Do you care about trophysachivements?

Post » Fri May 04, 2012 12:22 am

As a few people stated, achievements/trophies can often give you the incentive to play a game in a way you normally wouldn't think of. They can be a great way of getting a few extra hours out of a game. For example, Just Cause 2 had some really fun achievements that involved you killing enemies in various inventive ways such as attaching a tank to a helicopter and using it as a wrecking ball.

What do i care till i get rewarded for the achievement, oh thats right my reward is the satisfaction of getting to look at an achievement icon and and say to my freinds i achieved a pointless icon. The day theres a decent reward is the day ill care, otherwise, its another line of text and another link to a group of icons that are useless.

Nope, don't care at all. Steam or a publisher telling me a game has so-many achievements as some kind of selling point is completely wasted on me. Heh

But I can understand they can give some motivation to keep playing etc. Just isn't the kind of thing that motivates me.

Do I care? No.

Do I find some of them fun to get? Yep.
Pretty much this. Some are just fun things, or a challange you want to set yourself.

I will enjoy the tears when people have a new console come out, unless they carry over, in which case. It will just show how sad some people are.
Its pointless, a bit of fun some of them, but lots of people take them too seriously.

I do enjoy some of the challenges developers come up with (such as sending the gnome into space in HL2), but I couldn't care less about the developer awarding me an imaginary trophy, and slapping me on the back and saying, "Congratulations. You achieved something!"

No, I didn't. I'm sitting on my ass playing a video game. That's the exact opposite of achievement. I find the whole thing condescending. If I want a sense of achievement, I'll go do something real.

No. I don't see the [censored] point behind them, and I don't know why so many people have such an obsession with them.
I personally don't see why some people have a problem with them. They are in essence optional objectives for the game, what's wrong with that?

This. I like the challenge of getting them, but I don't care if someone has less or more than me.

I don't buy a game for achievements and I don't want them at all on PC. But on PS3, I do tend to get them either while playing or when I get bored with whatever I'm playing. I wouldn't miss them if they were gone though.

Edit: I think EvilFish just won this thread. lol

In some sense I do I guess. I like to get and collect them. But do I judge other users on PSN by how many trophies they have? No.

I don't care about gamer score, but they can be fun to try for, like any goal in a game.

Pretty much this. They suggest things I might have overlooked myself, and that keeps me playing. I always take a look at the list of achievements you can get for a game, though I don't care about the score I get. The only people likely to see it won't care either.

Sometimes I will go for an achievement or trophy just because the name of it might be witty or something... The challenge might be worthy of my try-hardness.. Or maybe i'm just bored.

Other than that I'm not much of a hunter for these things.

EDIT: But, I do not feel like I've accomplished a game unless I got 30/50 (or roughly half) of the trophies/achievements of games I play.

I like a challenge, but the trophy/achievement is not the draw. It's the quest, the journey, that's what I want.

This. To me achievements are a waste of time. You fell 65 feet without dying, Here's your achievement. That's all I got for falling 65 feet without dying? :flame:

Now if you got in game items for doing the achievements then they might actually be worth doing.

My problem with them is that a lot of games use achievements in lieu of actual content, and customers actually believe they're getting more with them.

Not really, but sometimes i might try to get the odd one. What annoys me is ones you get for stupid things like completing tutorals and doing easy stuff.

A little bit.

I don't buy games for achievements, but once I have the game I will try and go after them. I don't think I have ever gotten every achievement in a game nor have I ever really tried to. The game that is the worst for me is Killing Floor. Once I beat a map and get the achievement I have a hard time going back and playing that map again. WHy should I spend that much time and effort when I don't get anything out of it. :glare:

In some respects. But other games let you see just how much content there is. Look at RDR for example. Only about 5-8 trophies come from the Main Story itself.

Not really. If I really like a game then I will try to get the achievements just out of a sense of prolonging the life of the game and for more [censored] to do. I have like a 23,000 gamerscore though that is because I play a lot of games. Not necessarily going for achievements. I think I have like two games with all the achievements. Oblivion and Fallout 3.

I just view gamerscores as a measurement for how much people play.

That said, mine is really really low. I don't own alot of xbox games. Was embarrassing to see people with 40,000+ scores to my teeny weeny 1k back when I played on live all the time.

The only time I cared about achievements was Tomb Raider: Underworld.

on action games they give some cool bonus objectives, like hitting 20 people with the bio bomb in prototype 2. I mostly don't go out of my way to get them, but it is cool when you unlock them i guess

I don't much care for them, but they're a fun timekiller. Like Solitaire, but with less cards and more trying to do silly things.

But do you think they are completely useless just because some games do that?
