- We don't have a large influx of new people often. When I joined I joined at a time not too long before Skyrim was announced so most of the people here besides me were people who had been here for a long time and generally set a good example (not saying I needed one, but they set the tone for the forums, and no one wishes to break the peace here). So when people come here they are faced with a wall of maturity, rather than a wall of raging trolls.
- And The Bethesda fan community is also just helpful in general, not only on these forums. Just consider all of the great mods that are out there. While there is personal gain in making a good mod for yourself there is nothing that forces modders to share them and not only that but troubleshoot them for other people who may have issues getting them to work. And I like to think the mindset of this community is a give and receive in return one. We all like making good use of what others offer us and in return we feel compelled to give something else in return, be it a piece of advice, a mod of your own, or simply a friendly chat.
I think that's the crux of it: to run a really good forum, you need to "set the tone" by having the right sort of people on the boards to start with - by which I mean polite, friendly, helpful and welcoming. That's what I found when I first joined here, and I was drawn to the modding boards and impressed by the behaviour of the people on there. I was a bit of an ... um ...
inexperienced member and attracted a couple of exasperated remarks with my stupid questions, but other members encouraged me by sending me PMs with "don't listen to them, here's how you do it" and helpful advice and tips. It made me want to stick around.
Seeing that type of behaviour made me want to help other users that way, so I found myself defending nublets against grouchy veterans, and that attracted the attention of the moderators until I too was bundled into the big black van. That is the spirit that drives the moderators here, though - there's nothing worse than the idea of a new member being scared off the boards by insults from other members, and simply we won't stand for it. That's why we try very hard to make sure everyone plays nice, having zero tolerance for even the mildest of insults, because it just makes the boards a nicer place to be.
Of course at the moment... no one's here. :ninja:
I mean.. five thirteen(*) people on CD?
Is this some all time low?
(Since there's only us here, I'm hijacking this thread to mention it)
(*)stop moving around when I'm counting :stare:
:whisper: Everyone's off playing Skyrim ...
