Why Fallout 3 will always be better than Fallout NV

Post » Tue May 10, 2011 3:46 pm

What Im trying to say is that Fallout 3 just certain aspects that Fallout NV couldnt convey like Fallout 3. Like the radio is much better in Fallout 3 than Fallout NV. Walking through the Capital Wasteland is like walking through a museum, as one can imagine how pre-war life was like. The wasteland was much more desolate and ruined, Dont even get me started with the dialogue, the dialogue in Fallout NV is just plain, dull and boring. The dialogue options in Fallout 3 were funny, well written and interesting.

Dear good sir,
Good for you! You have found a game you love and want to hold onto, it gives you that sort of, "special" feeling! Congratulations! Now, go play it again, and leave us, the forum, alone. We honestly could care less what game hit the aspects for you! I know, I know, this is a forum meant for discussion. But this, this is just someone repeating themselves in different words everytime.
We already have a thread for this, go post this, there.

You know, there's this thing called opinion. Everybody doesn't have to agree with yours. I thought NVs dialogue was leagues ahead of F3s, personally.

Actually, so this doesn't seem one sided; the same goes for everyone else trying to convince him that he's wrong.

 What?!!!

They dont even put a emotion in their dialoges, and is the same voice actor for nearly every person on existence in DC

So yes, it wasn't as the Capital Wasteland? Newsflash, NV actually takes part on the WEST coast and shows a more correct view on how humanity should continue on its track 200 years after the war, and not being stuck in an endless limbo of desolate ruins and the not-doing-anything-to-rebuild syndrome. :sadvaultboy:

Dont even get me started with the dialogue, the dialogue in Fallout NV is just plain, dull and boring. The dialogue options in Fallout 3 were funny, well written and interesting.

If 'funny' you mean the INT response to Three-Dog or the final speech sparring with Eden, then I will have to agree. Those options were absurd, cheesy and so badly written it was funny as hell.

Yes you nailed it on the head. Have a coo... no, have a :foodndrink:

Back when you grew up a Vault,

How's that a good thing? The vault tutorial in FO3 was pretty bad.

Back when you didn't need hight agility to run? remotely fast.

Oh noes, you need to have a high agility to actually move quickly?! NOES, MY GAMING EXPERIENCE IS RUINED!

What's next, not being able to carry 200 pounds when your strength is set to 1?

Back when every single Vault had something interesting and sinister inside, not some Raiders or convicts occupying it

...Every Vault does have something interesting and sinister inside. Even the ones with the raiders and convicts. You did actually look around, right? Take the Vault with the powder gangers. In that one Vault-Tec did everything they could to make the residents crazy and paranoid without using drugs. Which you'd have seen if you paid attention.

Back when their where no stupid factions and you were given more freedom in your actions.

Wait. Fallout 3 had nothing but stupid factions, and there was absolutely no freedom to your actions. Did we play the same Fallout 3?

Back when the places you explored just didn't have Sunset Sasparilla Star Bottle Caps.

Ratslayer. Mercy. Dogtag fist recipie. Thump-thump. Gobi campaign rifle. 12.7mm pistol and 12.7mm SMG. Off the top of my head.

Back when the radio was actually good, the music on itwasn`t some crappy country music and the DJ had some energy

Three Dog was a joke.

Back when loading screens only took 20-30 seconds

...I don't know what game you're playing, but even in my modded to the hilt game, loading screens take less than ten seconds.

Oh, and the additional ammo types are great. Great. Each one is pretty clear what they do, and they add so much depth to the game's otherwise anemic combat system that any "lol, ammo is better simple" argument is instafail.

It's true. These are reasons why Fallout 3 will always be better than NV... for you. I mean really, just go to the Fallout 3 section or play Fallout 3, I really don't get why you even bothered making a thread like this.

Agree, we ( or at least i) never bother the FO3 fans in their section of the forums, so i dont see why you need to bother us with a thread like this, leave us alone, play fo3, have fun

 Seriously, i hope they've hired some new writers for Skyrim.

Though i have to say Raiders had better voice acting than Fiends. "Do you like the sight of your own blood?" with a tone of "Could you pass the potatoes, dear?" just doesn't seem too convincing to me.

I've never really paid attention to them, generic baddies, but do Fiends, Vipers etc. still share the same voice actor like in F3(that would be Jericho)?

I just read your post saying: "It's like vaccination in Maine, and vaccination in Arizona - I love them both, just in different ways." and was going to ask what the [censored] are you talking about. I just love reading this small text late when being tired.

The ammo types are incredibly simple: If you don't know what it does, don't use it. If you want to know what it does so you can use it, find out.

Admittedly, I miss Three Dog. His energy was entertaining for me. But Mr. New Vegas fits with the scene and he makes me laugh too, especially with the way he says "when Helios One unexpectedly started firing lasers." I giggle, every time.

People need to realise that Fallout 3 and New Vegas are different games. If Obsidian had set New Vegas in the DC ruins, with vaults that contained hideous mutant experiments and insane survivors, and the DJ was an ADD dude called Three Dog, and had a storyline that had somthing to do with clean water, I'd have taken a copy of the game, walked all the way to whoever was in charge, and...well, you know where I'm going with this.
Some great things about New Vegas:
Perks actually enhance your combat ability, rather than just 5 points to this, 5 to that, 10 to this...
Reloading Benches- especially hand-load ammo.
Crafting in general.
The Brush Gun.
Armor piercing .308 rounds for my sniper rifle.
Range and quality of voice acting. I love when you first meet Yes Man. "Hey! Hi there!"
A choice in the actions you take. Finished Caesar's Lgion playthrough yesterday, much fun!
Game is actually difficult on Very Hard now. I die a lot in New Vegas.
We didn't just get handed a copy of Fallout 3 with a few tweaks.

FO3 was like Oblivion, great for people who have no idea what a plot is and just want to dink around in a copy/pasted world with skills that have no substance to them.... well not exactly copy/pasted but so much material that has no value to it that it bleeds together after a while.

Ah Fallout 3.....

Back when you didn't have to wait for an extra day for vendors to refill their stock and the ammo system was simple.

So wait you are discouraging advancements in the game? I thought the ammo system was great, it adds more depth to what is shallow pew pew combat
Back when you grew up a Vault,

Honestly what is wrong with you guys? You can't give your character a back story? Fallout 3 force fed you a back story, which is stupid to do in a RPG.
Back when you didn't need hight agility to run? remotely fast.

Agility doesn't impact your run speed, the type of armour you are wearing does.
Back when every single Vault had something interesting and sinister inside, not some Raiders or convicts occupying it

Wow your ignorance just never ends does it? Each vault had a back story, if you would look...
Back when their where no stupid factions and you were given more freedom in your actions.

Is this game telling you who to side with? Whereas in Fallout 3 you had to side with the BoS?
Back when The Capital Wasteland felt truly desolate and post Apolycatic

Again, what is it with you Fo3 fans? Why is it that DC fails to recover after the war whereas california does just fine? Why is it that in all the vaults in Fallout 3 with their miracle GECKs there is not any cities? In California the GECKs were crap, yet there is the NCR, San Francisco, the Hub, Adytum, Vault City, Navarro, and all Fallout 3 can boast is Rivet City and the Citidel.
[qoute]
Back when the places you explored just didn't have Sunset Sasparilla Star Bottle Caps.
[/qoute]
I'm not even going to comment on this one.
Back when the radio was actually good, the music on itwasn`t some crappy country music and the DJ had some energy
Back when loading screens only took 20-30 seconds
Back when I had fun playing Fallout.

Wow... I love how shallow this list is. Crappy country music? Loading screens? Just wow.

I like the world and environment that has been created in NV. My problem with NV is reconciling the endings with any number of possible motivations for the Courier. I think it was a mistake to make the Courier's background a mystery.

The Lone Wanderer had motivation from any point of few, to act or not act, and he was young enough and isolated enough to truly be a blank slate from which you could believably see talents emerging and honing themselves. The Courier is a courier.... I guess getting shot in the head unlocks the potential to be the greatest baddest ever, including the smartest. Also, what is the Courier's motivation to continue once he's confronted Benny and delivered the chip? People need strong motivation to keep putting their lives in danger. If you played through to all the endings, the rewards are all pretty unrewarding. I think only House offers a believable motivation and reward once he actually tells you everything. Unfortunately, one of the endings for the Kings implies that he's not as rational as he presents himself to be, however. The free Vegas ending is practically trolling by the devs, especially considering what Yes Man's last remarks foreshadow. So you really only get to be a hero by helping certain people in certain ways, but with the major factions you're just a manipulated dupe who also manages to be incredibly powerful and/or intelligent.

Also, that big battle everyone keeps talking about...yeah.

Is at least more decent that be forced to help the goody two shoes of the BOS

But the BOS was never meant to be Knight in Shining Armour

and the Enclave isnt pure evil

and what is the real motivation of the Lone Wanderer?, neither the Courier have one

The game developers decided to not give the Courier a backstory to give players an oppurtunity to give him a backstory, just like how RPGs used to be. The Courier can be whoever you want, an ex Enclave officer, a psychotic murderer, an immigrant from California, or even a test tube baby.

Possibly the only thing that I like about Fallout 3 more than New Vegas is the ability to start and complete *every* quest in a single playthrough. It was nice knowing that you did absolutely everything possible without having to take notes on your three previous playthroughs.

And I don't know what your problem is with the music. It's well-picked for the region and the lyrical content applies to the game; and the announcer is ok, Three-dog was only better because you got to meet him.

They're the same gameplay, just different stories and NV as the successor obviously has a few new toys and tweaks, however the price is high as the game is riddled with terrible bugs for some people.

Neither game is hard in any way shape or form, if hard = time consuming, well damn they're hard.

The fun of the game isn't in a challenge but in exploration and FO3 did a better job of rewarding you for it, but NV's fewer rewards feel more rewarding, it's an almost eerily equal trade off that could only be pulled off by 2 different teams of people that equally love the series, but simply for different aspects/reasons.

Yeah this type of thread is getting old though, I'm tired of people hating on FO3 on the NV boards.
