The game just came out, and a patch is already in the works. Beth/Obsidian is dealing with this problem extremely quickly, all things considered. I mean, it's impossible to test for every single hardware configuration, so it's no wonder some bugs slipped under the radar.
However, some time ago, I bought Civilization IV. The game is 5 years old, yet the wait times between turns takes as long as a game made 5 years from now would take on my laptop (which is reasonably up-to-date). I've done my research, and posted in forums, yet the general consensus is that because the game is so darn good (I wouldn't know), the AI taking an unreasonable amount of time is completely forgivable. ("It's not a bug, it's a feature!" seems to actually be considered true in this situation)
I respectfully disagreed, and have refused to buy Civ V, even though I really, really want it.
Now, Bethesda and Obsidian are dealing with these bugs in a very timely manner, and therefore I believe any threats to not buy their products again are completely unreasonable. On the other hand, in the 5 years Civ IV has been out, Firaxis hasn't bothered to fix this (fairly prevalent, as near as I can tell) performance problem, so not buying their products ever again actually seems much more reasonable.
