Which side to choose?

Post » Tue Feb 22, 2011 4:11 pm

So, since the game was patched a week or so ago, I've thought about starting a new game. The problem is, I don't want to redo my last three character playthroughs, so I'm short both a player idea and an alliance idea. Though in this post, I'm mostly looking for guidance on the alliance idea.

Legion is right out, as I don't endorse the 'burn everything and enslave what doesn't burn' approach.

Yes Man is questionably out, for reasons below.

House and NCR are my choices, but both have their own problems. While I generally support NCR, they want House dead, no exceptions. It seems ludicrous to kill one of the greatest minds of the pre-War era, arrogant as he may be.

Meanwhile, House wants me to wipe out the BoS, which I am also hesitant to do. As crazy as /they/ may be, they also have a vast wealth of knowledge, both pre- and post-war, so it seems crazy to destroy all of the information and technology their bunker contains without some kind of reason besides 'they may challenge my amazing robot army'.

Obviously, I can't continue the game on either case without doing these things, I'm just trying to figure out which is the more reasonable action.

Of course. I'm not looking for someone to give me the 'right' answer. I'm looking for someone to give me reasonable arguments, reasonings for why I should do this and that. Heck, I'd even take an argument on why the Legion would be good (though I doubt I'd get it, especially since I roll female characters.)

If you think the end justifies the means, side with House.

Or you can http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=37729.

As the signature suggests, I am a PS3 user, and I can't use mods. As much as I'd like to, I don't have the money to upgrade my PC to be a proper gaming platform, /and/ buy new games for my PS3 every month or so, /and/ afford to eat.

Well, there's a reasonable argument for both sides:

1.) For the NCR:
The NCR only wishes to protect and serve its people. House is an issue to this because h is an opposing faction, despite his knowledge. The reason they want House dead is because if he lives, there is always the chance that he may revolt against them. If you truly want to access House's information and kill him, do the enclave side quest that places the bug inside House's network.

2.) For House:
House only wishes to preserve and protect HIS New Vegas. He does not care about any other citizens n the Wasteland, but only HIS Vegas, therefore he only cares for himself. The argue FOR him would be that he wants to preserve Pre-War knowledge and the grandeur and style of the Old Vegas. He is a seemingly devious man, he has ends that are quite honest and good-willed, but his means are the problem.

So, in conclusion,
NCR: Good of the Wasteland
House: Pre-War knowledge/Good of New Vegas (Himself)

The Enclave sidequest? You mean the Followers one? I did that in one of my games, but the bug was disabled seconds after planting it, according to the Follower next to the Lucky 38.

Right, i meant the Followers. But she does say that they will get in, but it will take time. It's not a realistic solution, but no solution has Mr. House sharing his knowledge.

I wonder just how much could be extracted from House's database, though? How much of it was locked inside his brain, lost forever when he died?

I'm willing to hear arguments on how the Legion would benefit the Mojave Wasteland with a wake of burnt corpses and collared slaves, though I've always been rubbish at 'evil' playthroughs. Like I could never follow through with blowing up Megaton or helping the Enclave in Fallout 3.

They're not evil really.
Slightly less moral perhaps but not evil.
They just seem that way, go talk to them, do their quests, listen to every dialogue line and if you're open-minded enough you might see that they aren't Chaotic Evil.

I'm not sure. It has to be the procedures to keep him alive, which i imagine would be enough. The pricedure would state how to machines are keeping him alive, which would enable the Followers to make certain machines function in the way that House's do.

Well, multiple ways. The Legion would be beneficial to the Mojave in the same way that Hitler was beneficial to Germany. The culture was terrible, and they are both despicable, but the good things outway the bad.

Before the legion conquers the Mojave:
-> Robberies are a fact of life
-> People die everyday
-> Animals roam the Wasteland killing off travelers
-> The only way to make a consistent living is either Killing-For-Hire or Prostitution
-> Tribes can attack and enslave entire villages (Example: Goodsprings without your help would have all been killed by a rogue group. Imagine this type of thing happening all over the Wasteland)

After the Legion conquers the Mojave:
-> A unified government is in control
-> The only type of Slavers would be the Legion
-> Robbberies would be dealt with harshly, meaning little to no crime
-> People can make a semi-consistant living
-> The Mojave is united, meaning a single currency, so traders can actually profit
-> Laws make for at least some protection
-> The Mojave has less of a chance of falling under assault from a more deadly force than the Legion like say China or Russia

My referance to Hitler and Germany is a little less than this, but Hitler restored Germany's world supremacy and did many good things for Germany, but he is considered an animal because of his mass-killings. (which is sort of like the Legion)

Very Very true my friend, I have done them also and I didn't know what could happen but now I know after I can't play more of the game because of the [censored] people who made it had to totally cut you off at the end. :(

They are evil, in the sense of the world. A definition of Evil from Dictionary.com:
1.
morally wrong or bad; immoral; wicked: evil deeds; an evil life.
2.
harmful; injurious: evil laws.
3.
characterized or accompanied by misfortune or suffering; unfortunate; disastrous: to be fallen on evil days.
4.
due to actual or imputed bad conduct or character: an evil reputation.
5.
marked by anger, irritability, irascibility, etc.: He is known for his evil disposition.

1.) They are morally wrong, they kill people they don't like. They have Values, but not the right ones.
2.) This is what DEFINES the Legion. They do evil deeds like crucifying people and burning them alive.
3.) The yare characterized by suffering, they bring death and destruction everywhere they go.
4.) The yhave an evill reputation caused by the above actions.
5.) This is the on quality that they don't meet. They are not angry, in fact they are very level-headed and calm about things, but they carry out terrible action and as such are deemed as evil.

All my own opinions, feel free to argue yours. I just took a dictionary and compared it to the Legion.

Mr house.
For the BoS any doubt will vanish when you ask him about it. "You dont see them scouring ruins looking for autodocs, and prostetic limbs, in hospitals, no they only want things to put people in hospitals or prefarbley the grave". This is true, they only gather weapons looking for more weapons for power. Not a good faction at all.
House himself his vast pre war nowlage, founder, president and ceo of rob co, anything the ncr has has been salvaged, house dosent salvage, he builds. The thing the ncr wants (the strip) is only of any value because house revived it, and made it the way it was. House dislikes the ncr for a good reason. He dislikes them because they want to take vegas from him, this is true as they ask you to kill him. Not ask him to negotiate or anything, kill. Thats the way the ncr rolls, they see something they like they take it. They sent their army to the mojave before the legion got there, now why would they send thier army there I wonder... NCR are invaders, who are just fueled by greed. A weak and crumbling nation. Ironically they are like the Roman empire, expanding too fast, too far and are slowly falling apart, making everywhere worse of with no ncr to keep what little order it can.
Hosue is the best long term option, he is also best at keeping order, best at rebuilding, unlike ncr, their best troos use salvaged PA, slavaged riot gear. no progress made, just living of the past. House dreams of the future, plans, in 7 years he domesticated the tribals , rebuilt vegas, made a thriving economy, he also stopped vegas being a nuclear hell hole at the cost of his life.
Why not help hosue ? There isnt a good reason to join ncr imo, unless you follow the BS "for democracy" crap they spout, and they copy old world democracy, look what old world democracy did, and its aloready ruining them

Well, if you really want it :D
OK, here's my interpretation of the NCR before and after:
Before:
-> Lawless scavenngers and bandits roam, terrorizing peaceful settlements such as Goodsprings
-> There is literally NO LAW, and as such people live in a Dog-Eat-Dog world.
-> There is no unified currency, so traders are virtually useless as one person could take paper money and one could take bottle caps, and yet another could take teddy bears or hugs
-> There is no map or charted area, so people can wander aimlessly looking for one location, and be heading in the wrong direction the whole time
-> Animals ravage the area often, causing the death toll to rise more than it does by bandits and theives

After:
-> Besides granting all of the above, the NCR also provides unification of the land, which makes some people feel more secure
-> Possibly bring more technology into the Wasteland
-> An Army that regularly patrols the area, bringing some sort of law.

The NCR doensn't do much in my opininon, their form of government isn't fit for the Wasteland.

So basically not that good for after....
WHAT ABOUT MR HOUSE! :D
I would think he would do no thing to help the wasteland because he has like some robots (not much to guard the wasteland) and has to currency. :P

House does nothing for the Wasteland, before or after. As for Vegas, with all of the problems for Vegas out of the way (NCR, Legion, BoS), the Strip becomes the central hub of commerce for the entire US Post-War IMO, as it is the only thriving city left.

Thanks, i try :)

The only really "moral" path i can find would be to do Yes Man if you're worried about long term moral decisions (as you can only trust yourself to do the right thing), but if you're worried about in-game morals only, then i say House. Yes Man or House, but i say House would be the better choice as far as morals go.

But if you follow the Yes Man quest line, he becomes more self assertive. He programs the Securitrons. Skynet 2281 follows.
