Where Are The 5 "Massive" Cities?

Post » Sun Jun 03, 2012 5:15 am

The only massive "city" here is Blackreach. That really impressed me, and it was the best moment in the game.
sovngarde was pretty awesome too, especially the sky.

It was nice, yes, but to me Blackreach was the best thing.

Spoiler
I mean, crawling through very deep and abandoned Dwemer ruins, wondering why the Dwemer disappeared, and if they really did, only to end up in a MASSIVE alien-looking cavern which took so long to explore. I started to wonder whether it was as big as the overworld, it was really an amazing feeling.

Of course I know it.

Maybe I should edit that post with a /sarcasm or something. People keep taking it way too seriously.

Its just the nature of the written word, especially in the case of internet forums. Sarcasm rarely translates articulately when the context isn't firmly established, theres no audible tone to distinguish it from sincerity. In other words, sorry about that.

More like they embelished alot crap to get people like us to buy the frikkin game. Everyone let us thank Todd, Pete, and the Team for ruining the TES Series. I like the game for what it is, but there will never be another Daggerfall or Morrowind style TES game....... very sad indeed.......
Ruined? This game is great.

"Massive" is a relative term.

How can it get more dumbed down?

Just wait for The Elder Scrolls VI to find out. Trust me, they can and will find a way. (I forsee only two magic schools, The "Kaboom" school of magic, and the "No Kaboom" school of magic, followed by all weapon trees combined into a single "Melee Weapons" skill tree.)

Yup, I don't think there's any excuse for using an adjective most of us would disagree with. They should have stated medium-sized to large, but suggesting that they were massive is misleading, especially being used after Vivec and the Imperial City when describing towns smaller than both those locations (ingame, not in lore).

What did you expect a city the size of medevial paris
Remember that there is alimit on what a game can have and still be playable on todays average pc
sure they could have enlarged the cities but then alot of people would end up with a very laggy game at best each time they enter a city
Besides first time you see one of those cities they look impressive especially. Whiterun , winterhold and solitude ,

Yes, the cities should have been bigger. It is a búit disturbing to visit a local capital city which includes 3 houses, 1 smith and 1 trader.

In Oblivion there are settlements with the same size which you can find in the wilderniss. Instead in Skyrim there are only single cabins or a mine with miner sleeping in tents.

I wish they would concentrate less on detailed meshes and fluff and get the core of the game right. Large cities, lots of NPCs (even if they are graphically less intense) , good animations, complex gameplay, good AI. And so on. It seems like all the resources and time went into fluff...which makes good screenshots and promo videos but translates into a hollow gaming experience.

Hollow, exactly the word I have been looking for to describe certain parts and aspects of the game. I fear this will be yet another Bethesda game I will not finish. First and only one being FONV prior to Skyrim. Sad, sad to see...

So they lied?

Indeed. And they robbed you of 135 precious hours, within which - I'm sure - you were bored to death.

It might be nostalgia clouding my memory, or the fact that the games were so groundbreaking, but I remember Morrowind and Oblivion cities to be MUCH larger than Skyrim's "cities."

Anyone think Mods might fix this?

Yeah, the cities in Skyrim are the most awesome looking in the series, yet the smallest. I hope they strive for bigger cities in TES VI, which many people will hate for not being Morrowind and will probably get several GOTYs and break sales records. I can't wait to get to Elsweyr, really.

Lolling at all the people saying how good IC was. 4 copy pasted sections filled with citizens making such broken conversation it completely ruined immersion.

"I saw a mud crab the Other day."

"I dont like you"

I mean really, rose coloured glasses much?

Beth have lost the plot on city design. Even Assassins Creed can make more believable cities...

The Imperial City was huge but unpopulated.

Solitude is even smaller and still is unpopulated. Even Riften has more people living in it. Lol.

Lol thats true :celebration: Solitude is just so darn empty. Its like everyone became a guard or a soldier. Anyway in most of the cities, im quite sure there are more guards than civilians, just like in oblivion :glare:
Im more concerned with the sparse number of NPCs than the size of the cities; everywhere i go, i see guards. And the guards have the cheek to tell me they are "stretched thin due to the war".

I think the cities are quite big enough. Whiterun could be bigger though. Markath's pretty big to me.

"Massive" is a matter of opinion; it's not something they can lie about. If you don't consider the main cities in Skyrim "massive" that's terrific, nobody cares.

Has no one caught on to what modern gaming is now days? The way it works is GOOD GAME = PRETTY GRAPHICS WITH A LACK OF STORY AND FEATURES where as in the past it was GOOD GAME = GREAT STORY AND FEATURES WITH MEDIOCRE TO AVERAGE GRAPHICS. I pray that within the next couple years graphics get to the point where we can't make them any better so that developers will get back to making good stories and in depth gameplay with a massive jumble of features without obsessing over making graphics better. Battlefield 3's graphics give me hope that we might be getting closer to that reality. (mind you I said graphics not gameplay and storyline) That's the reality now days though so I wasn't suprised with how small the cities are or anything else with the game, if you set your expectations lower than the hype makes it out to be you won't be suprised. I enjoy skyrim for what it is even if I don't think it's quite the sequel everyone wanted. But they tried.

I am torn.

On one hand, I see the guy's point: if there are no big cities, there isn't a need for Bethesda to claim there are "massive" cities in the game. 'Cause, let's face it, who's really going to buy Skyrim just for its cities? And on the other hand, if Bethesda put it massive cities with a bunch of city folk walking around, doing their thing, the game probably wouldn't run very well. And then, people will be really pissed.

Agreed, I have never ever heard them say they where massive, and most of these so called "embellishments" are disinformation. I think they are all decent sized. I don't need to get lost every time i go to a city because it is unnecessarily large.

The size of the cities honestly doesn't bother me- I think they're just about perfect size. However, the claim of "massive" is at best, false advertising.

EDIT: I take back what I said... as someone pointed out, no one has submitted any link that Bethesda made any claim of the kind. If someone does, it's back on though. As I said, I LIKE the size of the cities, but the "massive" doesn't fit in any sense of the word.
