My bottom line is that, if http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c5_8Ff73Prc&t=00m38s the result of a .50 caliber round between the eyes would have been exactly the same.

So you're telling me that a Veteran Ranger wouldn't have the shooting skills necessary to hit a target in the neck? And not only is Power Armor invincible, but allows the user to close the gap between sniping range and himself in .2 seconds? And how do you know that Ranger Veterans aren't trained better? Only 1/10 of the recruits to the Ranger program make it, and even fewer get Veteran status. And I'm pretty sure Paladins are not trained from birth. BOS members start out as apprentices, and become either Paladins, Knights, or Scribes. They aren't birthed as Paladins.

Power Armor does not make someone untouchable, and the BOS is not some super faction, with super elite invincible Paladins.

No, I said it would be a hard shot, but not impossible, and with the question of the speed of a Paladin, was referring to an earlier post about an ambush, which I assumed he meant an ambush position, not a sniping position a mile away, as ambushes tend to be, i don't know, an ambush?

I never said it makes them untouchable, merely superior to any man 1 on 1, and in case you were wondering, I was going on the line of the Paladin not using his array of high tech weapons such as Gauss Rifles.

My bottom line is if that Fiend had been a Paladin he would have been returning fire with deadly accuracy and not exposing his head like a chem-addled idiot. :P

To quote the FO3 Brotherhood, "You're facing superior weaponry and superior training. Submit!"
(And this time the line actually works, because they aren't yelling it at Enclave soldiers :P )

A Ranger certainly could beat a Paladin, through luck, or if the Paladin was having a particularly bad day, but nine times out of ten it's not going to be the Ranger walking away from that fight.

No way Ranger Vets are better trained; Paladins live in an environment that raises them for war literally from childhood. They are a warrior caste, and their sole purpose is to fight. Nothing else. They are raised for this their entire lives. If you're a Ranger, you enlist in the NCR military at maybe 17 or 18, so a Paladin's already got years of training and conditioning on you. You go through crappy basic recruit training, spend some time as a grunt, and then finally get appointed to the Rangers. Meanwhile, the Paladin continues to receive the best possible training this whole time.

It's the same reason (cliche, I know, but it's the best anology) that the Spartans were the best Greek fighters. They trained for it their whole lives, from birth, to the exclusion of all else. Same goes for Paladins.

Ranger Vets may have more experience than the new Paladins that have been cooped up in the Hidden Valley complex for years, but better training? Not a chance.

Where the hell are you guys getting this Paladins are trained from birth [censored]?

"After many years of service and experience, the best Knights are promoted to Paladins"

A Brotherhood Paladin goes through a similar ranking system as a Ranger Vet

Paladin= Initiate-> Apprentice->Knight->Paladin
Ranger Vet= Recruit->Grunt->Ranger->Ranger Vet

Okay, even still, from a closer ambush position, I'm very certain a Ranger Vet could easily one shot a Paladin through the neck. It would even be easier for the Ranger Vet because the closer range would mean an easier snipe. And if the Vet misses? Well he wouldn't have been a real vet anyway.

A Ranger Vet could very easily ambush and kill a Paladin.

I'd have said that the Paladin would have shot that Vet in-between the eyes when he turned their night vision.

Look at my first post, that would be their equip to base the fight. But to truly test this, They would need to be spawn with one weapon at a time and see who wins at each out come. Each have 3 weapons, and the unarmed skills. One spawn with each weapon against the other ( Rangers CK against Paladins PF, etc.) In game, the Ranger has superior health, but the paladin has superior DT, so based on their durablilty, their both even.
---------
The Rangers Brush gun has higher accuracy and dmg than the Paladins tri-beam laser, but the tri-beam laser has more shots before reload- Paladin.
The Rangers combat knife has a higher dps than the Paladins power fist, but the power fist has 3x the damage output of the combat knife- Paladin.
The Rangers Anti-mat rifle has hhigher dps again but lower dmg, and the Paladins guass rifle has slightly higher dmg, so that would go on who got the first shot off.- Veteran Ranger.
The Rangers pre war riot armor grants the Ranger full mobility while giving good protection against most attacks, but the Paladins power armor gives excellent protection against all but the most devastating attacks at the expense of mobility- Paladin.
---------
The Vet Rangers weapons have overall higher dps, but the Paladins have higher damage. Speed will be a major factor in the outcome.

Veteran:
100 Guns
100 Sneak
100 Unarmed

Paladin:
69 Energy Weapons
67 Guns

It's safe to assume that a Ranger Veteran is going to be better with any given gun than a Paladin would be with any given energy weapon. Not to mention that in a realistic encounter, a Ranger would simply have the drop on a Paladin.

No. Power Armor does not, in any way, hinder the mobility of the wearer.

Not in lore they wouldnt because the bullets would get stopped by the power armor.

In combat yah the NCR vets win. The NCR vets in lore are pretty bad ass to.

Power Armor isn't supposed to absorb everything, even in lore. A powerful caliber fired from a powerful weapon (brush gun or anti-materiel) would pierce it, especially if they are armor piercing rounds.

Then why do some Power Armors hinder Agility?

Power Armor makes you a tank, not a Maserati.

Of course not. It actually makes you super fast and have the ability to dodge bullets.

Where are you getting that? Both FO1 and FONV clearly indicate that they are separate castes, and a caste is not a rank.

Also, you are aware that Power Armor is powered, right? It enhances the physical capabilities of the user, because it is powered. So you run faster, etc.

Game stats are not an applicable point of contention here, as they are used artificially to create levels of difficulty for the player. If we go by game stats then NCR Rangers are better able to resist weapons fire than power-armored characters, which is clearly absurd.

I also don't see why we are assuming a Ranger automatically gets the drop on a Paladin. Please explain?

A person wearing power armor has their overall view and mobility hindered, making it hard to manipulate small objects and weapons with their arms and hands.

Power Armor makes you a tank, not a Mazarati.

For the lot of you, I would like to direct you to the original games, there was no AGI penalty, and a member of the BoS tells you that Power Armor is no hindrance to its user, it is, quite to the contrary, an extension of the users own capability. Power Armor DOES NOT hinder the movement or mobility of the user AT ALL, jesus, we are told completely non-nonchalantly by a BoS Paladin himself.

Because gamesas had a "bright Idea?" It was never the case in the original games.

Because they, both stats wise and lore wise, are characterized as shrewd tacticians and stealth specialists. Paladins on the other hand are walking around in heavy, metal, armor.

Lore wise Paladins man for man should be walking mini-tanks of doom. The veterans are supposed to be the best of the NCR so experience wouldn't be the deciding factor its equipment. Plain and simple in lore Power Armor is supposed to make your impenetrable to practically anything short of tank-armor piercing rounds (.50 AP rounds).

In reality though NCR Veteran Rangers completely rofl-stomp Paladins due to a combination of in game mechanics.
1. Ranger Combat armor having an absurdly high DT for something that doesn't even have armor for the legs
2. Power Armor having an absurdly LOW DT for something that is supposed to be a "walking tank"
3. NCR Rangers leveling with the character
4. NCR Rangers having a 30% damage resistance perk that is also overpowered
5. NCR Rangers have overall better weaponry (AMR, Brush Guns, Ranger Sequoia) than BOS Paladins (Gauss Rifle, Tri-beam laser).

Oh wait my mistake, I was looking at the Capital Wasteland Ranks, not the Western Brotherhood. I still doubt that Paladin training is still as vastly superior to Ranger Vet training. Yeah I'm aware Power Armor is powered, doesn't make it invincible though.

As for the explanation, I had stated that if a Ranger could ambush a Paladin, he would clearly win. It's not based on anything.

EDIT: You know what, screw this. I forgot I hate these threads.

Jesus Christo, you really haven't been paying attention at all, have you? Power Armor DOES NOT, for the third and hopefully final time, IN ANY WAY HINDER ANY OF THE USERS MOVEMENT OR MOBILITY, IT DOES QUITE THE OPPOSITE, IN FACT.

The bos guy should win a 1v1 every single time, but for some reason a vet ranger is the hardest thing that ever walked or crawled in fo nv.

So lore- Paladin
FO NV- Vet Ranger

See, I said this originally, a Paladin would win 1v1, head to head. But I did say that in certain situations, a Ranger Vet would win. And I'm willing to bet Vets are better snipers.

But that isn't good enough for some people. A Paladin clearly wins no matter what in every single situation. :banghead:

We can't go on game-based stats, because we're addressing the question of who wins in the lore. NCR rangers clearly win if you use game stats, but just as clearly those stats are not commensurate with the lore.

@Sir-Stabs-Alot-
I acknowledge that it is perfectly possible for a Ranger to beat a Paladin; if the NCR couldn't kill Paladins, they'd never have beaten the BoS.
I just believe that the Paladin will win the vast majority of the time, barring flukes, lucky shots, and so forth. They've got better equipment and at least as much training and experience.
