Which game have the greatest cities?

Post » Sun Jun 17, 2012 5:14 am

Morrowind has always stuck with me as No. 1 just because of the intricacies and atmosphere. It took me hours to completely explore Vivec City and the whole time it always felt exciting, you never knew what you would find hidden away. Skyrim comes in a close second for it all of it's beautiful cities and towns, the developers did an amazing job on creating them, my personal favorite is Solitude. As much as I played Oblivion it's cities an towns were rather lacking, though for some reason I do like Skingrad.

Leyawiin's my favorite city in Oblivion /i/by far/i/. Not only are the majority of it's citizens my twof favorite races, but it feels huge, it's surrounded by awesome, unique terrain, the castle is gigantic and has an awesome story behind it, and most of the npcs seemed really nice (To me at least.).

* Windhelm - really captured the soul of Skyrim
* Skingrad - practically lived in the city a few years back
* Vivec - the only city in Morrowind i ever got to explore

Architecture-Skyrim, Morrowind-atmosphere and oblivion for size.

This says it all.

The atmosphere in Skyrim is amazing! Just take a look around, take a trip to the Throat of the World.
Bethesda created also scary atmosphere, successfully, in Skyrim. Seriously.

I'd say Morrowind easily has better buildings.

The art for Morrowind buildings is just incredible.

For Skyrim i would like to pick Windhelm but it's too small imo. So i went with Whiterun because that city has a warm feeling. For Oblivion i would pick Imperial City obviously or maybe Skingrad it was cool. I never played morrowind but from what i saw from reading about it Vivec looks like an awesome city.

I'm gonna have to say Skingrad was my favorite place to go in Oblivion. If I had to pick a town in Skyrim, then it's Solitude. Even though I like Skingrad more.

The Imperial City is my favorite city I've been to in all of Tamriel. Although I've never been to any of Morrowind's cities, because I'm really bad at that game.

I liked Oblivions cities the best, more fleshed out than Skyrims. Been to long since I played Morrowind to remember the cities.

Morrowind had the best towns. They used regional/faction-based architectural styles, which gave you a real sense of the Great Houses' territories.

Never played Morrowind so can't speak for it, but I loved the cities in Oblivion.. my favorite being The Imperial City. I would wait until night for the NPCs to close up their shops and I'd follow them to where they hang out and hear them pvssyr (although not all conversation was that great, I just loved the feeling it gave me). I did like Bruma and Skingrad a bit too, but The Imperial City beat the others for me by a lot. The public music gave me a pretty good feeling as well.

Honestly, I really wish some aspects of Oblivion were in Skyrim.. no city in Skyrim has taken the place of The Imperial City and while I like the music, it doesn't help me in terms of hanging with NPCs probably because there's not that many to hang out with :shakehead:

My votes:
Skyrim Town: Riverwood. Just a beautiful, picturesque town. It's probably close to, if not, the most beautiful spot in Skyrim. I'd love to live in a place like that in this kind of setting.
Skyrim City: I am indifferent to all of them really, each has its own major detraction in my eyes. I narrowly gave it to Solitude, as it seems to have more going on and is the capital.
Oblivion Cty: Anvil. Loved the coastal city vibe.
Morrowind City: I'd have given it to Mournhold if I could, but I voted Balmora. My main character was a House Hlaalu noble so he spent a lot of time there, not to mention his estate was a short walk away.
Morrowind Town: Pelegiad gets my vote. Purely because of the Khajiit resident there.

This is dumb. I found chorrol to be my most visited city in oblivion, but only because of the Mages guild and it's conjuration spells.

I found telvani to be [censored] awesome in architecture but a pain to get around. Most of morrowind's cities were pains to be honest. Then again all of morrowind had [censored] awesome architecture which hasn't yet been beaten.

I found that in skyrim i spent more time in whiterun- But only because of it's central location and Two smiths.

If Falkreath was bigger i'd have voted for it. But Solitude gets the vote. And Riverwood.

In Oblivion, Skingrad or Cheydinhal.

Morrowind, just plain more awesome in every way. The architecture of that game was awesome. But Telvanni capital, awesome place.

If only we could get the size of Daggerfalls cities, those felt huge. And you could climb the buildings in them to, 'cause Daggerfall had a climb skill. Daggerfall had tons of skills, most I still dont know what they do.

I believe Morrowind had the most atmospheric/unique cities. A city made out of giant mudcrab shells? Giant mushroom cities?

To me Morrowind has the best cities and towns. I like the detail in them and they looked unique compared to the ones in Oblivion and Skyrim.

I actually think I like the Oblivion cities the best, especially Chorrol. Don't get me wrong, Morrowind and Skyrim have good cities as well, but there's something cozy and welcoming about walking in Chorrol or Cheydinhal during the night.

the cities and ideas that come out of these games is awesome. They are all different nothing to similar to the other all different styles, looks and architecture. I find it hard to pick favourites within skyrim because they are all so awesome but i think Solitude and Whiterun are great to look at from afar, they make exploring really awesome.

Skyrim: Solitude - Riverwood
Oblivion: Chorrol
Morrowind: Sadrith Mora - Tel Aruhn

And now, for good taste.
Daggerfall: Daggerfall
