For one, statistics (and almost all data) is subjective BS. It never actually represents any accurate measurement. That said, just because a small number of people proportionally came on to this forum compared to the number of sales (which are shelve numbers anyways) doesn't represent the constancy of issues Tess postings represent. Consistent the array of issues, the severity of freezes (I had three today), and the actual acknowledgent by gstaff in response to patches, I would say this is a big issue for everyone. No company wants to be associated with faulty product.
Just seeing the couple copies of this already on used shelves tells me that there is a large number of unsatisfied players out there. I wouldn't call it large in a pandemic sense, but I think the reason you see more issues with many of the people on forum is due to our niche consisting of a mix of hardcoe gamers and regular gamers just wondering WTF.
I've never posted on any forums, but I got fired from my job last month (either the worst or best timing with FONV and Black Ops weeks apart) but I have come to this one daily. Originally to figure it all out, make demands, rant, and passively exercise some communication skills but SOLELY because I truly live this game. I can't stop discussing it with my roommate while my girlfriend has developed a deep relationship with my cat.
So basically, I keep reiterating that I am not exactly sympathizing with Beth for releasing a very buggy game, but I AM tired of peoples rationalizing of the market based on the games current state. It's not as deep as everyone wants to take it. Simply put, the game is getting fixed on some level. If it isn't the echoes of it's mixed misfortune will reverberate for some time in the game community. Especially when the press starts doing it's year end reviews and wrap ups. This will only put more pressure on Beth and other publishers to get it right on deadline.
Think of it this way...most games that I buy are substandard in their total composition. FONV is amazing in it's composition and requires some deep tuning for it to be what it truly is. Where as many games are just what they are...working yes, but shallow experiences that rarely go further than their concept. Especially when you consider how some games (at least in my dustfree game library) have such a short playthrough or replay value.
Yes, many games are either online multiplayer experiences with longer shelf lives or they are grand games of this nature that can be unfolded again and again over long periods of time.
It's not a clear marketing decision for the consumer to simply turn their backs on the game for being ostentatious. This is not the film industry or he car industry that has been refinig it's product for a hundred years. This is an exponentially evolving industry that is driven by money and maintained by the ever growing populace of players that grow broader in demographic each day.
It's obvious that it's not just a few people with a bad run of disc burns or older xboxes. Beth knows this. We know this. Clear the forums of the squabbling. I myself can barely keep track of all the bugs in the game as I encounter a new one every day.
