What type of followers do you want?

Post » Mon Mar 28, 2011 4:59 pm

Ones that have realistic HP and have downsides as well as upsides. I want followers like the original fallouts. In FO3 they are just dumb and super strong.

It would be cool if we could have some stagegirls follow us around.

They don't even have to fight, I just wanna look like a pimp.

Agreed, even though Charon was and still is my pal it doesn't make sense that Feral Ghouls will attack him. Also, what the hell is up with him being allowed into Tenpenny Tower? If a settlement is bigoted they should actually show it.

Unfortunately I have been turned-off by followers for the most part because the AI just isn't far-enough evolved for my liking. As a sneaky/sniper type most of the time, I found it Incredibly annoying when my follower would go into combat without orders, would not follow me reliably, or would say/do annoying things that would either blow my cover or ruin my sense of immersion. Tarrant brought NPC AI a little closer to what I one day hope for, but with the Fo3 AI it was very hard to be a sneaky sniper and remain hidden with friendly NPCs following.

I don't expect that to improve (much) in New Vegas, but here I also hope to be proved wrong. Maybe in addition to the companion wheel they gave the NPC AI a few more IQ points and I'll be pleasantly surprised. Realistically though, I don't expect "slick" NPC AI for many years yet. I'll give em a try in New Vegas to see if things have improved, but likely I'll be the lone wolf still. :hehe:

I want a human, preferably either witty or morally ambiguous. Or with Jericho's kind of attitude.

Just to mention, my followers usually stay in my house. I'm a stealth guy, and they piss me off alot. If the follower AI is significantly better, that's great. If not, hello fixture for my house.

I've read somewhere that the companion wheel now has additional settings on it for your companion (such as passive, agressive and what not)

I want Marcus to be a companion. Then my non-humanoid will be a robot if they have any.

I still dont know what i want. if you do please share..... :bonk:

Less powerful followers. So far I love all of the announced companions, because none of them seem superhuman in any way. In Fallout 3, I liked Jericho the best by far, if for no other reason that there was a decent chance he'd get killed if I got careless. His personality packed far ore punch than his shotgun, that is how it should be.

Yes, Skynet was apparantly a follower you could obtain in Fallout 2. Skynet was an AI in army depot that you could convince to join you and give it a robobrain body. Depending on which brain you gave it, Skynet would have varying degrees of usefulness.

For some reason I remember it being difficult to get the monkey brain... I could get the abnormal or human pretty easy.. and with the right amount of science it was pretty easy to get the cyber brain... I thought the monkey brain would be fun to have so I really remember trying to get that one. Although I don't remember if there was any special funny dialogue to go with each of the brains..

I want a close assault/Heavy Weapons Guy I can lean on if I need. I want one sniper in my party, as well. Lastly, Dogmeat is pretty cool, so he's got a guaranteed spot. With the exception of the close assault/heavy weapons guy(As Marcus will likely have an absolutely abysmal Sneak skill due to being a super mutant), they must be capable of sneaking. While in Sneak mode they had best listen to the companion wheel settings I choose, I don't need my position being given away.

I suppose it's not too much to ask of the AI to not shoot me in the ass every other battle, either, is it? Fawkes was really bad about that. Big FF problem with him.

I wonder if you can have Marcus use a stealth boy to make up for his bad sneak skill. I'd be like you have your own nightkin.

i want one that doesn't run [censored]...... example Fawkes even though it was funny
one that doesn't get killed in one shot...... example dog meat
i don't want them to be like ohhhh you have to buy them...... every follower except dog meat, Fawkes, and that brotherhood of steel.....
meaning you have to do a quest to get them like boone

For non humanoid, I would love a dog. But not as a damage dealer. If it could jump up on the closes humanoid enemy, trip them, and pin them to the ground for the duration of the fight that would be perfect. Failing that, having it attack and cripple the weapon arms of enemies would be nice as well. In short, more of a crowd control, then DPS.

K-9 (http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/K-9) (or a more generic cyber hound) might also be interesting. Especially if we could heal it after combat with the science skill (even from it being completely disabled), using amour repair kits.

For humanoid, someone likes Jericho, but more sarcastic and still not to moral. Combat wise, a bit more stealth capable, and maybe a bit better at taking damage (to make up for bad AI).

Also, someone like Mr Burk, could be a fun companion. Not the actual Burk, but the same kind of personality.

A pet kitten.

With an achivement for keeping it alive.

That would be nice. And funny I'd bet. Although some kittens have a lot of energy and know trouble when they see it, darting off to hide quickly up a tree, so it might not be as tough as it would seem. Depends on the age of the kitten.

As far as companions, once I max out my levels, then I add a companion so they don't steal my XP points by killing enemies for me. After I can't earn XP, the more powerful companions are welcome.

Companions are timid of Ledges:

Hopefully this time, they'll be able to jump off of small ledges without having to walk around for half a mile away to find a ramp to 'safely walk down'... Poor AI in FO3 for that aspect.
