Which RPG game should I get?

Post » Thu Dec 08, 2011 3:17 am

The verdict is in. I just bought Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines at d2d for $4 and some change. I'm getting the Witcher or the first Dragon Age Origin next. The hard part about the last 2 games is that I've mainly played shooters. It's going to be hard to go from an AK-47 assault rifle to a sword. I wonder how long the curve is to make the change? :)

VTMB has both guns and melee weapons, like Fallout 3.

Excellent choices I'd say. Especially Vampire...damn, what a fine game. The characters...I love every single one of them.
Sebastian LaCroix, VV, Mercurio , Therese and Jeanette, The chinese ...herbs...dealer...ahem. The dark quests and the often multiple ways
to solve them...A fantastic game, and not too bad for somebody with shooter-experience.

But I strongly recommend to search the I-net for the latest Fan-patches. They eradicate most bugs, bring stability and even add some mising content to the game. Worth it!

Witcher is also nice, both of them. Great "hero", also great dialogues/characters. And it has pretty black humour sometimes...

And Dragon Age? Well, still one of my favourites today. Say what you want, but since Baldurs Gate I cannot remember a similar game...
maybe Neverwinter nights 2, but thats it.

Make sure you install either the http://www.patches-scrolls.de/vampire_bloodlines.php or the http://www.sailmaker.co.uk/vtmb/ (just one, not both). Troika went out of business before VtMB was finished its software life cycle, and a lot of bugs were never fixed. These patches will also help with a lot of issues the vanilla game will have running on more modern systems.

The chinese ...herbs...dealer...ahem.

Mr. Ox... I love that character. Heh heh heh... *long, deep breath*

....Although they did make Garrus for her in ME2. Which I've honestly never understood. The whole "we want to romance Tali/Garrus!" thing just completely goes over my head.

It didn't appeal to me, either, but they made Garrus so damn loveable in ME2. I even went so far as to have my FemShep flirt with him, but they both got too weirded out before things could get too strange.

Good choices! You might find DA:O a better fit than The Witcher, which is more of an acquired taste. Even people like me who aren't so into traditional RPGs at least find Dragon Age entertaining - enough for me to stick with it for over 60 hours, anyway.

Vampire TMB does have a few sweet swords in it, though the pistol is my weapon of choice.

Sebastian LaCroix,

See, I wouldn't have minded a romance option for him - he was cute.

Know exactly what you mean. I was protective of the whole crew while playing a femshep. I was kind of a mother hen, with an explosive, violent and sadistic streak. Garrus though was great, popping that heat sink... couldn't turn him down.

Gardenia, hope you enjoy your purchases! Witcher is fantastic, sequel is even better.

I'd advise the Unofficial Patch (Wesp5's) over the True Patch. Not only does Wesp5's patch restore a lot of cut content (it doesn't add anything that wasn't supposed to be in the game), but the editors of the True Patch have launched such a scandalous and uncalled-for hate campaign against Wesp5 just to get attention to their "true patch" that they don't even deserve to be mentioned.

That wasn't Mr. Ox, Tseng I believe he was called. "I serve long time in Chinese Ar-, errr, Herbal Remedies Forces!"

I wasn't aware of that. I use the Unofficial Patch as well.

You're right, I was mistaken as to which character VoxDraconia was referring to.

Thanks Stormrider...now if only there was an active Vampire Masquerade Forum where I could ask questions about the game.....because I've already got a lot of them. :) Do you know of a forum?
