Why destroying the Dark Brotherhood

Post » Wed Jun 06, 2012 2:39 am

Why destroy the DB?

Most of us choose to join them, I assume.
Or correct me if I'm wrong.

So... Why choose otherwise? Why refuse the Dark Brotherhood and therefore also refuse all of the gains and rewards you'll potentially obtain.

Is there a beneficial reason, role playing aside, for not joining the Dark Brotherhood?

Because Bethesda wanted to make sure you would join then by making it:

A- the only way to get the last upgrade on one of the shouts
B- lose alot of money (i mean ffs, they get money i get it, by it's by far the most productive guild you can join)
C- Made the characters in there the most interesting to know the past off

I mean seriously, they are associated with MURDER, anyone that plays the nice guy wouldn't want to be associated with then, and yet, Bethesda makes sure that neglecting their invite is one of the most unrewarding things ever.

I am going to destroy them because my character is good (I was just going to leave them alone, but now I know that I can destroy them, I am going to do so)

Which shout? You do get Marked for Death, Thieve's Guild is the one you have to join if you want all the shouts, right?

How do you figure? The word wall in the sanctuary still works if you kill everyone.

Actually the Dark Brotherhood is the only guild your not required to join inorder to get every word for every shout. The Companions have one, the college has two and the guild has one.(the companions also have two but there is a exploit around Carin)

I'm still on the fence with this one. I want to destroy them because my character is inherently good, but it would be a little hypocritical since he's done some evil things for the daedric artifacts. Also, that horse is so cool and feasibly worth using, do to its resilience.

arg i dunno

Oh, also I don't think you can get one or more achievements if you destroy them

There is always next character, here's a question in the civil war to you plan to fight for the Empire or Ulfric. And its not hypocritical the Dark Brotherhood are as nasty as they come.

I sided with the empire. Oh and another reason my character is geared more towards destroying them is because he's already had DB assassins set upon him, several times. He doesn't take too kindly to that

My charscter destroyed them simply because they tried to kill her four times. Yea, it was for someone else who was paying them, but if she ever finds out who that was... well they're going to be sent to the nearest Hall of the Dead.

On my first character, I joined them. I loved every bit of it. On my second character as a mage, I destroyed them early on. I was quite disapointed. But, after awhile, I decided to roleplay and move my character to "the dark side", went back to the sanctuary, got their armor, and assassinated people as a one man army.

Do you have to be on the Imperial side to destroy the DB? Because i never had the oppurtinity to destroy the DB with any of my characters.

I've had one of their assassins try to stab me every damn time I make a new character. Not just in Skyrim, either. I swear they're determined to kill me.

Well, I destroyed them on my first character because he's good-ish, but more because of the punk-ass way they attempted to recruit me. Instead of talking to me like advlts they kidnap me and coerce me into killing one, two, or three of their targets? There's a slight chance I would've let them live had they approached me differently.

Let's not forget that destroying the dark brotherhood means you can take their bodies home...

You can use them for stuff, if you trap their souls beforehand.

They always did have the dumbest recruitment policy. I mean really, sneak up on some random murderer while they're sleeping and wake them up? Or kidnap them and THEN wake them up? And they expect not to get a dagger to the face for this?

It really is a shame you're Thalmor. I might have liked you because of this comment.

^^ This. (Okay, it takes me more than "a few slashes" to off Astrid.... but anyway....) I've always wondered how they DO that.... especially "gimped" as they are in Skyrim....

This is one of the reasons why Lucian Luchance is liked so much from the Oblivion DB. He approaches you personally after you killed.

The whole transition from Oblivion to Skyrim in terms of the Dark Brotherhood is something I always found kinda funny. Granted a lot happens in 200 years, but in Oblivion it was like "KILL A PERSON, ANY PERSON!" and you're in. In Skyrim there's always a message on the loading screen saying the DB is "very selective in its recruiting."

Also, Spector Lucian is my beeeeeeest follower. <3

You must be a very sound sleeper.

Seriously though, I always figured they must have drugged you with something. Maybe some kind of paralysis poison?

Not only that but if you have one they bring your follower too!
That I always chalked up to the follower's innate stupidity.
"Hey, they're carrying away my boss! It doesn't look like they're fighting though, so it must be okay. I'll just follow like I always do."
