Why I Hate This DLC

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 8:45 am

If I see one more " Fallout NV didn't feel post apocolyptic", I'm going to remove my eyes with an effin spoon. :ahhh:

Lol, that's generallyu the way I feel when I hear people saying how much better Fallout 1 and 2 were and listening to them go on like they own the franchise and we are inferior beings for liking the new games.
But yeah, sorry if it bothers you, I love New vegas, I just prefer the slighlty more depressign and more destroyed ruins of DC.

I really dislike the idea of humanity getting back on it's feet in any way even though by 200 years we would be practically back to normal...

Actually I'm not only a Fallout newb but also an RPG newb (FO3). I likely will never play the old Fallout games as dealing with top view turn based combat would make me wish for a nuclear winter. :D

Promise?

Fallout: NV feels more third world then PA.

I'll say it every chance I get, because it's that annoying.

Did I, like, sleep late one day and miss an apocalypse?

I'm curious what it is that people are using for reference when they say something isn't post-apocalyptic enough. Unless it's a reference to a different game (like, oh, let's just say, for example: Fallout 1), which seems just a tiny little bit ridiculous to me.

Not a single one of us knows what a real post-apocalyptic world would be like, let alone judge whether or not a video game is post-apocalyptic enough

What, exactly, does a post-apocalyptic world look like? Does it have the husks of ancient vehicles littered around? NV has those. Does it have rubble? NV has that, plenty of it. Does it have makeshift buildings and Mad Max rejects wearing crazy mismatched armor? Cha-ching!

Quite frankly, a post-apocalyptic world can look many ways. The Capitol Wasteland looks like the bombs dropped yesterday, even though it's been 200 years. The Mojave and the Sierra Madre look like they've been alternatingly neglected for a long time, except where there's been new construction (which is understandable after 2 centuries).

I'm not very far into Dead Money and I've already been crippled, poisoned and had my head blown off more times than I can count.....and I'm loving every minute of it! I love the sense of urgency and suspense and I actually feel that it compliments NV quite well. Why would I want to play an expansion that's exactly like the main game? I like the switch in gameplay, which I consider to be quite minor. Trying to partition that virus for the BOS in the main game....now THAT'S annoying.

Are you really THAT curious? It's pretty obvious what people mean when they say it isn't post-apocalyptic enough. Hollywood! The image of a post-apocalyptic world that we've seen so many times in movies, it's not remotely accurate of what it would be like but, it's the whole package of ruined buildings not just a couple of wooden huts and a token ruined block near new vegas, desperate living conditions not bright lights and remarkabley well carpeted hotels (for being 200 year old), depressed, desperate living conditions not some well kitted-out NCR controlling what seems to be a thriving population. I can get away with the BoS because there doesn't seem to be many of them. Nuclear bombs is also a good start, there's a distinct lack of them apart from that one near the devils throat.
It just doesn't feel like the remains of a country that was at war like Fallout 3 did with the Chinese bunkers, factories full of warheads and the feel.
I despise wild west stuff so I was never going to like NV as much anyway but I think that ruined the feel just as must as the absence of destruction.

It's just not what people who are into post-apocalyptic stuff really want. I enjoyed it but, if they had of spewed out another main quest on the old DC map I would have been happier. Anywhere that looks like it's actually been in a war would have done.

So maybe we should start writing 'it doesn't feel Hollywood-post-apocalyptic enough'

I thought the speakers were very annoying. I basically loved this entire DLC but the shielded speakers drove me nuts. Mainly annoying that the sound could go through sections of hallway and there were a few times where I died from a different radio than the one I just turned off. It was meticulous and didn't add much to the experience.

I thought this DLC was so bad and so did EVERY person I've spoken to who played it. All I wanted to do was get back to the wasteland as fast as I could. ONE kind of enemy, that's it!? They were also to lazy to design a new weapon so they took the grenade launcher and put a scope on it? Same with the armor which they took from the Powder gangers and modified a bit. Oh yea, the Police Pistol!!! Are u serious? We have all of these bad ass, awesome looking and strong revolvers already and now we get this tiny little crap pistol as one of the new DLC weapons!? Come on, when a DLC svcks (Operation Ancorage) we should atleast be able to walk away from it with some good loot. Not this one. Automatic Rifle was only good thing that came out of it and I don't even use it.

Too bad. :(

All I wanted to do was get back to the wasteland as fast as I could. ONE kind of enemy, that's it!?

Actually, 4, there were different kinds of Ghosts and then we have the holograms. ;)

They were also to lazy to design a new weapon so they took the grenade launcher and put a scope on it?

Erm... What?

Same with the armor which they took from the Powder gangers and modified a bit.

Whaaaat? O_o

Oh yea, the Police Pistol!!! Are u serious? We have all of these bad ass, awesome looking and strong revolvers already and now we get this tiny little crap pistol as one of the new DLC weapons!?

Erm... Yes?
At least you "got" a secondary weapon.
EW got the Holorifle but we didn't get any bonus crap pistol. :(

Come on, when a DLC svcks (Operation Ancorage) we should atleast be able to walk away from it with some good loot. Not this one. Automatic Rifle was only good thing that came out of it and I don't even use it.

Assassin's Suit - roleplaying reasons and a nice bonus for players that have not specced in sneak skill.
Elijah's Robe, Vera's Dress, Dean's Tuxedo - roleplaying reasons.
Sierra Madre Armor - Awesome looking armor.
Holorifle - This beast makes Gauss Rifle seem like a toy.
BAR - Apparently really good.
(If done right) Demolition Charge - For explosive characters this weapon is truly a blessing as one get 1100 chips every day and can buy more of these from the vendor.
Bear Trap Fist - ....My... God.... Overpowered like crazy! :ahhh:
Additional skill "books" - +skill points.
The magical vending machine - ....This vending machine + weapon repair kit code breaks the game. I just did a weapon rush at Black Mountain and repaired all the weapons with the weapon repair kits... It's.... It's just... I have sooooooooo much money from selling those things... And I never need to bother with the Jury Rigging perk either...

I thought the loot was good.

Thank you for making a list of what I was talking about. Assassin suit makes you male character into a female one (sure that doesnt bother you) which i didn't like. I already said the Bar was the only good weapon, police pistol is garbage compared to all the other great revolvers, don't care about the weapon repair kits cause i have the jurryriggin perk. Elijah's robe is garbage, are you gonna really want to fight with that thing on. So stop naming every little thing in the DLC. I was talking about cool [censored], not this stuff. I think the best way to sum up New Vegas is like this...The Fallout series was passed from the COOL guys back to a bunch of "smart dorks" who added "smart stuff" to the game (Ammo system, perks, factions, true iron sights) but completely ruined the badass look and theme to the game.
oh yea, you should take a look at the game before talkin trash. Yes the HOLORIFLE is actually the GRENADE LAUNCHER with a scope on it. They didn't even take the time to make a new design erm...[censored].

So ammo packs attached to chest makes you a women? Fail.

You apparantly have only played Failout 3, because you don't seem to know that Fallout is a ROLEPLAYING game, not Call of Duty.

No problem.

It does?
Even better then! Now I can be a transvestite!
I already said the Bar was the only good weapon.

Holorifle, Bear-Trap Fist and Explosive Charge are also really great weapons, try 'em out with other characters.
Police pistol is garbage compared to all the other great revolvers.

Yup.
Don't care about the weapon repair kits cause i have the jurryriggin perk.

But the weapon repair kits are better than it though, you get 1100 chips every other/third day and can buy tons of weapon repair kits for it.
Meaning you don't have to bother with the perk and can choose another perk instead. ;)
Elijah's robe is garbage, are you gonna really want to fight with that thing on.

My Guns character, Jimmy T, only had Grimy Pre-War Suit through the entire game, so yes.
As I said, for roleplaying purpose it's great.
So stop naming every little thing in the DLC. I was talking about cool [censored], not this stuff.

I thought it was pretty cool. :cryvaultboy:

Doesn't bother me really, I hardly find the Grenade Launcher anyway so I barely remember it's design. :P

Once high school ends, the "smart" people pretty much own the "cool" people 9 out of 10 times.

I agree with your post, except for this.

Fallout 3 felt PA, and it doesn't have anything to do with Hollywood. It has everything to do with living in ruins, with little hope for anything better, and trying to dodge all sorts of people and things who would steal what little stuff you have, then kill and/or eat you.

Fallout NV has an army in nearly full control of a very well organized population center, with advanced societal political factions, with mostly intact buildings, centralized power, communal food production, water plants, and a great deal of wealth, with none of this in FO3. The biggest deal for the civilians is to try to stay clear of what amounts to a faction war, and it all seems more akin to some dismal part of Africa rather than the live-like-rats in the ruins FO3.

I get good results with the Police pistol....especially once I got back to the Mojave....but then I use only JHPs in it. I wish they would patch it to fix the lack of a rear sight notch in iron sights mode and make the Cowboy perk apply to what is basically a Colt Police Positive Special....a revolver design from the 1920's. If modern .44 Magnum revolvers...not to mention "That Gun"...get the Cowboy perk in NV then so should the Police pistol.

There is a big disconnect between the FO3 backstory and the Capital Wasteland the player experiences. DC was supposedly nuked so hard most of it wasn't settled until 40 years before the game began....Megaton, the oldest settlement outside of Lamplight, wasn't even fortified when Dashwood was adventuring in the 2240s. With the relative good condition of many larger buildings, and how large parts of the ruins still have electricity.....FO3 looks more like 20 years after the war rather than 200. NV looks a lot more like 200 years after the War than FO3 did....you'd expect successor states to have arisen and contend for power, and for those States to refurbish pre-war infrastructure for thier own use, or build anew after that much time had passed.

I didn't mean Hollywood like that, I meant like the image of a post-apocalyptic world as seen in movies. People eating rat burgers, ruined buildings etc. I probably didn't explain myself very well.
I totally agree with what you say about NV feeling like a dismal part of Africa. It seems alot of people on these forums take offence to people saying NV feels more 3rd world than post-apocalyptic. But it really does!

I'm not saying New Vegas is rubbish, it improved on Fallout 3 in many ways, I just prefer the look and feel of Fallout 3. Had they continued with the DC ruins and added more factions, reputations and all the things they brought to the table for NV I think it would have been the most amazing game ever!

I love the police pistol from the add on, I have a pistol very similar to it at home and I love it. I've started using the police pistol constantly just because it feels so familiar to me.
