Which game is better?

Post » Fri Dec 09, 2011 1:32 pm

Some odd choices that bias the poll. BG should be BG2, DA2 should be DAO. It would be interesting to add Planescape because it might shake things up a little, though most voters probably haven't played it.

Yes.. only the choices bias the poll.
Certainly not it's location.

Better question is why is Dragon Age II on the list, but not it's vastly superior predecessor?

Why is red dead redemption on there, isn't it an action-adventure game or something.

So? You still play a role. It's a role playing game.

Well it's the OP's poll, he doesn't have to put all the "great" games on it. He put games on it he liked or at least wanted to get compared to. At least I think so. I don't know. Anyways Skyrim is probably my favorite off that list.

I guess that makes 90% of games RPGs.

Spoiler
Modern Warfare 3 is the best RPG, in my opinion.

Well then why isn't call of duty on there, or some Winnie the pooh game, or Mario kart?

It seems oddly placed among the other choices.

I agree that it's pretty oddly placed, but it's still a fantastic game...just not as good New Vegas.

Well, what this means is that for those people who have played Skyrim, they will definitely buy the next Fallout expansion (if the engine and quest bugs are fixed), then buy Balder's Gate 3, and Star Wars: the Old Republic (the sequel to Knights of the Old Republic).

Morrowind.

Yes.

I'd also have to add PSO and Jet Force Gemini for the n64.

What is so bad about Dragon Age 2? It seems they must have done something terribly wrong from first version to second version?

I think it varies depending on the person, but common themes are an almost total disconnection from Origins, the really, really excessive re-use of interior areas (seriously, if you think Oblivion's dungeons are samey, at least they are actually different areas: Bioware kept on reusing the same 4 or 5(?) and just moving the entrance and exit around), the very, very tedious three-wave attacks every single time, excessive use of silly animations such as dual-wielders doing forward rolls, abseiling foes--even indoors!--and so on. There was also the "10 year" story which simply cut out most of the middle years altogether; and then there was Anders having a complete personality transplant, moving as far away from his likeable Awakening persona as it was possible to get. The couple of cameos of other Origins characters were a bit too cameo and often didn't import properly so the wrong dialogue was triggered, too. I think perhaps the problem isn't necessarily the severity of the problems and niggles or the lack thereof but that there were just so many of them.

Yes, I think you nailed it in the head. One of the worse things about Oblivion was the Oblivion plane and dungeons. They all looked essentially alike. They became dull and a chore visiting different ones... lost their exploratory nature once you visited the first one and the later ones basically followed the same layout (even if you mixed up a little here and there). I think the dungeons were designed by one person and because of a lack of resources (human) or lack of time, re-using things became the lazy way. I have a feeling Dragon Age II may have the same thing with the dungeons, but we're talking super laziness or super lack of resources or time. I think they didn't spend much on Dragon Age II was because they probably didn't make enough money on Dragon Age Origins to justify spending money on Dragon Age II sequel, so they cut the budget, re-using old stuff to save money. And that may be because cartoony look is out. Realism is in. Dragon Age Origins didn't get my attention because it looks like WoW. A lot of cartoony landscape and people. But WoW has its own problems with multiple people doing the same quest in short periods (like 5 minutes) so it seems stupid seeing your antagonist re-vive to serve the next set of people after you were finished with him. Quests should be timed and rare, with people joining them beforehand or get picked on rare occurrences. Perhaps they can make it so that your quest is put on a mini-server (private) so that you don't see other people before you or after you doing that same quest. This is a MMO problem though.

How does Dragon Age: Origins look cartoony?

Ok, it may be because of my subjective opinion, but I downloaded a trailer on some origins of characters before it was released. Dwarves if I remember. It turned me off to the game.

Here, this kind of background and textures:
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/dragon-age-origins/news/6215995/dragon-age-origins-updated-hands-on-the-dwarf-commoners-humble-beginnings?sid=6215995&mode=previews

Or maybe this:
http://www.g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/post/700174/dragon-age-origins-profiles-dwarven-drunkard-oghren/

Perhaps the landscape and other people don't look that cartoony, but the first link looks like WoW, and the second link looks like a cartoon character. Does it look like Skyrim? The background and environment? Because if it is, it may probably be good, I don't know.

From what I've seen of WoW they look nothing alike and I have never considered Dragon Age: Origins to be cartoony. I don't that Oghren looks cartoony at all or that might be just because I know him. The environment obviously doesn't look as detailed as Skyrim, but it is beautiful in it's own way. Give it a chance and if you don't like it then you can go back to Skyrim.

It has been said to death on this thread(a lot of it by me), but the story, characters, setting, lore, dialogue and depth of Dragon Age: Origins is simply incredible and much better then any Bethesda game I've played. Bethesda makes a really good choice-filled sandbox to roleplay in, but they are a bit lacking in the story, dialogue and characters department.
