I think it is because of the lack of characters present on the Strip. Everywhere you go it is described as being the best place in Vegas and the most populated; but unfortunately this is not the case. They didn't add enough people or random activities I think. It just feels empty.

There's nothing much to do there really.
I thought the casino's would be sprawling with people who needed stuff done: quests.
Instead each casino got like 1 quest each...
And gambling...
So yeah I had hoped for taking up Mojave Express deliveries or being able to hire any prosttute there or take up jobs to defend the city but nope.
Nothing much to do there.

If gambling doesn't float your boat, there are about half-a-dozen quests that start on the Strip. Apart from that, though, yeah, it's dull, and not worth the loading screens to visit. It should have been one of the highlights of the game, but as it is it's something of a let-down.

Its too instanced, not populated enough, not enough quests there and simply not enough activities to do.

I don't know, I quite like it. Having spent numerous hours in F3 and FNV looking at drab brown/grey/yellow scenery, its nice to have a bit of colour. Sure, other than gambling (which I'm rubbish at :(), and partaking of the various 'services' that the casinos offer, theres not a great deal going on. I would have expected it to be buzzing with activity, but other than a drunk NCR trooper staggering around outside, theres not much else happening. Still, I like the nice colours. :)

Also, LOTS of load screens. The main reason why I don't use the Tops/Lucky38 suites as a base. If my home is not within 5 seconds of a fast-travel point, then its no good.

New Vegas does have some alright quests, but yeah, it is just a boring place, I think if they expanded it and put in shops and stuff to lock pick and hack then it would be better. Hey, have you noticed the glitch of the drunk soldier becoming instantly sober?

I would go on to say that it's not just the lack of characters present on the Strip, but the depth of the characters who are present.
I mean, it's all well and good for the original funny moment seeing some random NCR NCP puking in the street or on a tree, or dancing in a fountain while being scolded by a robot. However, it doesn't take long at all for these scripted behaviours to seem ... well ... scripted.

The Strip is boring because there is nothing really going on there.
It's that simple. It's also a source of some of my disappointment with Obsidian since a lot of the hype for NV revolved around how "exciting" the Strip would be in the game. To me, and this is just my opinion, the casinos are all the same ... same bot at the door challenging you for your weapons ... same games on the floor. The few quests tied to each casino are just slight disappointing. However, I did think that "Beyond the Beef" was cool, just to be fair.

Overall, as Raven says, the Strip just does NOT live up to the hype ... not that of the in game residents or the pre-release game info.

Just my half-cap.

I don't have problem with loading screens since it takes only one (from the north gate) of them to wonder around the Strip. Others are just black screens that take about two seconds to load.

Yup, as it stands the strip was PR crap (though I loved the gambling and the few quests that started there. Also I found all the casinos to be rather well designed from an artistic standpoint.)

It's also somewhat obvious that the strip belongs to Obsidians history of more was planned than actually could have been implented in the game due to technical limitations.

The artists got the look of it down perfectly. The fact that it feels unfulfilling may well be entirely intentional as well.

Have you ever been to the strip in the real Las Vegas? The New Vegas strip feels sort of conceptually true to life to me, in a way: way too much hype and glitter, with little of actual substance backing it. Keep in mind that not everybody in the game describes it as the best thing ever. Plenty of people describe it as simply a place that fleeces people out of their money.

That said, I think there's still more to do there than folks are giving it credit for ... but this ain't the spoilers forum, so I'll just remind us that there are multiple quests, and one of them makes the Tops more interesting to visit...

And THAT said, I also have to agree that it's not really a place you can reasonably use as a base due to fast travel accessibility and the lack of a nearby doctor, ammo merchant, or campfire. Some other locations are more usable for this.

Wouldn't have been as frustrating if it wasn't hyped so much. Hoover Dam has more signifigance but it's hard to get people excited about large dams.

I think its a fun place, but it sort of lives up to real world things like Hollywood, Vegas, NYC. Places so hyped as the advlt place to swing with your friends, but when you look beyond the glitz and glamour, you find it's more or less a place to sell your soul for a vice.

But personally, I found The Strip to be pretty neat, in the day when all the lights outside are off it's like The Strip is 'asleep' and 'wakes' at night, all the lights, the glitz, the partying, the catchy music, the vices.

Apart from Gommorah, which I didnt care for (That whole 'six and drugs are hip thing to do' scene they encourage isn't my scene) I enjoy Mr. House and the Casinos.

But aside from my personal love for The Strip, I do feel alot of people may feel gipped because The Strip was pretty over hyped. In Tech Demos, the obnoxious 'kaboom' at the end of the trailer, hell most of the trailers. The beginning of the TV commercial, screenshots etc. I seem to recall more Strip than no Strip Pre-Release screenshots.

The Strip could use some more unique personalities roaming around, but overall I have fun there. The Ultra-Luxe is my favorite destination spot on the Strip, I just wish I could macro a "Chew on This!" message for when I draw a weapon.

It's better from afar. When you're up in Goodsprings Cemetery at night looking at the big city lights you can't wait to get there. It promises answers, riches, six and fame. And then you get there and realise it was never gonna live up to the expection. I like the place but the wasteland is where I'd rather be.

I think it has a lot to do with the fact that in order to make it a crazy, crowded place, you would have had to really put a buggy, glitchy game through its paces. I mean, the reason the strip is broken up by interior walls is to prevent the game from crashing with all the stuff going on. If you added more people inside and outside the casino...look out...

I just wish you could talk to all those various people. They wouldn't have to say much. Just some drunk line and maybe a rumor or some hint on a quest or story about old vegas before the war. It's nice to have so many NPCs around the strip but I want to speak with them about something, anything.

I think it'd be funny to have someone come up to you drunk offering to go somewhere discreet to have six, or you coud say something like "Er....What?" or maybe have a nonhostile causing dialogue option

Or maybe have a Pre-War clothing/suit merchant on The Strip, place full of rich people, and Pre-war clothes being a status symbol thing, it makes sense IMO.

It's really the lack of NPC's interacting with each other that kill it for me (edit:although this happens throughout the game). I'd like to see a gambler walk up to the street vendor and inquire about her wares, or an NCR trooper mouthing off to an MP just little touches that would add a little life.

I found it fun to start with, but less so the longer I play the game. I think it needs a lot more sidequests like the beefy Ultra-Lux quest or similar to the one about finding entertainers for the tops etc, but more so a decent trader in the strip, someone that has plenty amo for the hunting revolver or mini nukes etc.

While the Strip is nicely designed, I think its a letdown because there just so much more to do right around the Strip. Freeside, Westside, and just North of New Vegas are all more interesting. Freeside it self has more quests to do then all of New Vegas does. I (and most people I'm guessing), were hoping for more interaction between the casinos. (gang hits, etc.) Also I hoping for more back ally type adventures in New Vegas. Freeside did really well with this type of action, New Vegas doesn't do it at all.

Why would there be open gun fire and violence on The Strip? Mr. House is basically ensuring the street to be clean and safe. Freeside is the cliche dystopic collapse of order.

Still I believe people expected there would more interplay between the families and the casinos. As it stands right now, once you've finished the quest in a casino, there's no reason to go back to it. Unless you really like the place.

Agreed. I'm on my second playthrough and will probably quit once I have to go to The Strip to do the main quest. Dealing with the various casinos is just so boring and tedious. Mr House, Yes Man ... who cares?

I thinks it's just screaming out for a mod. Call it "More Interesting Strip" (or something more good)
