woot lvl 30 too start ...i mean lvl 15 grr

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 9:17 pm

no they said on the reviews that they have more perks per level, therefore there will be more perks. and i think they said somethin about raiseing the leevel cap to level 35 or 40.

What I heard is that the level cap is 30, if they decided to raise it higher than that, then I haven't heard of it. If they did, though, 40 would make more sense, as if we get perks every two levels, it would seem ideal to have the amout of levels available by an even number.

I hope they also bring out some fun perks for extra that are mildly useful. For example Overkill -> You deal 200% more damage with Fatman. Not very useful, but makes sure that everything dies when you launch it

It seems to me that abilities which are focused more on just being fun than actually being useful would make more sense as traits, since if you can only get perks once every two levels now, you'll want to make sure each one you take is worth your while, thus, it would seem to me that the designers should ensure that all perks are worth choosing.

But whether the choice to give perks every two levels was a good one or not depends on how many perks there are in the game, I want the game to be balanced and there to be some degree of importance to which perks you choose, so I certainly don't want to be able to have a character who has every single perk available in the game. On the other hand, if the amount of perks the player can choos is too small compared to how many are actually available, then it seems a little too limiting, so it really comes down to game balance, and while I admire Obsidian's efforts to balance the game, I can't say if they're actually effective or not until I've seen how they work out in the game.

snip

The reason they felt like that in Fallout 3 was because progressing the skills didn't, the perks felt like as if being offered to patch the lack in skill impact - like they needed to be there to make moving from level x to level y more worthwhile. The way things are shaping up, that won't be the case this time around (at least not to the same degree).

Personally I felt that perk per every level watered them down. They didn't give any sense of accomplishment due to them being as common as skillpoints (and in some cases as useless too) - they were just too much "part of the leveling" to be noticed as anything extra as they are supposed to be. Imo.

What? No, you are completely wrong. The level cap is 30, that's it. And you can't choose more perks per level. Only 1 every 2 levels.

I like that you can only choose every 2 levels. It increases replayability, I will have to play multiple times to get all the perks.

it means y have more perks to choose from per level, and we don't really know who is wrong or who is right... YET

Alot of the fallout 3 perks were pretty useless to be honest, and by the end of the game i was running out of things that i actually wanted to take.

This way will be much better (in my opinion), and will cause us to think more about our decisions, rather then just grinding to the max level.

I wonder how many players are gonna take the Skilled trait if it's in.
Cause that means 1 perk every third levels = 10 perks in total. :)

Thats exactly why I never take it in Fallout or Fallout 2 :whistling:

I'd much rather choose 15 meaningful perks that will actually give my character some unique effects, In FO3 you always ended up with the exact same exact character build by lvl 30 and more then half of said perks were generally the standard "+5 to Repair" or "+10 to Small Guns" nothing unique or generally useful (not much creativity) went into their design.

With Fallout New Vegas we'll find that our perks will be much more meaningful not only because we have less of them but because they will carry much more weight this time around. :tops:

Agreed. There were no point in the perks for FO3 except for skill raising. What I like about the NV perks is that it's suppose to have more of an effect than just increasing a skill.

I still think there should be a cheat-code that unlocks infinite levels.
That way those who want god character can create them.

Yup.
Lots of games have cheat codes for them.
Why should New Vegas be any exception?
It's all about options.
Let those who want to use cheats use them, and those who don't want to use them can just ignore them.

they are much more meaningful.

Will only know this till we get the game, but its a good assumption from what we've seen so far.

Is it me

Yes.

I understand that. All + 10% Xp / +lvl & + Skill perks were pointless .. cause you are going too cap them in the end anyhow ..

And, oddly enough, I took plenty of +skill perks. Every character I've played in FO3. Why? Because I wasn't trying to min/max. I didn't care that I might max the skills "in the end"..... I focussed on maxing the skills that were central to each character, as soon as possible. In fact, even with my one high level character (29), I didn't have all the skills maxed. Not a single one of my characters did.

Now I rember this bing A big deal when F3 first came out .. that lvl 20 was the cap ppl wanted more lvls and perks...

I didn't. I've honestly never understood the whole clamor for a higher level cap. Broken Steel screwed the game up completely, as it was balanced around having just 20 levels. Adding 10 more, adding more skill points, adding more perks..... bleh. I don't even bother installing BS anymore when I play FO3, it screws up more than it adds.

(Not to say that it couldn't have been improved - the rate of XP gain was a bit too high. It should have taken longer to actually hit that 20 cap.)

My greatest hope for FO:NV is that there's never any level cap increase DLC released. If the game is properly balanced around the levels and perks it has, then that is how it should stay.

Ok this is how it works..

You get 15 perks and 2 traits.. thats 17 thingies. Only 2 less then in base fallout 3.

BUT THATS NOT ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Each perk is more oomphy in fo nv and there are alot more perks to choose from... and all the realy bad perks are GONE...er well most anyway...

Now what would you pay for this.. WAIT DONT ANSWER YET!!!!!!!!!!! BECAUSE!!!!!!!!!!!

There is MORE!!!!!!!!!!!!

We also have follower perks that can be upgraded even...

And there is MORE!!!!!!

We have quest perks and so on and so forth and blah blah blah...

So its all ok.

actually dude, thy say you pick 3 traits

The fun thing about the original fallout was really choosing your perks carefully, looking forward to that perk every 3rd level..(or 4th level if you took the skilled trait) Perks were really special... F3 kind of made perks not so special. Fun to get but not special. Building a character in the original was a lot more fretful... and I miss that in games these days.. Where the decisions you make actually count for something. Heck.. Baldur's Gate/Icewind Dale were incredibly hard to level up... I remember just sitting there fretting over the best way to level on each level up. .. and baldur's gate only took you to level 9 .. with the expansion.
Everybody wanted more levels in F3 because you got to level 20 waaaaay before you got to the end of the game. I don't care what the level cap is...as long as it's an incredibly hard goal to reach. F1 was 21.. I think I reached 17 or 18. F2 was 99.. but I think I only reached 21... I'm hoping that F:NV 's level 30 isn't as obtainable as F3's level 30.

where too start.

Man I was so happy that lvl 30 was going too be the lvl cap too start off NV .. but now i read we only get perks every 2 lvls ...that is dumb .. that makes lvl 30 pointless .. and we will only have 15 non quest perks .. I was really mad that F3 we only got too lvl 20 .. and only had 20 perks .. .. Now in NV ... we will have too lvl more too get less perks ..???

Is it me or is this ...... GRR.

I want more lvls too start .. so I could get more perks .. and was hopen their would be like 50 perks and only could get 30.

Actually getting a perk every two levels is much better than FO3's perk every single level. Now it's actually a treat instead of something you just get anyway. In FO1&2 it was actually a perk every three levels (even every 4 levels if you took a particular trait), so this lies nicely in between the extremes.

Hell, even a perk every three levels is more than justified, that's still 10 perks for 30 levels. FO3 just threw in everything at once because they were afraid that gamers are spineless wimps who are just spoiled rotten, unfortunately in your case they'd be correct
