Why destroying the Dark Brotherhood

Post » Tue Jun 05, 2012 4:37 pm

Thanks for replying all.

Then, besides the horse and the quests, what's the gain from joining the DB?
Do you get a set of gear like the Nocturnal?

Shrouded Armor, shrouded robes, jester's clothing, upgraded versions of both the armor and jester gear, a really nice dagger, lots of gold, a summonable follower, a cute girl in Markarth becomes marryable... and you get to
Spoiler
assassinate the Emperor himself and take his clothes as a souvenir.

I tried once to join them , i was ok i am in now lets get the good times roll , till i had to go and kill a whole host of what in my opinion are innocent people ,
that beggar in ivarstead, the mad miller near windhelm , the miner ex wife in dawnstar the orc bard etc , and i really felt bad i had to go and kill them
so from then on with every character i just http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/504640305219657286/0AFC9CBE234A32BF84EBA3EF00C8783B710D9FD9/ especially him

Is there a beneficial reason, role playing aside, for not joining the Dark Brotherhood?

Is there a beneficial reason, role playing aside, to playing Skyrim ?

Also, when you "refuse all of the gains and rewards you'll potentially obtain", you have no idea what those might be. And whatever they are, they certainly are NOT needed to create a very powerful character who can easily finish any (other) quest you might choose to do. Think about it - if you CAN destroy the DB, do you logically have much to gain from working with them?

They sent about six after me -all of whom attacked me after crossing the same bridge near Riften. Someone needs to teach them how to plan ambushes.

"Okay, our victim is Archmage of Winterhold, Master of the Thieves' guild, holds the rank of Thane in six holds, and has slain about thirty dragons. How do you plan to kill her?"
"I'll run up and hit her with my sword!"
"NEXT!"

I finally joined them just to show them how to do a job right.

Weird, I never had an assassin sent after me, except once on a character that got erased (and re-made later).
About the Brotherhood, I joined them with two characters, destroyed them with... none for now.

That I always chalked up to the follower's innate stupidity.
"Hey, they're carrying away my boss! It doesn't look like they're fighting though, so it must be okay. I'll just follow like I always do."

That or Astrid told them where you'd be but not what you looked like.
"OK, which one is it?"
"Dunno, better bring them both."
I wonder if they'd bring your dog too if you had one.

They do. Hey, you never know, the dog may be the real murderer.

You don't have to. It's just a random encounter, like the highwayman or the wandering soldiers.

You must be a very sound sleeper.

Seriously though, I always figured they must have drugged you with something. Maybe some kind of paralysis poison?

"Hey, they're carrying away my boss! It doesn't look like they're fighting though, so it must be okay. I'll just follow like I always do."
Yeah, I figured we were drugged. :P

So they bring your follower? What about just the standard housecarl if he/she isn't currently following you?

Just the active one. That shack would be pretty crowded if they nabbed all my housecarls.

I do wonder what happens if I start the quest while using the "Multiple Followers" mod. I'll have to try it and see what happens. Probably crash the game. :lmao:

Which shout? You do get Marked for Death, Thieve's Guild is the one you have to join if you want all the shouts, right?

The final word of power Suffer, for Marked For Death.

I was attacked by the DB 9 times before I finally joined them.

I meant the one in the house in which you'd be sleeping during the kidnapping. I slept in inns on both characters because I didn't want to take the chance that they might kill a housecarl. :P

You can still get that one if destroy the DB. Disarm is quest locked by the TG questline.

Lydia must be the worst protector ever. She sits there, eating my bread while watching me sleep, but when some assassins break into my home and kidnap me, she does nothing!

I destroyed them because The Dark Brotherhood under Astrid wasn't following the 5 tenants. Cicero (who believes strongly in the tenants as shown in his journal) and Babette are still alive, so it's possible that they're working together somewhere to reform The DB. It's a stretch, sure... but anything's better than letting those fools who think they can kill without the Night Mother's blessing continue to defile The DB.

I definitely don't think we've seen the last of them. :o

A- the only way to get the last upgrade on one of the shouts

Not true. Destroying them will also get you access to that Word.
