Why do you play opposite gender characters (if you do?)

a man seems more suited for up front combat imo, i play female mages & thiefs cause they get nicer outfits.

I don`t. I like to play as me, so I don`t play females... that way I get more immersed. I supposed if I played in 3rd person where I stare at my character butt all day then I would play female.

And I have no allusions to be female- at all.

But...your avi is female.

I do it mostly because I can...and I just don't give a [censored] what people think about my gaming habits. My opinion is one of, "My game, my time, my business."

Ha! I love it! Great answer.

Almost every character I create these days is female. One out of seven characters is male. I think the female characters are more interesting. I like to watch films with a female actresses, I listen to music by female artists, I like to be around women more than men. I play the sniper characters as myself. The rest of them are females. I put myself in the guy's shoes. I put myself in the girl's heads, therefore they are all lisbian.

I don't identify particularly strongly with many traditional masculine traits and I do with some feminine traits
This is similar to my reason. I'm male, but as far back as I can remember I've always felt more comfortable around females. To be blunt, most of the men I've met in my life have not been very interesting. This applies to games, too. I don't find male characters interesting either.

To play something different than I am...also the reason I choose races other than human. I like playing both genders though.

Because my characters are so different from me, that to differ with regard to gender seems minor.

I play females about 50% of the time, despite being male. The reasons I do so are usually some mixture of the following.

-I find females sixually attractive

-I think often female heroes look "cooler" than males

-I don't identify particularly strongly with many traditional masculine traits and I do with some feminine traits (Wouldn't say I'm really feminine in personality, more androgynous leaning slightly toward masculine) so I have no desire to play particularly masculine characters most of the time

-I often seem to enjoy playing characters that defy traditionally expected roles

-Sometimes I have a bit of a story in mind and want to roleplay a female character

What are your reasons for playing a character of the opposite six?

1. Its not about playing a sixually attractive female.
2. I dont think one looks cooler than the other, both genders have ways of looking "cool" these days.
3. I dont need to play a hulking muscular dude to enjoy a game or to prove anything, female characters are just as awesome as male characters.
4. I dont care about expectencies.
5. I never roleplay, not really.

The reason I lean towards creating female characters especially with MMO genre's is because if I am going to spend a few hours looking at a screen I might as well be staring at something appealing to my raw nature.

In Skyrim or in general?

In general, I play male characters in games where gender has impact on the story - if there are certain encounters, choices and character development decisions only available to one gender. I'm curious about different possibilities, so I roll a male. Of course there's also the romance factor (Morrigan, anyone?)

In Skyrim, there's no reason whatsoever to play a male over a female, so all that's left is my imagination. I invented a story for a male Khajiit mage and created this character, but all my other characters are female.

OMG! I thought I was the only woman that loved Morrigan's romance!

I play both, to change things up. I usually play males, but sometimes I get tired of looking at that same man's butt over and over, so I have some female characters too, just to change things up a bit.

I read somewhere that young men surprisingly would play female characters because they just liked looking at the female body.(not surprising)

I usually play female characters when the game won't allow me to play that character with those unique skills as a male. Skyrim doesn't force you to do that, and the differences in abilities are largely washed away now, from previous ES games. Its a cosmetic thing, or a personal preference.

then, your choice of men is very suspect. i'd have solved the problem in a few hours or days.

edit: interest? lol.

Occasionally, usually when I'm in heavy role-play mode. But I make more appropriate builds for my females, like Archers and Mages. 90% of my TES characters have been males.

For the eye candy effect.

Because there are more mods for female characters.

Because it's role playing and sometimes I like playing a character as widely different form myself as possible.

That being said, my main character is Nord male warrior, but I also have a cold hearted little minx of an assassin.

Females look better in most games but I just get a kick out of watching my tiny female breton absolutely destroy dragons.

i am a male and i prefer female characters unless the male character looks badass(pirate outfit + laser guns etc). Would you rather prefer to stare at a female's butt for 300 hour of gameplay OR a male's?????

I always play as a male character. It's just something I've made a habit since Pokemon Crystal.

Yes, the same way you can create a backstory, goal and higher meaning for your character.
Just ask any of the immersive-roleplaying guys on the forum.
Where's your imagination?
