawless). 1 named Ishtar and 1 named Inanna. Named for the goddess of six and warfare in Babylonian and Sumerian. I got them from the Redguard's hunting down that woman.

What I was complaining about is, that I can't get a scimitar made of glass, orc metal, dwarf metal or ebony. Or iron, for that matter. I can upgrade the steel ones, but can't make them.

So, even though I can realize my character concept, I can't make the swords he uses in anything but steel.

So "scimitar" is just one culture's version of sword not a distinct type of weapon. Also an Orcish sword is slightly curved with a single blade and looks more like a scimitar than say an elven sword.

You contradicted yourself. A culture's version of a sword IS a distinct weapon. No other cultures use it. It is distinct.

If there are Redguards, there are Redguard smiths, and if there are Redguard smiths, one of them wrote a book on how to make Scimitars. Besides the simple fact that, If I can upgrade a scimitar, and make ebony weapons, I can make an ebony scimitar. Did you ever see "The 13th Warrior"? Antonio Banderas' character shows a Nord how to make a scimitar. The movie is fantasy. So is this game. It's not illogical :)

Also, most guards would probably implode if they saw you wielding curved swords in person. Curved. Swords.

Had been so cool with an random chance that enemies had a random chance on stopping up and commenting on your sword before attacking.

You could say that your weapons were taken from you when you were captured, and now you have to play with different weapons - while still searching for your scimitars. Who knows, you may find them one day when a modder puts out those type weapons, and if you're on the PC, of course.

Good luck.

A sword is a sword, though, whether it's a Talwar, Pulwar, Sabre, Claybeg, Arming Sword, Gladius, Falcata, Estoc, Spatha, Katana, Daito, Machete, or any other type of sword.

At least the Scimitar's a Steel weapon with the damage of an Elven weapon.

The reason there are no Glass Scimitars is the same reason there are no Daedric Zweihanders or Iron Claymores - Every tier of sword is a different type of sword. Except Steel, which gets three different types.

That is a silly excuse.
If they are so similar then Beth could have just added a bunch of meshes for them and it wouldn't have cost them anything.
