I wish NPC's would recognize

Post » Mon May 28, 2012 5:20 pm

As a dragonborn, I have a unique gods given ability to do horrible, horrible things to my enemies in combat, as well as manipulating the very fabric of time and space with just my voice. And i truly I wish that people would acknowledge that fact more, and take me a little more seriously. For example...when Im joining the companions, and this guy wants to test your mettle outside. Id love to be able to Disarm shout him. And have him say something like: what manner of monster are you?! I have never seen anything like that! you are a force to be reckoned with! instead The companion guy still says: "Go sharpen my blade whelp"

And at this point in the game when I decided to join the companions, I could end that moron without even trying. he couldn't even hurt me. I'm just a little miffed by that. Bandits too. They are even less menacing that one of the companions circle. if they see me shouting at them they should start running in cowardice, like the cowardly thieves and brigands they are.

I dont think the shouts are normal magic. even though they are in the magic section of the menu, I think they are something else. a unique gift, a skill that nobody else on Nirn has, AND NOBODY ACKNOWLEDGES IT except for the grey beards and that once when you slay your first dragon by that one guard.

Yeah.. they always get onto me for it. It's funny when you tell them to shove off and they pretty much back down like the sweetroll obsessed cowards that they are.

I said it earlier on another thread, character interaction is not Bethesda's strong suit. World building is where they shine (in my experience).

Guards sometimes acknowledge it by saying...you're the dragonborn of legend arent you...or soemthing like that. but seriously when you start doing strange crap that nobody else can do, and people start seeing you single handely taking down dragons like they were not even a challenge to you, or you show up to thier little club decked out in daedric armor thats pulsating with magical energies to the point where electircal tendrils are flowing over your body, and every place your feet touch the ground leaves a smoky shadow, then I think its time they start to question whether or not they should mess with you.

I'm just saying...

By the way id love to make a mod where your armor does that if properly enchanted.

People are stupid, they don't understand what it means to be a magic-user or a dragonborn. Very ignorant people...

1. Imagine how hard that would be to implement in the game.

2. It would be icredibly boring if every bandit ran from you just because you have deadric on. Plus not everyone knows everything so most bandits could think the shout is just another type of magic (which it is)

Um, they comment on it all the time! "Did you just...shout?" "You're the dragonborn!" "Did you just take it's soul?!" on and on.

So, bad thread is bad.

One thing I wish the Jarl of Whiterun's Wizard would recognize is that I've become the Arch-Mage. It goes right over his head. :D

I prefer my shouts to be a silent whisper to mark them for death. I would have preferred to have the option to scale into heavy shouts or soft shouts. Heavy shouts would be something that does physical damage like fire/ice breath or unrelenting and soft would be like mark of death and aura except having curses, damages over time. Fear could be soft, but frenzy could be heavy. Alduins bane would be different for heavy or soft.

That just isn't true. Hate to burst your bubble, but there's quite a few NPCs that have the ability to shout...e.g. the grey beards.

1. Imagination is very different from reality. In fact I think they are opposites. The numbers and mechanics it would take to have an NPC recognize the Players armor, level, skills, etc.... I just don't see that happening.

2. Shouting IS magic.

I agree and this does sound promising, but I can't think of how to implement this without making the Dragonborn experience very... "Boring".

"I was going to ask you to do something, but you is the Dragonborn! You order me!"
"Hey, why we don't make you the Arch-Mage? You is the Dragonborn after all!"
"I was going to test your capabilities so that you can enter our Guild, then I noted that you is the Dragonborn!"
"Please Dragonborn! Be our Thane!"
"Could you pick up some Nirnroots for me? Oh, what I'm saying, you is the Dragonborn! Let me do it!"
"I was going to arrest you, but you is the Dragonborn so forget about that!"
"I was going to take a arrow in the knee, then I saw that you is the Dragonborn!"

Shouts are a gift that no one else has... Except the Greybeards and Ulfric and who knows how many other people.

How are they to know that you're the Dragonborn vs someone like Ulfric that just knows how to use the Thu'um?

Agree. Shouts arent an every day thing in Skyrim.

In addition to that much else character interaction is needed too.

You funny.

Only weaker enemies should flee. That would be pretty realistic if you call a lightning storm on them.

Just some mentions about it would go a long way.
