I went into the barrow and cleared it out before scouting the Whiterun area.

Oh, this is kind of embarrassing. You see, I haven′t played Skyrim one second. I′m just curious as to what others do straight off the bus so to speak as I know how the game begins.

Really? What Bethesda games do you play? And why haven't you played Skyrim yet? ;-)

The first thing Scylla did was go straight back to Helgen, to see if there were any of those fetching Imperials left alive. She was disappointed that the dragon killed them all. She was hoping to introduce their necks to the blade of her axe.

After that she just wandered, and ended up in Riverwood more by chance then anything else. She sold off her loot, then went across the river to investigate that big ruin (Bleak Hills Barrow) she saw over there without even starting either quest associated with it.

Spoiler
It may be just me, but the terrain seems to be designed so that you head in the direction of Riverwood. It is all downhill that way, and the roads go there. There are the three standing stones along the path, and you pass by Embershard Mine, which makes a good introductory dungeon (a lot like Vilverin was in Oblivion). My impression is that the area is designed to coax you that way. I have started three characters, and all have ended up in Riverwood, even though I never outright planned to go there with any of them.

Well I was going to say went to riverwood but in reality...
Picked a flower
this^
Followed Ralof to riverwood picking all the ingredients I came across and killing some wolves, listen to the conversation between him and his sister, sold my loot, explored the town and talked to people. Then went off to bleak falls barrow. Boring I know, that’s probably what most people did. I got attacked by a DB assassin, no idea what I did to piss someone off that early in the game.

I play Morrowind and Oblivion and I′ve looked at Fallout 3 but never gotten around to buy it. Well, I don′t play Skyrim because I′m too occupied with Oblivion, and I kinda have a thing against the new approach where I just can′t buy, install and forever play without having an internet connection.
Call me old school ;)

But I′m glad you′re enjoying it!

Wow. You REALLY should play Fallout 3; that has to be one of my all-time favorites. I can't wait to see what Bethesda does with Fallout 4 now that they have their new(ish) Creation engine. I don't blame you for protesting Skyrim due to the idiotic DRM issues that Steam forces upon PC players (disclaimer: I'm currently playing Skyrim on the 360), but I hear that after the initial validation of the game, you can switch it to offline mode and not have to worry about it afterwards. Also, you're denying yourself the chance to experience a truly masterful game by not playing Skyrim; I highly recommend you reconsider. But, if you do, make sure to play Fallout 3 first, because if you're still playing Oblivion, that means you are die-hard RPer, and you'll need to get Fallout 3 out of the way before you really immerse yourself within Skyrim.

After a brief stop at riverwood, picked a town at random and began hiking there. Turned out to be winterhold, joined the mages guild and now on course to becoming an all powerful conjurer.

Followed Hadvar to Riverwood, cleared out his uncle's house of everything I could pick up, got some smithing training with his uncle, sold stuff, got the golden claw quest, then off to Whiterun - I essentially do what it takes to get the house in Whiterun to have somewhere to store things - then it's get outdoors and explore
I do the same thing with pretty much all my characters

I think I picked a flower and looked at it in the inventory. Then I followed Hadvar, picked a stone, saw Embershard mine and walked up to it and killed the guy outside.

I remember the very first play after the tutorial. When the NPC said follow me, well, my phone rang at that moment, and I expected the game to pause that NPC, as they usually do. Get done with that call and look and no NPC to follow. So, I stumbled around the area around Helgin for quite a while that play through.

Next character that I started, I kid you not, the phone rang again at about the time the NPC says follow me. I ignored the phone this time. When I start my third character this week, I am unplugging than dang phone, or taking it off the hook until I am in Riverwood.

What are the odds of that happening twice?? :D

But yeah, turning off your phone would be a wise thing to do now, huh?

I did the flower-picking thing, caught a butterfly, wantonly slaughtered the hunter near the Guardian Stones and threw her body in the river before taking her stuff to Riverwood to sell to the merchant who didn't seem to mind the gear I brought him having a myriad of holes and fresh blood on it.

I haven`t looked at anyone else`s responses, but i followed the Imperial guy to his Brothers or uncle I think it was and stayed the night then went off and explored. I bumped into this village with some wizard who was trying to slay some undead, so I accompanied him to the place and helped him out- My first job!

Pics or it didn't happened, only way you can kill with console or to have crap lot of arrows (console too).
ha no there's a 3rd way, use the environment to your advantage...i did the stick and move tactic while moving between a small rock formation in the plains near whiterun.
I have nothing to prove so you don't have to believe me but i rubbed it in my friends face by sending him a photo at 1am on 11/11..he sent me a photo an hour later of a dead giant using my tactics :)

I wish I had the time to really RP as much as I'd like to, but reality gets in the way. *sighs* Stoopid reality. ;) I figure, what's the point of playing RPGs if you don't RP, you know? Anyhoo, yes, definitely think about it. It's worth tolerating DRM crap, trust me.
