When have YOU used storm call?

Post » Tue Jun 12, 2012 12:55 am

During the last MQ. It was a fail.
Not knowing what I've gotten myself into, I spent ages running around *place* waiting for the Shout bar to recharge so I could take down *sentient life form*
I haven't used it since, I should try though.

I tried to use it back when I hadn't put Lydia on Essential yet...usually it killed her, unless I told her to wait somewhere inside, or under a bridge or so.
And even then, she sometimes would just ignore my order, and come join the fight. Guess she really loves me :P

Anyway, since I put her on Essential, she won't die on me anymore, but I mostly use StormCall to show-off.

I have all three words in storm call, so it's really helpful in big fights. Also never use storm call in a city like Whiterun because all of the guards will start attacking you. Also if you have a follower with you, the lightening will zap your follower also. :drag:

Just looking at the spell in the CK, it's not just a toggle that you can flip to make it only hit enemies. Looks like a script of some sort would have to be created to trick the game into only "seeing" enemies, or something of the sort.

On-topic: I use it when taking out bandit forts on characters without companions.

I use it when I'm angry..my Nord is kind of a Zeus class, very strong, but summons storms, so I use it quite often especially against dragons

The first time I used it was in Dawnstar. I was fighting a dragon and decided to try it out (it was the full shout). It took care of the dragon and most of the friendly NPCs who had the misfortune of being outside.

I used it once. I had two followers at the time (one was quest related) and I came across a group of necromancers/mages. I thought I was far enough ahead of my followers so I decided to try it out. Did not know how long it would last, or that it hit everything, but the enemies. At the end of the shout, the two followers are dead and all the necro-mages are still pelting me with spells.

Have not used it since.

I steer well clear of it, too - it's not even in my favourites. I tried it once, and it instantly killed my horse and Lydia...

As for clearing forts, which several of you mention, am I the only one to have realised the joys of the Flaming Familiar? It's cheap, quick, and (as far as I've seen up to now) it is easily the longest range spell in the game. You do have to be patient, but if you pick the right spot to attack from you can wipe out a whole fortress in complete safety. I scrabbled over the rocks from Bilegulch mine until I was above that big Forsworn camp (the one with the Bard's Leap), and after sliding quietly down to a spot a couple of hundred yards above their bow range, I annihilated the lot of them without receiving a scratch in return. It's the most underrated spell in the game.

Flaming Familiar?

CCNA, it killed your followers and didn't harm any enemies?

It might have hit them, some may have died, but there were a lot left. I reloaded as soon as I saw what happened. This was during the Beta Patch when I would get mega spawns of enemies so that I would fight two or three groups of them at once. I miss those days......

I tested it out and went "ew now all of my Shouts are on cooldown for 10 minutes" never to use it again.

No, it did not increase them, but for the first few game days after each patch, multiple spawns in one place were possible. It all has to do with script resets. One time there were a couple of necromancers, a vampire, a few bears, some wolves, and a dragon all in one place.

Flaming Familiar?

It's a unique conjuration spell you can get somewhere, at the end of some quest. I think that's unspecific enough ;-)

And yes, it is funny and can be valuable in certain situations.

I used it during the Battle for Windhelm, it did not hit a single Legion soldier, but wiped the floor with those Damn Stormcloacks.
I then proceded to execute that traitor, Ulfric and his lieutenant.

Northwatch Keep, the Thalmor did not appreciate the gift.

Well played. Thumbs up for that.

I have seen the spell and its useful I like it and wish we had more flaming, frozen, or electric summons that explode and more types of creatures just for roleplaying reasons.

Flaming Familiar?

Is it not well known? I've been relying on it for so long (until I got the Dremora Lord) that I assumed everyone has it - I hadn't realised it wasn't purchasable.

Hmm, I can't post links. Check the Wikis for a quest called "A Scroll For Anska", that's where I got it from.

Highly recommended. Basically it is a fiery version of the Conjure Familiar spectral hound, which charges the enemy with great enthusaiasm and explodes on contact. It only does moderate damage, but as I said it is very cheap and can be cast over a huge distance, easily twice that of Thunderbolt or Incinerate.

I paced it out. Why yes, I DO have a lot of spare time, thanks for asking.

I have the Flaming Familiar spell, but never use it. Any variations to it, or only a wolf?

It is just the wolf, yes - pity really, they could have made an effort to come up with something new.

I use it when assaulting a fort or figthing weaker dragons. With one word Marked for Death, the effect lasts longer than the cooldown, so following it with strom call can kill a prefixless dragon without any additional attacks. With Elder or Ancient dragons it is better to save the cooldowns for one word Become Ethereal to survive their breaths though.

I can't remember using it.

Quite honestly I forget I have the shouts, that's how uninspiring they are to me.

I'll have to make sure I have it and try it.
