Who else doesn't ride a horse and just walks everywhere?

Post » Wed May 30, 2012 2:29 pm

For those of you complaining they die quite easily from fall damage, stop climbing mountains down with it, seriously. I've only purchased one, and he's still alive (using him at all times, too).

Climbing is the only thing Horses are GOOD at. lol. it's nice to have 4WD with detroit lockers installed. other than that. I've listed why horses are a waste and easily replaceable.

I wish horses didn't rush and attack any enemy with 100 meters, then they wouldn't die so easily.

I disagree, actually. It really narrows down at how you play the game.

I wanted to use a horse but I didn't want to buy one. I was waiting for someone to gift me one but no one ever did. I think being a Legate deserves a war horse.

Yeah, I just walk, getting off and on the horse, making sure it doesn't die and restricting the freedom of movement make me stick to walking.

I walk everywhere. Never bought a horse, but did steal a few. Just didn't care for it.

I can tell you that after 218 hours in, In my opinion, Horses are a complete waste and need to be re-worked before I'll even touch another one. no joke.

Your play time doesn't affect my perception in any way, unfortunately.
I'm not saying they are flawless, they obviously need some work. All I'm saying is that they can be useful depending on how the player plays the game. Now, if you can't see that, I'm afraid there's nothing else to discuss.

Unless it's Prior Mabel's horse, I don't think you're being as discreet as you think you are.

Lol
Are you suggesting it couldn't possibly be Prior Mabels horse? That horse was amazing.

Don't really like horses in skyrim, the forced third person view is terrible.

I found horses to be a frustrating mess in ES games. It takes forever to get on and off of them and since Bethesda likes to have enemy NPCs every 5 feet that can keep pace with a horse in full sprint, it makes it a huge hassle to stop and wait for your character to get off and switch views. By then your horse is getting beat on and near death. They could have gotten around this annoyance by allowing combat on horse back. The only real benefit that I've found with horses is that they can climb to the peak of any mountain, just have to be careful with their horrible handling or they will walk right off a cliff.

I disabled fast travel in my game and suddenly found a real need for horses, but now I just settle for walking, why?

- Forced third person camera actually causes lag/load issues for me when riding fast. (Why no First Person at all?)
- Horse gallop is limited (Come on we already have to deal with the stupid lack of Stamina in Sprinting as it is, give us a break.)
- Followers can't seem to ride horses.
- Horses run into battle and GET IN THE WAY.
- When they run off, they really leg it and takes a good 5 minutes to find them.
- No backwards walking (My mother can teach this to horses, why couldn't you Beth?)

Conclusion: Why Bethesda...why?

Yeah it really needs a free roam camera when you're moving like when you're standing still.

my play time tells me that horses were thrown in haphazardly so people wouldn't gush about mounts not being available. I can see that, and others will as well once they get more dragons in the skies.

I've had to put horses down because they were stupid enough to attract attention to me when it wasn't warranted.

Exactly . I like horses and some improvements in patch would be great. It's a nice addition and gives everyone an another option while exploring the map.

I might hold onto Shadowmere when I get to that. But so far horses just don't seem worth it to me.

* They don't seem fast enough to warrant using them over running.
* It just seems silly riding when my companion remains on foot.
* Their actions in combat are just annoying (having to slowly dismount and the way they enter into combat etc.)
* Harvesting, combat and general exploring and travelling just feels easier and more natural without them.

Perhaps a decent horse mod (with saddlebags) will make them seem more worthwhile to me.

I go on foot myself, I originally bought the 1000g horse when I first came across it. Stopped using it because of it thinking it's a warrior that must fight at my side. Even if I dismounted quite a ways away from a spot with enemies it would come charging in fighting as soon as I entered combat rofl. Silly horse, fighting is for people. :P

I don't ride a horse because they tend to JUMP INTO FIGHTS. Really??? Come on. I don't need my horse trying to safe my life. The game is easy enough on Master. Just stay put and eat hay, Mr. Ed.

I walk. I love all the random events that go on. Much more rewarding than Oblivion, there really was no reason to walk in that game.

I walk because horses are still too clunky for me to enjoy. I guess RDR's horses have just put me to a standard I can't get down from.
