Why is THE STRIP boring?

Post » Tue May 10, 2011 5:55 pm

I thinks it's just screaming out for a mod. Call it "More Interesting Strip" (or something more good)

This. I'm waiting for a "Better Cities" sort of thing for the Strip, but with some new quests as well.

Why is THE STRIP boring? I thought it would be fun, i just gambled once and got bored... what is fun and what to do?

Which strip? The segment with the Lucky 38, the segment with The Tops, or the segment with Vault 21? Whoops...right there's the first reason, because there's not "a" Strip.

Add that it's supposed to be such a screaming-hot destination, and there are about as many NPCs in all 3 segments combined as one would expect to see in one segment...

And all those quests...*cough*

Yeah, The Strip is indeed pretty disappointing IMO. Especially after they tease you in the opening trailer with the nonexistent one where you can run, uninterrupted, from Michael Angelo's sign shop to the Lucky 38.

I was extremely dissapointed to find out was less intresting then freeside.

i was hoping there would be tons of quests to do. it seemed like there were less NPC in vegas then there were in the Mojave Express.

if there was one thing in game i was dissapointed im, it was the strip

I think it is because of the lack of characters present on the Strip. Everywhere you go it is described as being the best place in Vegas and the most populated; but unfortunately this is not the case. They didn't add enough people or random activities I think. It just feels empty.

I think that's it. I mean, I like the concept of the Strip, the casinos look nice and all that, but there's just not enough to do there. There aren't really that many quests there, and the only real side activity to do there is gambling, which you can only do until you're banned from all the casinos, after which, they're just decoration. Really, the most common reason I go there, outside of quests that require going to the Strip, is to visit my home in the Lucky 38.

I guess the problem is that it's justr kind of dissappointing, I mean, Obsidian kept talking about how impressive the Strip is, but really, once the novelty of seeing a place like that in the middle of a stereotypical post apocalyptic wasteland has warn off, you find that there just isn't really that much to do there. Granted, a lot of places in the game don't give you much reason to return once you've done all the quests there, but the main difference here, I think, is the importance the Strip is supposed to have in the game, and how much it was hyped up. I doubt post people expected anything really impressive from Primm, but the Strip, on the other hand, kind of just left people dissappointed.

I agree with most. Not enough bustle. I actually had more fun in Freeside (probably because I had no expectations).

Agreed. I'm on my second playthrough and will probably quit once I have to go to The Strip to do the main quest. Dealing with the various casinos is just so boring and tedious. Mr House, Yes Man ... who cares?

I thinks it's just screaming out for a mod. Call it "More Interesting Strip" (or something more good)

Yup...that's me. I did two of the endings but after that...I do everything outside of the Strip that I can, but stop after that. The meat of the game is not the core main quest, imo.
The "Strip" to me consists of a few/several very large, empty buildings with nothing to do in them but gamble. Playing the slots was good for about an hour of fun but it's not like I need the extra caps so...but it is pretty at night. :)

The strip is fun fow a while, but gets bland. Here are some stuff that could fix it:

1. A market/Mall where you can get fancy clothes and awesome guns.

2.. Some non-casino buildings like Condos, Apartments, Restaurants, Shooting Ranges, Golf, Radio Station etc.

I know there is already a mod that adds more gamblers (with interesting behavior), dancers, guys watching the dancers, etc to the casinos which I downloaded for my second play through although I've just begun.

Would be cool for them to add some stuff that New Reno had in it. :)

Anyway looks like alot of the complaints have to do with the technical short comings of the game engine. For those of you on the PC there's some mods that add tons of random NPC's to the strip.

It kind of makes sense that the strip is not very populated. How many wastelanders have you run across with 2000 caps to drop just to walk in the front gate, not to mention gambling money, drinking money, [censored] money, chem money...Vegas is for high rollers man, nobody has the caps for that.

It's really the lack of NPC's interacting with each other that kill it for me (edit:although this happens throughout the game). I'd like to see a gambler walk up to the street vendor and inquire about her wares, or an NCR trooper mouthing off to an MP just little touches that would add a little life.

This is one of my biggest disappointments about FNV...the NPCs don't talk to each other.

There's nothing much to do there really.
I thought the casino's would be sprawling with people who needed stuff done: quests.
Instead each casino got like 1 quest each...
And gambling...
So yeah I had hoped for taking up Mojave Express deliveries or being able to hire any prosttute there or take up jobs to defend the city but nope.
Nothing much to do there.

Yeah, instead they decided to unload all of the quests on the NCR...

I thought the Strip was boring also. Wasn't an awful location, but the fact that there is nothing there to do and that you have to go through several loading screens to get to the NCR Embassy there is fustrating. There was a helluva lot more going on in Freeside.

There needs to be more people to talk to doesn't there. Even if they don't have quests, they should have little back stories and things. That would make it much better in my opinion. There's too many of the generic "Traveller" or "The Gambler" NPCs.

The strip is boring because the game
is only 6.77GiBs big...

That's pretty small...compared to the early Unreal Engine 3 games that didn't have that nasty streaming texture crude
Most of them were 15-28GiBs big and people didn't buy them...shows how much people supported the better DX9

But back to the game at hand...

Fallout: New Vegas the main reason why the strip is so small and has so little quests is simply because of one of these reasons
1. Bethesda rushed Obsidian
2. Gamebyro is at fault
3. Obsidian fell on a banana and slipped behind the curtains

I think someone had a brain 'splosion..
The game has a 1950s outlook...1980s appearance
But, the nukes dropped on 2077... Did I miss something?

New Vegas(Vegas) REGARDLESS of time shouldn't have shrunk....There was no big extravagant hotels in Vegas at the time it was all small tiny but very good looking Motels....
Even if a nuke attack did happen and if what Mr. House did..then there should technically be atleast 8-13 Hotels(Probably more)...based by 2077..(Considering the game looks more 80's than anything there was alot more than 13 hotels on the strip or near the strip at the time)

But still the game is fun the engine lacks...like fallout 1 and 2 but hey you can't get everything :\

I think some people expected New Vegas to be it's own world, when you need to consider it as just another town. They could have taken more time adding more content to Vegas but they would have had to reduce the time spent adding content to the rest of the Mojave and considering there are people who are criticising FNV for being smaller then Fallout 3 already I'm not sure the tradeoff would have been welcome.

Personaly I felt New Vegas taken in context along with the whole of freeside which is essentialy half of New Vegas just the poor half it had plenty of content. I was more dissapointed by how small the Max Bid" limit was for gambling....I'd much prefer to gamble everything once and risk a complete loss or a big win then spend half an hour eeking out my wallet a few caps at a time.

I was very disappointed by Vegas especially after the previews for the game made it sound a lot deeper. However i have come to expect this from Bethesda's style of game. They make things with a ton of potential that sometimes cant live up to it. Just look at places like the Imperial City in TES or Rivet City in FO3. They build big games and all that world space takes away from their ability to make anything too in depth

This. I was really expecting to see a ton of merchants and vendors in the Strip. I was also hoping to find some major Radio Station or something, but..

What's sad is that in spite of of my refusal to watch most of the trailers and preview clips for New Vegas, I still felt very underwhelmed when entering the Strip. I now prefer to see the Vegas Strip in the evening, off in the distance where it looks like a promising jewel that could not possibly let me down.

But it does. :sadvaultboy:

Hmm. The various casino quests were some of the best of the entire game. Really enjoyed the multiple angles to tackle each.

I loaded the casino population mod before I got to New Vegas so I didn't have the same disappointed feeling most of you had. I actually appreciated the game much more after playing through the casino plots and interacting with Mr. House and Yes-Man. The game seemed a lot more complex, story-line wise, after reaching NV.

I agree. I'm a svcker for the good guy angles in quests, but the fact that I COULD have made more evil choices makes them more interesting. They're not even all black and white. The "good" path for Gomorrah, for example, puts a pretty bad guy in charge. I love the gritty nuances.
