I'm Writing a Document to Behtesda

Post » Sun Jun 10, 2012 9:17 pm

This is NOT a rant and rave ordeal. I am writing a several page text regarding both the problems associated with the game and potential solutions to them. I would also like to note that this is not a bug list, but rather problems or oversights with the actual game (such as short guilds, lack of NPC recognition for you feats, cookie-cutter quests). To help add credibility, I will both be posting it here first(for approval and review) and will include quotes from the various fans. If anyone has a legitimate, well thoughtout issue with the game that you believe can be easily fixed via a patch or DLC, please post it bellow. I will also post status updates as time passes.

COMPLETED:
Introduction
Short Guilds
NPC Simplicity
Marriage Issues

STATUS: Actions don't really matter

NEXT: Lack of meaningful quests

List of Topics:
Short Guild
NPC simplicity
Actions in game dont really matter.
DLC suggestions
Short, useless quests (pick 20 flowers)
Many NPCs are essential
Marrage is shallow
Main Quest ends in a sizzle

I hope they will read it, good luck.

Thanks, but some help adding in topics would be nice, so that way it doesnt turn into a big list of MY issues.

Make sure you spell their name right before you send it.

I don't think it will be read, but hope is a good thing.

They already know all what you're going to write; they've been working on this game for years.

Then they'll go look at the other 100,000 letters they got praising them and laugh.

I'm sure they're already aware of bugs, feature requests, and community opinions of this game. Even if folks fill out this thread with info, it'll be nothing new than what's been posted already in these (and other) forums.

Well, I still would like to try. Chances are the previous letters either contained incoherant rants by angry fans, or a long list of problems without any possible solutions. And with, all of the silly posts that nit-pick and look for every little flaw, Bethesda (got it right this time :) ) could use a good guid to the actual problems suggested in an orderly manner

I think the only problem with your plan (although a commendable effort) is that some things that you think are places they dropped the ball are places that other people think they triumphed. Like the lack of Spellmaking, or the removal of Attributes and certain spell effects, or the UI, or 100 other things. There really isn't a way for us to post thousands of things we like or dislike in an easily readable format, and even if there was the chance for abuse is far too great.

True, but I intend to avoid such things. I want to focus more on the lack of depth present in the Guilds (Bards being the worst culpret) and the "stupidity" of the NPC's (Arch Mage and wizards still say "join the Collage"). Issues like that in which I am certain most players will agree is a problem or irratence.

Realize that you don't know the constraints they were under. You're not taking into account the limitations on the three platforms that they produced this game for. You don't know what they had, but had to remove for the sake of getting the game out.

Your "short guild" I guess refers to how small the number of REQUIRED quests there are in a guild line. In each guild line there are radient quests that allow the user to dictate how many quests they do. If you choose to do zero of them, you give up all rights to complain it was too short.

Exagerating a problem (Every NPC is essential) is only going to get your message ignored. Put it in objective terms, like 25 out of the 150 NPCs in the game... or what ever the number actually is.

I'm going to post my first section on the Guilds soon, just adding in a few more details. Maybe then people will be enticed to help out and give me some ideas/suggestions to include.

Yes, not to mention that if people post their opinions, problems, suggestions, etc. here, there's no way to distinguish a nitpicky problem that *one* person has versus a widespread issue that *many* people have. It's just a list.

From a software developer point of view, it's better to scour this forum (among others) to see repeat occurrences of opinions, problems, suggestions, etc. and deal with those. They've mentioned they do this already. Hopefully we'll see bugs addressed in future patches and feature requests in future games of TES.

Thanks for the tip, but the point is more to intice Bethesda to include such changes or fixes into an upcomming patch or even slip it into a DLC. And your guild point is valid, I have done the radiant quests for both the thieves guild and Dark Brotherhood, but hey are lacking for the Companions, Mages, Bards and even the civil war factions.

Yes, i'm sure the brilliant minds of beth never considered these things. In fact, you might as well submit a resume with your "letter to beth" they might want to higher you as their new CEO and you can be the savior of the elder scrolls serise and prevent the company from going bankrupt. Then, all the fans in the serise will make you their new idle, and you'll become a gaming god.

Everyone will want to interview you and you'll be talked about on every gaming website. Then people will write books about you and you'll do semanares on how to turn game compaines around.

And then after you made your billions, holloywood will make a movie about how you started your career from simply writing a letter to beth about their oversites, something no one ever considered, and thus became the a billionare gaming god of the world. After you die they will make a staute of you at beth gaming studios and your great mind and thoughts will be written in stone forever.

The End.

Is that really something you need to send a letter to Bethesda about? I'm sure you could post it on Bethesda's official forum. You'll probably find it if you google it...

Hi there Pres_Eden! Hope you're doing great.

It's a commendable effort from your part to bother to write a lengthy essay. Do not worry too much about whether they will read it or not: ultimately, it's out of your control. However, if, as it appears, your aim is to be read rather than be provocative, I do have a few simple suggestions: Include a catchy essay title; include a short opening summary; give topics interesting names; be as specific as you can be; and lastly, stress the soutions, not the problems.

Courage my friend.
