Who else doesn't ride a horse and just walks everywhere?

Post » Thu May 31, 2012 2:11 am

I did buy a horse early in the game.

The horse died when I jumped off a cliff. I just never went back to ride it again because I can't do much on the horse and I can't call it when I need it like in Red Dead Redemption.

Plus when I visit an unknown area it makes sense to just walk. Just wondering if others don't care for a horse.

(I know I can reach areas that I can't get to normally)

I don't like playing in 3rd person, so I walk everywhere.

I walk and fast travel. Haven't tried a horse yet, they sound like a hassle.

Be smart, save the money. horses are a waste in this game.

Make pots to fortify weight carry or use the steed stone.

/edit

also if you are an enchanter, make a set of clothes(not armor) that weigh very little for upping weight carry limit. using the shout once unlocked helps too if you are encumbered.
forget the name of shout. sorry bout that.

I walk. Partly because I have the Steed Stone and wear light armor with the Unhindered perk so I'm already pretty fast, but mostly because horses in this game are really stupid. One, wtf kind of galloping animation is that? Seriously, whoever came up with it must never have seen a horse IRL. Two, horses are completely psycho and ruin the game anyway. Last night I found an abandoned horse that I could ride without stealing, so I thought, what the heck, let's use this thing for a while. I ran into an Ice Wolf and a Wolf, and the horse attacked them as soon as I got off. I killed the Wolf, the horse chased the Ice Wolf down a trail for half a mile, killed the wolf, then went after a bear and two Horkers. It killed one of the Horkers, then the bear killed it, and then the bear came after me. WTF.

I managed to get a free horse in the game, but it was killed by the guards at Markaarth after I did something stupid. I'm over it though because honestly I found the mechanics of horse riding a bit clunky.

I can't pick ingredients while on horseback, and I don't like 3rd person much. So, I jog everywhere.

Bought a horse, then ditched it when it proved to be more of a hassle than it was worth. It's only benefit was countering being over-encumbered, but it was never there when I actually needed it. I can walk faster than it, don't have to dismount every time I run into a pack of wolves, and it was far too bloodthirsty for its own good. When it decided to take on an elder dragon single handily I just left it dead in the ditch with no regrets but the waste of money. Wish they were like RDR's horses.

Unless it's Prior Mabel's horse, I don't think you're being as discreet as you think you are.

As a no fast travel enthusiast, horses are pretty useful; especially when traveling long distances.
Fortunately for me, mine hasn't done anything stupid yet. When there's an enemy clearly more powerful than him, he backs away (if not, he joins the fight).

For those of you complaining they die quite easily from fall damage, stop climbing mountains down with it, seriously. I've only purchased one, and he's still alive (using him at all times, too).

The horse system in the game just doesn't work.
- It's frustrating when they die..which happens a lot
- It's annoying to pick herbs etc. you have to climb off pick, climb back on....waste of time

My horse survived several attacks and dragon fights (even being set on fire) to die from what I'm guessing was the equivalent of a 5 foot drop. Riding a horse was fun, but dying during the animation to mount a horse during an attempted getaway also left me sore about them. I decided I would steal a horse, but after I learned it won't become yours for good till you buy it, I decided it wouldn't be worth another 1,000 gs.

Waste of gold. I need all my gold for training and it is much more expensive than in Oblivion. I have a rule where I must get 5 trains before I can level (cause otherwise it's a waste).

Most of aren't orangutans. Can you reach the various herbs and mosses that grow on and near the ground from atop a horse?

I have found avandoned horses (the owner killed by bandits or beasts) three times. I ride them just to check it. You see the terrain better as your point of view is higher (3rd person, the horse eight and the fact that the view point in 1st person is a bit low) and go fast, but there ends all the advantages. I preffer walking.
