Why is Burned Man Joshua Graham emo?

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 7:59 am

Okay, let's be honest while we are on Honest Hearts... We all held down the Christain Emo Band and their discs and shook them violently in the water screaming "FORGIVE THIS THING, LORD! IT KNOWS NOT WHAT IT HAS CREATED!"

"Honest Hearts produce Honest Actions."

Book of Michael, Ch. III v. 2-4

2And lo; the lord sayeth unto mineself to smiteth this crap and burneth all that love and coveth her wretchedness 3with pitch and tar and throw it down thine canyon of far reach and so sayeth the lord, so it shall be done unto what is crap. 4 Mine lord and myself screamed with righteous fury as the attrocity rose again out of water and was baptised twice with bullets and fire, but the lord sayeth unto me to not lie and show my progression in the killing the ravaged wretch, and soeth I said unto the lord "I have shooteth, burneth, plasmaeth, lasereth, and drownedeth it lord!" and he said "JUST DIE DAMN IT!"

I think a lot of the problem here is that people expected one version of Graham and got another. That's how it goes with legends though.

Personally, I am a fan of Graham and his story. Do I like the religious bent? No. Do I like all the "god talk"? No. But I like his story, and I like how he presents.

Opinion: he's now more epic than ever.

I enjoyed speaking to him and having him as a companion. In my opinion, he is like any devout Catholic. If the legion or NCR deeply beleived in something, they would sound the same too

My definition of emo is: A depressed sad [censored] who should just put a shotgun up his/her mouth and pull the trigger.
Kids that has spiky black hair with lots of piercings and crap aren't emo to me.
People who are really emotional aren't emo to me.
Boone is.
A sad pathetic [censored].
:D

Aww Gabriel, look, I know you're upset because you were pinning all your hopes on JG being the ultimate legion badass.
I DID tell you though not to put to much emphasis on your precious Van Buren 'lore'..
You have noone to blame for your broken dreams but yourself mate, trying to redefine words to have a pointless stab at someone like Boone (Who eats the legion for breakfast over and over again) is just kinda sad really..

Grahame isn't the monster of a man who is dogmatically loyal to the legion, get over it ;)

I can blame Obsidian, Sawyer especially if it was he who rewrote Graham.

I'm a huge Legion fan, but Graham is still amazing.

Ahh I see, and you expect what? You think he'll redesign graham so he can better enhance your precious legion?
Wouldn't surprise me if we don't see the legion now for a very very long time...

I'm pretty sure half the people b'awwing are doing it because he's religious. Oh no, god forbid a character follows religion, out of the, what, 200+ MINIMAL people in the series we see who wouldnt flinch at killing for kicks and giggles? Graham WAS evil, but after his 'baptism by fire' it served as an eye openening reemergence of his spirituality. To call Graham 'good' is not completely accurate. It's more he follows in his own way, but he will resort to violence to upholds what he deems good. But I believe Graham is better for Zion than Daniels evacuation.

I completely agree with this.

Additionally, lol at the amount of people saying they would have preferred a chaotically no purpose evil character. It's those same people who hated the Enclave in FO3 for that "same" reason. Quotation marks because it wasn't as true than as it would've been for Van Buren...

I had you in mind as an exception.
What I'm laughing at are the same people who want chaotically evil Graham and then bash FO3 for having the Enclave be the evil faction in that as CL is in NV...

I do agree with the Colonel, though. Many simply don't like him because he's religious.
Waaahhhh....that's not what I believe!!....Waaaahhhh...

I thought Joshua Graham was a huge let down. He could of been the fallout series most badass character instead he was some cave dwelling bible basher.

He is the Fallout series' most badass character... after Frank Horrigan anyway. Just because Graham is no longer evil doesn't change what he did in the past, nor is he a pushover now. Heck, he's the only Fallout character who can pistol whip, now that's badass.

A number of posts have been removed. Please be careful to not discuss real world religion as such discussion is not allowed on this forum. You may discuss in game religion, just be careful not to mention real world religions while doing so. Sort of tricky but as you can see by the number of posts left. Many are doing so quite well.

Thanks

There is something to be said for the lost art of an effective pistol whip lol.

That's kind of hard when real life religon is also in-game now.

Well as I said, it is difficult. There are many things in the games that can't be discussed here without a certain caution since the game is rated M and this forum is rated 13+. This is no different.

Just don't compare to certain denominations. (catholic, protestant, Buddhist, Mormon,....) and tread lightly so the thread can stay open.

It's not impossible as we have done it before.

I just found his character to be boring, rather cliché actually:

1. Character is a good guy.
2. He then does something to help people and in doing it becomes far more darker and evil and deluded into thinking he was right in what he was doing.
3. An incident happens that makes the character remember who he used to be and realize what he has changed into.
4. And now he battles with his inner demons as to what is right and what is wrong, trying to be a good person yet the hunger of evil still growls inside of him.

Seen it before.
Nothing unique really.
Him being completely chaotic evil on the other than in a "Just want to watch the world burn" kinda way is still cliché but at least far more interesting depending on just how evil he really is.
There are actually far too few "evil" characters in New Vegas, sure, it's good when there's that gray morality, but that's what makes a chaotic evil character stand out so much more.

As to him being an emo, nah, Boone takes the cake, Graham lives in lolipop land compared to that depressed sack of [censored].

Thats what I was thinking. But ahwell.

I'll never understand Summer why this forum is rated PG-13 by a studio that makes Mature games.
