Well they must do something right with their games since people still play enough to complaint about things on the forums :)

It is much more like an FPS than an RPG.

Yeah when you play an archer.

Most people who complain about things in games on their respective forums, actually love the game. If they didn't care about the game, they wouldn't bother pointing out the problems and perceived shortcomings. They'd just uninstall it and move on to something else. Not counting the trolls, of course.

I've seen like 10 threads about players who didn't like kill cams...

And I've seen poll threads where 2/3 of the voters liked them. ::shrug::

Agreed. A shoulder evade animation and maybe an arrow catching animation is all you really need.
yes, and make the game next to unplayable.

This is my bigger issue with Morrowind, to a lesser extend Daggerfall. It was not that there was no animation, but the lack of control I had. Even if I just sneaked up to somebody my attack missed, my character could not hit a stationary target, AT ALL.
But the real griveance is that the whole "more character skill" thing is a lie. You still need to aim yourself, you still need to get close to the enemy yourself. You could be a master archer, if you cannot use your mouse well, you are not going to hit anything with a bow and arrow, same with a slow and heavy warrior, who can easily dodge enemy blows just by backtracking...

And targetable bodyparts would make this even worse. Not only you have to aim for a smaller target, even if you hit the enemy in the head you won't do anything if you cannot pass a random roll.

Mount & Blade is a wierd example, because that game is not even remotely an RPG...

This is why it would not be an improvement. My characters would have to have skills that allowed them to target body parts. If I have the ability to make my character target a body part, then combat is less RPG and more FPS based. If I want to play an FPS, I will load up one of those.

And Skyrim isn't much of a fps already?
It's dumbed down and removed many rpg elements found in previous games, regenerating health where the wait button is an instant healer, no tactical fighting besides sneak Crits, which are te same things over and over, and worst of all, the svck *** writing.

The biggest thing that makes them flavorless for me is the way that they detract from the action.

It seems like we get a combination of 3rd person kill cams, and 1st person kill cams despite whichever view you're in.

If the kill cams didn't take 2-3 seconds for the ani to load in, if they happened fluidly with the combat, if they lacked the horrendous slow motion effect, it would be a whole different story.

EDIT: Searched for a vid to elaborate but couldn't find one. Try to imagine a 1st person kill cam with a mace as you're bashing the guys face; The fact that you snap in to a sequenced 4 second animation breaks ALL the action. However, if the ani was reduced to 2 seconds, there was no "snap in" and the kill cam was more dynamic to your original location in combat, it would be wonderful. But I feel like everything gets lined up too perfectly. If I'm to the right of the guy, why not swing left in to the temple instead of taking the extra 2 seconds to line me up with his face.

It's quite a lot of an RPG.

It handles the stat-based combat perfectly IMO. Head hits do slightly more damage from the start, but you do more damage everywhere as your skills increase. It also has nifty varied protection for armour: so plate armour will protect you from slashing and piercing weapons but won't help so much against blunt trauma.

You're kidding, right? Have you even played the game...?

- It has a complex http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20111029215156/mountandblade/images/1/1c/Mount_And_Blade_Warband_Nord_Trained_Footman_Stats.jpg that makes combat about the character's abilities, moreso than player skill (as mentioned previously in this thread, if your character is bad at archery in M&B, it really doesn't matter how skillful you are as a player; you're going to struggle to hit anything that isn't right in front of you.)
- You can assume various roles, such as a raider, lone soidier, vassal to a faction, or faction leader.
- You can interact with NPCs and make dialogue choices that have a direct impact on how that NPC perceives you.

I consider it far more of an RPG than the last two Elder Scrolls games, that's for sure. It's the perfect example of how action-RPGs should be done.

Bethesda needs to hook up with Rockstar and use their AI engine. In GTA and RDR if you shoot someone in the leg they limp and react realistically. Shoot someone in the shoulder and they spin around realistically. Shoot them in the head and they die instantly. This generation of consoles has shown that it can be easily done. There will be absolutely no excuse for excluding this feature in the next game.

On a side note, I hate the excuse of "Well they've never had that feature before, so it's ok." No it's not ok. The technology is there....use it! You have got to advance along with technology.

Headshots with arrows should definitely be instant kills with all human/humanoids unless they have a strong helm on.
There's no attention to such detail or separation of hit zones on anyone in any TES...hopefully they will add that in future gamea

And what about a ice-spear to the torso? A war-hammer to the head? A fireball? By that logic most attacks should be one-hit kills.

Oh god. Your comment is great!

That would be amazing indeed! Maybe adjust it to react to swords instead of guns, but it would be quite the technology and gameplay.

Yes, as useless as the combat action itself, truly. But I've kinda gotten to like it, myself. Like a nice doggie-treat being tossed my way once in a while, for continuing to do the repetitive combat pet-tricks.

Actually, scratch that. Obsidian and Rockstar on Fallout 4. We need good stories than extra guns and stuff

Some of your ideas are all great............ and locational damage is the future. Period.

Now, the big question is "CAN IT BE MODDED"? or do we have to wait for the next release of TES?

I have to admit, when im running back trying to aim with my bow at someones head.. I feel like im kidding myself as if it will do more damage...

Its very annoying that a better archer gets no hit bonus for accurate shots... :(

I shoot a guy in the head with an arrow and all he says is:Who was that?! And a few seconds later:Oh, it must have been my imagination!

Well to be fair, that arrow through the head is going to impair his cognitive abilities. Maybe Bethesda programmed this in as a realistic brain trauma mechanic. Of course if so, then he should quickly keel over and bleed to death.

Hi Beyond-Postal. How are you doing?

As a moderator has commented, the adoption of locational damage will mark a sharp turn in TES, as it deviates from the RPG paradigm into the realm of, well, something else. I, for one, would applaud the move as I'm more of an adventurer than a true RPGer. Bottom line, in my opinion it will make the game better.

I really hate people that think that Skyrim's no RPG! (they removed less stuff than they added)

Anyway, is there any game, where you can one-shot the final boss with the worst weapon?

Oh and shooting a guy in the face does as much damage as shooting him in the big toe.

In the big toe you have the sesamoid bone, they are very imortent for great ballens, and will be very needed in battle, so yea, maybe you'll not lose as much vital health loss, but it's also a big health loss. so, it's all fine for me as long as it does dammage ;)

Thats a physics/animation engine, not AI.

Seriously! No blurring vision or injurable limbs, just some basic staggering. Oh and shooting a guy in the face does as much damage as shooting him in the big toe. Pathetic.

Talk about dumbed down. There's really little tactical way to fight an enemy besides your sneak hits or dancin around enemy attacks

Instead, you go all The Elder Scrolls: Modern Cavefare with akimbo swords and run and gu--slash.
Dumbed down? You do realize not even Oblivion and Morrowind had locational damage? Its a design choice.

In RPGs, health is an overall generalization of your health.

I don't know if you can add hit boxes in with mods, but what you could probably do is have each shot randomly have an already in-game effect:

Head shot: 05% Triggers 33% instant kill
Body shot: 35% No Bonus
Left Arm: 10% Triggers 10% chance disarm effect
Right Arm: 10:% Triggers 10% chance disarm effect
Left Leg: 20% Triggers 25% slow effect
Right: Leg: 20% Triggers 25% slow effect

So:

1.65% Chance instant kill headshot
2.0% Normal damage + Chance disarm effect
10% Normal damage + Slow effect (Hamstrung)
86.35% Normal Damage

Granted, in this way, visually an arrow could be sticking out of a face and it would register as a leg shot, but it should work well with melee.

TES has always been like this. Problem?

Goldeneye (1997) had locational damage.
Skyrim (2011) doesn't

Skyrim is lagging behind about 14 years on this one.
