Which game have the greatest cities?

Post » Sun Jun 17, 2012 2:03 am

I'm thinking about how many buildings there are and how many people lives there.
For example you have Balmora city from Morrowind where you have over 42 key points while Whiterun city from Skyrim have only 26 key points.
But which of the two cities has more people living there, hm. Maybe you will figure it out? :woot:

Remember we only compare Skyrim, Oblivion and Morrowind with each other.

Update: Added new poll for favorite town & city in Morrowind and favorite city in Oblivion.
Now if you voted before these polls were added above, you need to "delete my vote" and vote again. Sorry about this.

Think the imperial city was the biggest in all of the games but I could be wrong. Vivec was also big and never played the expansion with mournhold so I'm not sure about that one. The cities in skyrim are pathetically small compared to morrowind and oblivion. Wish they made them bigger.

It would be really cool if someone came with some details about how many people lives in the city they believe is the greatest city.

I'll take an interesting, creatively-designed town that is smaller over a larger town that is bland any day. I don't think the size of the town or the number of NPCs is the most important factor. Vivec and the Imperial City were larger than any city in Skyrim but I thought they were both dreadfully dull and hated having to go both places and avoided both places whenever I could. Whereas I thoroughly enjoy visiting most of the towns in Skyrim, small as they are.

Vivec was a massive city with a bunch of people living in it. Morrowind definitely had tops in terms of Cities.

However, Skingrad was really nice.

For pure size, Daggerfall. For unique looks, Skyrm and Morrowind are running a tie imho. We won't get into the problems with the Joystick of Tamriel.....

I personally preferred the cities. The size gave it a feel of being the center of the country, and they both had different and unique designs compared to the cities near them, the imperial city had a roman feel and vivec was a floating city. Alot of the cities in skyrim aren't even cities their villages with a big house in the center.

I would have to say the cities of Nehrim were mind blowing. I wish Bethesda looked at those before they did skyrim. Nehrim was made off of oblivions engine.

Morrowind: Vivec/Mournhold/Sadrith Mora/Ald'ruhn/Tel Aruhn/Tel Fyr

Oblivion: New Sheoth/Imperial City/Skingrad/Anvil/Chorral/Leyawiin

Skyrim: Markarth/Riften/Whiterun/Solitude

Morrowind still has the best memorable wierd places, Oblivions cities were mostly all the same, Skyrim isnt as bad as Oblivion but no where near Morrowind.

What is a small fishing village like Hla Oad in Morrowind equates to a hold capital like Winterhold or Dawnstar in Skyrim.
Daggerfall has the largest cities, Skyrim has the most detailed, but I think Morrowind's are the best.

I've only played Oblivion and Skyrim, so no mention of Morrowind from me.

The Imperial City is definitely the largest, but it didn't seem overly detailed to me. A bit copy-n-paste, y'know? For that reason, I prefe Solitude and Whiterun over the IC.

Cities like Chorrol and Skingrad seemed a bit larger than Skyrim's cities, but I think that - at least in Chorrol's case - the buildings were just more spread out than they are in Solitude.
Cities such as Dawnstar and Falkreath are smaller than their Cyrodiilic counterparts, but that makes sense - the heart of the Empire is likely to be much more heavily populated than the cold province in the North.

I like that Skyrim has smaller cities. It fits with the idea that Skyrim is fractured and more tribal (the Holds are all independent from each other).

I think there is around 82 people included guards in Solitude city.
And there is 1 inn, 5 shops, 3 temples, 8 houses (1 for sale), 10 other (Bards College, Blue Palace, Castle Duor, etc).
And I think there is around 180 people in The Imperial City from IV: Oblivion.

Hm, do you wish there were more people moving around and doing their business, or do you think that there are already enough people doing that in Solitude city?

I have now added a poll with two questions. What is your favorite city and town in Skyrim? :woot: If the poll will get enough votes, we move on to 'what is your favorite city and town in Oblivion'.
