Why I Hate This DLC

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 2:38 am

The story to this DLC and the new perks and level cap are all amazing and enjoyable, the gameplay is mind bogglingly annoying and is the exact opposite of what i want to do in a fallout game> I dont want to spam saves and hope i get to the next spot where my head wont blow off and i damn well better not be forced to platform in a game with such unfriendly controls for platforming. The speakers are the single worst gameplay element i have seen in a very long time, i have never wanted to throw my controller harder than when i was navigating these god forsaken hallways and their damned speaker mazes.

In games like fallout and TES there is one golden rule. SAVE OFTEN. This is a good way to get people into the habbit.
And speakers are easy, listen for crackling, and shoot them. I can diasable them all easily.

Yeah and when people complain that there's a lack of innovation what then? I thought they were good and interesting, adding a new level of challenge to the game aside from killing Ghost Poeple over and over and over agian, which would have been boring. Play the game better next time, if you're collar beeps, run back and keep prodding till you know where it is.

Theres a difference between save often, and save every 15 seconds or youre going to die, also the speakers themselves arent an issue, their giant death aura is the problem, any death i have that isnt a direct result of personal failure to aim or priortize items properly is a bogus death and thats all they provided

Edit: To above, theres good innovation and bad innovation too, this is bad innovation, i would have been significantly happier killing more ghost people and dodging holograms than dealing with the speaker mazes, trial and error puzzling doesnt work in new fallouts, good try i suppose but dont try again

Don't get why so many people are having a problem with the speakers.
I honestly think they're mad cause they actually have to use their eyes for once and be perceptive around the area.
The speakers + collar are simple.
The only one's that are a big middle finger are the one's in the vault.
Besides those they're all very easy to avoid and go through it you just use your eyes and actually look for them and plan out your movement.
I didn't have too much of a problem with them and it's not like I have Clark Kent's eyes.

The speakers are easy to get past [most of em] but it can be frustrating having to stop what youre doing and looking around slowly until you find a speaker. Just gets irriatitng, if they had left the speakers until you actually get into the sierra madre casino, that would have been better

The speakers in the vault really do svck. I don't mind looking for an unshielded one and shooting it, but the shielded, with no terminal to shut them off svck. The toxic clouds could be a PITA as well, given the relative paucity of stimpacks.

The rest of the DLC though, quite enjoyable. I really want a replayable area though, that I can rock in to and just kill a few denizens after I've finished questing.

I'll admit that the speakers take away from the immersion, but they were one of the must difficult yet satisfying puzzles I've solved.

It's always something. Deathclaws blocking the way. (ugh) Game-breaking gear. Exploding collars. It's too hard. It's too linear. It's too easy. It ends. hardcoe isn't hard enough. Very Hard isn't hard enough. Speakers. Gas clouds. Exclusivity. Ghost people outfit not available to us. EWs not strong enough. Too many bugs. Having to save too often.

It's always something.

The story and acting in Dead Money were great, but the actual gameplay was effing annoying. Not one part of it was any fun, and it was all a chore just to advance the story. Conversely in regular New Vegas I could spend hours roaming the wasteland and not advancing the story in any way and still have fun. Dead Money is awful.

Honestly, I envy 360 users. Dead Money looks fun, finding traps with your eyes is ridiculously easy, finding your way to get past a speakers broadcast range with your ears and mental imaging, that sounds WAY more fun than something else. I honestly think alot of the people complaining its 'terrible' are mad they have to do more than 'see bad guy, you shoot it dead.' and use their IRL perception to a stong degree.

Dead Money is definitely fun. It's a totally different experience than anything else in the Mojave Wasteland - the traps and gas and enemies combine to make it so.

It takes work to get through this DLC. You can't just charge in and through, you NEED caution and a lot of patience. If you are the kind of person who feels that the experience is the reward, then you'll like the DLC.

Don't believe the nay-sayers.

I set up items in my safehouses, on console, and I went from Goodsprings till Lucky 38 advancing through the quest line with 2 crutches, each clipboard type, medical brace, doctors bag and each medical surgery item, just so I can set up a medical bay in the L38 for RP purposes. Trust me, I have patience

That's not the problem here. The problem is that it sounds like a console game, not an RPG. it sounds like a metagame, where gamers game the game. But I wouldn't know, because this DLC isn't available to me, and from the way it's starting to sound like a cross between a Bioware C(rap)RPG and some sort of console "run the gauntlet FPS), I might not be missing much.

I hope this apparent trend towards the storytelling and console end of the RPG spectrum and away from the traditional Bethesda sandbox PC gamer model is short lived.

I really like the collar aspect, as I'm not one for an all out "Run 'n' gun" - sneaking, assessing your moves and being made to be absolutely aware of your surroundings is more my thing. The clouds could be annoying I suppose, but I saw them as making the situation all the more tense, as you could be hopping out of radio range, staying out of sight of the ghost people, all while trying to conserve health in an unforgiving landscape with fairly limited supplies. I suppose I'm a bit of a masochist - I like getting stumped in a game, and having to go back to saves to try and figure out a way to do something - it's much more satisfying to me than, say, just fighting an enemy which you know you could beat if only you had a better gun or something. I haven't beaten it yet, but I'm really enjoying the story too :) Genuinely want to see how it resolves itself, instead of just wanting it to end so I can get on with something else.

A wise man once said "Try to please everyone and you please no one". That goes double when you only have about six or so hours of game content. With DLCs, it's better to focus on one aspect of the game rather than try to a condensed version of the full game. Better to do one thing and do it well then try to do a dozen things and do them half-assed.

We can't enjoy some challenging elements without being "weird"?

I guess it's the same reason that those who read the dialogue options are just showing off. Why can't you just do it if you skip it all? Making it so you have to concentrate is clearly dumb.

I for one am enjoying it. Playing it on hardcoe and I've found it challenging but fun. I've only died once which was my fault because I killed Christine. Whoops!

Concentration takes TOO MUCH work. And reading?! Who the hell READS? Reading. Pfeh. Who needs it. Reading dialogs cuts into my trigger time. I want to kill [censored], not read or figure out puzzles.

Playing devils advocate here, but MAN YOU ARE SO SMART.

Damn people, wanting to have fun and stuff, what are they thinking?! Fun takes WORK you have to EARN fun.

Um, and buying it wasn't earning it enough. lol.

I haven't played DM yet, but you seem to think people should think and accept everything as perfect and never voice any complaint. I don't get your problem personally *shrug*.

Well maybe Casual Mode's version of Dead Money should lower the death cloud -HP per second and make cameras and radios take twice as long to asplode the player.

Dont get me wrong, the speakers arnt that challenging. But jesus christ are they irritating. :brokencomputer: Nothing like, that beeping noise in youre ear to piss you off. I think this DLC stepped the line between difficult and just got damn annoying. I mean between the gas, the lack of stinpacks or decent food or water, the lack of ammo, the holograms, the ghost people, the fact that you cannot leave the DLC until you have finished, being stuck in a tightly enclosed space, i found all that challenging enough did they really need to stick a collar on you that makes a beeping noise and blows off youre head if you cannot find a speaker. Not only that but that some speakers are invulnverable so that you cannot destroy them.

Hate the fact that once you finish the DLC but stay in Sierra Madre, you can visit the companions and get the rest of the perks. Or that everything that is story related just made everything more confusing and a mystery.

Well, I enjoyed it speakers and all. Sure it was a bit frustrating to find them but there are ways to do so if you just take the time to look for them and that includes the means to shut down the sheilded ones. I've been through once and though my deaths were multiple, I don't take any of this seriously enough to get my skivvies in a twist. It's a challange like any other and an enjoyable one at that.

I play because it pleases me to do so. I also play with the appreciation of what it takes to make these games and DLCs and am appreciative to all who have developed them. I say thanks, not you could have done this, or you should have done that. It is what it is.

I guess I never understood the gripe just to gripe mentality.
