Whos the Deadliest Warrior?

Post » Mon Jun 27, 2011 8:51 am

Who would win in a one on one match?
-------------------
The NCR Veteran Ranger has-

Brush Gun for close to mid range
Combat knife for close combat
Anti material Rifle for long range
And pre-war riot combat armor
------------------
The Paladin

Tri-beam laser rifle for close to mid range
Power fist to close combat
Guass rifle for long range
and T-51b Power Armor
------------------

Personally I'm going with Paladin, due to superior equip, but likely their training is around the same. Both have pre war military training passed down to them.

Paladin in lore.
In gameplay though, you'd have to spawn 3 rangers and 3 paladins and let them fight it out.

In lore, BoS. In game, NCR. Considering Lore>Gameplay, I think that something needs to be done about that.

I don't know, I'd imagine BOS Paladin, but the DT of Power Armor isn't actually that much higher than Ranger Combat Armor.

Yah but in lore the BOS paladin will win ALWAYS. Though the Vets are pretty damn powerful to.

I'm going to have to disagree. The NCR Veterans are legendary, whereas the Brotherhood Paladins are not. Nobody boasts about how how Brotherhood Paladins spit fire, or how they though noone could beat them man to man. And there armor is nearly on the same level as the Veteran Ranger Combat Armor. I'd have to say that the extremely elite Veteran Rangers, lore wise, are liable to at least go toe to toe with the cloistered, young, Brotherhood Paladins.

Well, if they are right next to each other, yes. Veterans would have sharpshooting experience and capable weaponry and would win in a ranged fight pretty easily.

Not in lore they wouldnt because the bullets would get stopped by the power armor.

In combat yah the NCR vets win. The NCR vets in lore are pretty bad ass to.

You gotta think thou, while the Paladin has power armor hes slow, and the Ranger is more mobile. I'm still going with the Paladin, but the Veteran Rangers are former Desert Rangers, which have pre war combat training passed down through the generations. So the Vet Ranger and Paladin would be equal in their combat training, so the equipment would have to win the battle.

I'm working on it, I am trying to get it all worked out and tested, then, once i figure out how to release mods, I'll release a mod to make the game more lore accurate, on a wide scale.

Gameplay reflects story, and the Brotherhood T51-b has a Damage Threshold of just 25. Anti-materiel Rifles, Brush Guns, and Ranger Sequoias do 110, 75, and 62 damage per shot respectively. The bullets would definitely pierce the armor.

Paladin by a long shot in lore (that Ranger Combat Armor doesn't even offer leg protection, it's no match for T-51b, and EW >>>>> Guns in lore) but definitely NCR Vet Rangers in game. They're hilariously overpowered in vanilla. Going to mod my game to jack up Paladins so they're actually the ferocious killers they're supposed to be.

Vets would not "win in a ranged fight easily". BoS paladins have better (and better-maintained) equipment, as well as better training. You put an experienced Ranger up against an equally experienced Paladin, at any range, and the Paladin will be the one walking away from that fight.

In lore, power armor protects against all small arms fire. So in order to be lore correct, the Rangers need to be packing something more sophisticated than a revolver or lever action rifle.

Paladins are usually trained from a very young age onward , Rangers are not.

No, your wrong, because the gameplay doesn't reflect the lore, sorry to say, because Power Armor is not one half of a tenth as powerful as it was in the original games, in the lore of the game history.

Yup, this. Ranger Combat Armor being DT 20 is a joke, it offers less protection than Combat Armor but has 5 more DT. It's just to make the Rangers seem like badasses.

In lore, PA is highly resistant to anything less than high-caliber sniper weaponry (has to be eye shots), EW, and heavy weaponry.

Like Mako said, if you really want to go with gameplay, go by Power Armor in the originals. You would take literally 0 damage from most attacks, even stuff like miniguns (unless you got critted and died, which happens).

I am willing to bet that Ranger Vets are better trained than Paladins, and Anti-Material Rifles would certainly pierce weak points in Power Armor. But energy weapons would most certainly demolish the armor that Ranger Vets wear, and outside of the AMR, I don't think anything the Vets use would penetrate.

Depends on situation and equipment really. I think a Ranger could easily ambush and kill a Paladin, but head to head a Paladin would win.

What? T-51b power armor had 12 Damage Threshold against guns in the original Fallout. For comparison, the Sniper Rifle did 34 damage at max (the Veteran Rangers are tagged at max guns skill in New Vegas) in Fallout. So even in Fallout, a Sniper Rifle (markedly weaker than an Anti-Materiel Rifle) could damage an armored Paladin.

I don't think an AMR would be able to kill a Paladin in one shot or any small amount of shots, lest the eye or neck, which would be extremely hard for anyone except the player, and the moment they shot, the Paladin (who is much better trained that a Vet Ranger, trained from birth with high tech military equipment) would be upon them instantly, and gladly rip off the barrel of the gun and beat them to death with it.

Except DT wasn't what mattered, what mattered was AC, and a combination of DT and DR. So, yes the Sniper Rifle could do damage, but it usually would do no damage or maybe 3 or 4.

I agree. In lore, a Ranger would need at least an AMR to have a chance against a Paladin.

A veteran ranger shoots a fiend right between the eyes from what appears to be at least 100 yards away during the opening of New Vegas. And I don't believe, even with Power Armor, any Paladin would be capable of closing a football field "instantly." I guarantee an Armor Piercing, Anti-Materiel round could, at the very least, break through the eyepiece of power armor. And any bullet that's penetrating the helmet is going straight into the head of the paladin.

Paladin has PA, and a Gauss Rifle or Tri-Beam Laser Rifle (hell, even a Laser RCW would work). Rangers would hurt him, but the Paladin comes out on top.

So you're telling me that a Veteran Ranger wouldn't have the shooting skills necessary to hit a target in the neck? And not only is Power Armor invincible, but allows the user to close the gap between sniping range and himself in .2 seconds? And how do you know that Ranger Veterans aren't trained better? Only 1/10 of the recruits to the Ranger program make it, and even fewer get Veteran status. And I'm pretty sure Paladins are not trained from birth. BOS members start out as apprentices, and become either Paladins, Knights, or Scribes. They aren't birthed as Paladins.

Power Armor does not make someone untouchable, and the BOS is not some super faction, with super elite invincible Paladins.

No way Ranger Vets are better trained; Paladins live in an environment that raises them for war literally from childhood. They are a warrior caste, and their sole purpose is to fight. Nothing else. They are raised for this their entire lives. If you're a Ranger, you enlist in the NCR military at maybe 17 or 18, so a Paladin's already got years of training and conditioning on you. You go through crappy basic recruit training, spend some time as a grunt, and then finally get appointed to the Rangers. Meanwhile, the Paladin continues to receive the best possible training this whole time.

It's the same reason (cliche, I know, but it's the best anology) that the Spartans were the best Greek fighters. They trained for it their whole lives, from birth, to the exclusion of all else. Same goes for Paladins.

Ranger Vets may have more experience than the new Paladins that have been cooped up in the Hidden Valley complex for years, but better training? Not a chance.

RE: Shooting in the neck or eye- I don't doubt that a Ranger could accomplish that on a largely stationary target with ease. I do doubt that they're going to be able to ace a Paladin through the eyes with no issues while that Paladin is moving with the full speed of Power Armor and returning fire. A Paladin can laugh off a hit to the extremities, while Vet Ranger armor offers literally no protection there.
