Why are people on these forums so helpful?

Post » Fri Dec 09, 2011 3:45 am

I've never had an issue on these forums. I ask a question people are cool try to understand what I'm asking don't flip out or and start insulting people. I'm sure people are fans of this game, but you don't get the same fanboyism and everything in between. You can be critical and constructive. Am I wrong here? Does the elder scrolls attract a more mature audience or something? I just have run into so much crap on other forums from other developers where people seem to be so rude. What's funny, and actually not funny at all, is these other forum mods end up banning me when their forums are just littered with trolls who report you for anything they don't agree with. I won't name names, but it's just nice that I can actually give my opinions, ask questions without the bs.

People being helpful and trying to be understanding on a forum? Who would have thunk it?

Anyways thanks for all the help. After years of forum abuse lol, I never had any issue saying thank you.

that's what I think too. We all have a game we can agree on or something. But I wish it was like that all the time though where people can disagree and be mature about it. I never liked forum bans. I think they are hypocrital and the person being banned is usually the person being attacked and misunderstood. I would know lol.

Generally speaking, this board is full of very helpful people, though with the influx of new people thanks to Skyrim, I'd have to agree that you go lucky, and possibly were helped by a seasoned member.

It is. I've played fallout, oblivion. I've said some critical things. I've never had any issue on these forums. People are generally just laid back, intelligent and helpful. Other forums you say anything good you are a really devoted fan. You say anything bad it's like you insulted their mother or are a troll. It's like my god.

I have the same problems with other forums as well. Not here. Also didn't have a problem with Toywiz forums until it shut down. It is a marvelous forum full of good people.

I have seen a lot of rude and insulting people (a lot of new members) in the last couple of days thanks to Skyrim's release, but generally the forums here are very mannered and respectful. It gets a little crazy around game releases, but the forum is a good one. The new members that don't behave will get booted or move on soon, but the rest of us can have polite conversations where even if we disagree with one another, we agree that is okay.

Honestly, he brings up an excellent point. Even more so considering these types of games ( TES, Fallout, etc. ) has so many things within that could be fought over by the fans... One of the biggest part of it is probably the fact that the playerbase is older, so therefor more mature, but that doesn't necessarily apply. ( Come on, we all know a few advlts who act like kids :P ) I hadn't quite noticed this before, but yeah, the people here seem pretty friendly, and for the most part, intelligent people. Huh, that's interesting actually... even in the community discussion, belligerents seem to be null D=

I also think it's because there's no Multiplayer. I've noticed that forums of MP games tend to be a bit ruder. Mostly because of the sense of competition, while here, everyone's together, exploring the vast world of Skyrim.

Look at the COD forums, or the SC2 forums, Battlefield, ... for example.

I've been surprised by how mature the Skyrim General forum has been so far. When Morrowind and Oblivion came out their forums were overflowing with tantrums, threats, infantile demands and general, all-around crybaby whining and pouting. There is not nearly as much of that kind of behavior this time around.

I think gingerbill may be right: people are mainly, generally, pretty pleased with Skyrim. Skyrim appears to be getting a much more positive reception than Morrowind or Oblivion got when they were released. And it shows in this forum, I think.

Elder Scrolls have had great games, especially like Morrowwind. Also the real fans that started with it are older. Usually in their 30's to low 40's. Some younger who started later with it and never played the orginal set of games. Before BEth.. became the company they are.

We want the game and stroies to continue, grow, evolve, and sometimes you praise efforts, and sometimes you nit pick becuase you want better add ons and the next game to improve and not get away from its roots.

Elder scrolls it what got me into RPGs which I used to hate.

Its a good forum OP. For some reason it tends to attract mature, reasonable people(for the most part).

Months...not days! These last few months it's been pretty hectic around here. Heck, I've been flamed for just saying I have a simple preference for gaming style!

Op, you're just lucky, there's plenty of hatin' around here. Console/PC wars, elitism, door slamming, yep we got it all! :D That being said, if you follow the rules and be respectful, you'll generally attract people who are also respectful.

I think the style of game contributes. In my experience (and this is a very broad generalisation) RPG games tend to have considerably less idiots than say, CoD MW, following them. Obviously you'll always get the idiots and the keyboard warriors, but far less in this sort of community.

I had a brief stint on CoD online (MW1+2) before just getting completely fed up with all the children flaming each other. I preferred the internet back in the day when it was just nerds and lonely people, these days every idiot has an anonymous alias to hide behind.

But yeah this is a good community and well moderated, it's refreshing to see.

I think you are right. Multiplayer games tend to attract a lot of younger people and it's like I'm in the minority. A lot of people who just are obllivious as well and thinks their you know doesn't stink. Overly aggressive childish moderators. I play sports games as well. Some mmorpgs and the people I run into boggle my mind. I'm mid thirties, just a pretty laid back computer nerd who has seen it all and been around since the dawn of computers and I feel like i'm in the minority these days which has a lot to do with it as well. I think people have changed as well. It's a different generation.

Treat the rude ones like 2 yr olds having a tantrum. If you ignore them they eventually tire themselves out and fall asleep. :snoring:
