What? No scimitar support?

Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 1:30 pm

My Redguard, who dual-wields scimtars (Ishtar and Inanna), was crushed to discover that not only are there no glass, Daedric, Orcish, Dwarven, and even worse, no ebony scimitars, and that they can't even be smithed.

What's up with this? Is this RACISM? I want to be able to smith scimitars out of everything. Even wood and leather!

You're in Skyrim, not Hammerfell.

Did you see those warriors from Hammerfell? They have curved swords. Curved. Swords.

I think the support extends a little bit beyond that.

If you are on the PC you can get a mod that lets you smith scimitars. Then improve them and you'll be fine. Smithing is so powerful that you can easily get a very powerful scimitar if you want it.

Also, most guards would probably implode if they saw you wielding curved swords in person. Curved. Swords.

i think you're on to something here, i think you should be able to make any style of sword, out of any material you have the perks for. I.e. an ebony scimitar. same for armor....i would love to have daedric in the style of banded iron.

There are scimitars available:

Spoiler

They can be collected off the Alik'r warriors and they are better than
dwarven blades, so that means that really only elven, glass, ebony and daedric
weapons are better. Just keep improving them at the grindstone and the are
cheaper to improve than other comparable weapons.

Haha, win.

They have provided PLENTY of types of weapons. There are:
Dagger
Sword
Greatsword
Axe
Battle-axe
Mace
Warhammer
Bow

For each type of material. That's a LOT of weapons. Be grateful. Not to mention all of the other random weapons not associated with a material, such as the Silver weapons, unique weapons, Artifacts, quest items, etc.

Oblivion was the same. They had scimitars but none made of special metals. At least in Skyrim though you can use smithing to upgrade them.

Its also pity the Hammerfell garb is only clothing and not a form of armor.

oh i'm not complaining in the slightest. there are however not as many weapons as there have been in previous games. and thats fine, i meant more along the lines of some nice personalization options for weapons and armors, cuz it's just skins and numbers as opposed to tons of actual variations of weapons

Also, Scimitars are a type of weapon that is not generally crafted by all types of people. It's a traditional weapon, from Hammerfall. The idea of a Daedric Scimitar is..illogical at best.

WHAR IS MAH WOODEN ARMOR, DURNIT.

LOL, you laugh, but it's been done before!

It was mostly humor, but in Janny Wurtz and Ramymond E. Feist novel series, the "Tsurani" people wielded leather swords. They had very, very, very little metal on their homeworld, and most metal was restricted to jewelry and ceremonial items. So they used resins to make leather hard, then sharpened them. A great deal lighter than any metal sword, and you could swing it very quickly and dexterously (if that's a word).

Sure, it's fantasy, but so is this game. And 2 different authors wrote fantasy series including this concept  So a precedent has already been set in "Swords and Sorcery" fantasy

ok we'll follow the logic argument.....so if i'm capable of upgrading a scimitar, and building daedric armor from scratch i should logically be able to make them. thats how blacksmithing actually works.

I would think of this in a different way.

There are swords, and each sword represents a different culture. An Imperial sword is steel, a Hammerfell scimitar sword is steel, a Altmer sword is the Elvish one, an Orc sword is the orcish one, a Dwemer sword is the Dwarven one and so on.

So "scimitar" is just one culture's version of sword not a distinct type of weapon. Also an Orcish sword is slightly curved with a single blade and looks more like a scimitar than say an elven sword.

i woudl think that if my blacksmithing skill is X and i have perks for making certain types of gear. i should be able to combine the to make an elven style sword out of glass. it would be logical to assume a blacksmith could do this.
