Why do you play opposite gender characters (if you do?)

Post » Mon Jun 11, 2012 11:54 am

Well.... I play an Orc of the opposite six....and I have no desire to be green in RL...and the characters is certainly not what I would call "sixy".
And I play a Khajiit of the same six. I don't want fur all over my body but I must say that this character is pretty good looking otherwise.

So...you don't know my RL six...but based on these characters...please psycho-anolyze me and tell me what my RL issues are.

Thanks.

That's why I don't get the "my characters are like me, so they're lisbians" thinking. My male characters are like me, so they're hetero.
I don't "make" my female characters lisbian because they're like me, but if I did, it would be because I like girls, and so would they. Also, I've always had the idea that if I was a woman in real life, I'd be a lisbian too. One of my very best friends is a lisbian, and I like her alot. I guess I just like lisbians. And girls. Does that make me a lisbian guy? :P

I almost always play a male character. I like to roleplay and I can't roleplay with a female... It just doesn't feel right, since I'm a guy.

It would be boring to only play male characters. Gender is an important part of identity, even if TES tends to erase the gender roles that would make it meaningful in-game.

And really, I can imagine myself having briasts a lot easier than I can imagine myself as a fearless dragon-slaying wizard. What we do in-game is already so far removed from who we really are that genitalia is just a footnote.

But yet you can pretend you're living in a computer generated world playing a race you're obviously not, slinging magic and fighting dragons?

Can you play any of the Tomb Raider games?

You are severely limiting your role playing options.

I just don't like female characters as much... I'm not limiting my options, I've tried playing a female several times and I didn't like it, so why would I care if it's an option? And it doesn't matter how unrealistic the rest of the game is, I'm just talking about how I have a guy's mindset about everything, so I find it easier to relate to a male character, making it easier to roleplay as him.

And I still play females every once in a while, I just usually make it a more casual playthrough when I do.

And no, I haven't played any of the Tomb Raider games, but I'm just talking about TES games here, I'm not saying that's how I feel about other games.

...because they're heterosixual men, who like women? :whistling:

:D

Like I said, I don't "identify" with any characters I play with in games, whether they're male, female, lizard, or Pac-Man. I just see them as playing pieces that I move around on the chessboard.

re: Fallout.... you know, even including Fallout 1 many, many years ago, I don't think I've ever played a male character in those games.

I have no problem getting into the mindset of any of my characters be they male or female or another race. It must be my overactive imagination I suppose (I'm an artist and a writer). As for gay or straight, most of my characters tend to be bi regardless of their gender.

I do it mostly because I can...and I just don't give a [censored] what people think about my gaming habits. My opinion is one of, "My game, my time, my business."
this and what alot of other people have pointed out i find the female form more visually appealing and when i create a character i think about what i want their background be sometimes the background fits male character sometimes a female just depends.

I have no qualms playing a female character, especially in single player. The only problem I have is I need to be a male character if I put time into it.

Yes, the same way you can create a backstory, goal and higher meaning for your character.
Just ask any of the immersive-roleplaying guys on the forum.
Where's your imagination?

Well, tell me. Have you ever married a male NPC while playing as female toon?

No, because they're lisbian. I would marry a female NPC though, if that's possible.

Exactly. I tried it in ME and it just felt like I was watching some dude hit on my sister.

EDIT : That's why Liara is the only option.

I don't find romance to be relevant, actually. Each to their own, but whether or not you can imagine pairing your female with a male or vice versa does not dictate why or how you play the opposite-gender character. I personally haven't had my characters marry anyone in Skyrim yet, simply because the sheer lack of dialogue in the rest of the game doesn't exactly provide much of an appetizer for what is to come - and I suspect the main dish is a vast disappointment in that regard.

However, if the game did have more dialogue I'd definitely go for it. In every possible way. Male-female, female-male, female-female, male-male. You name it. All except pairing with Khajit or Argonians; that's a step too far, in my opinion.

But yes, let's just say it's all in the name of science. Or curiosity. The two aren't mutually exclusive.
