Do you decorate your house at all?

Arg!!! Was this the "before" picture!!

lol, nope! I swear you just need to drop everything first and exit then renter the building. Have a look a my "liquor cabinets". These have been set like this for probably 100 hours of gameplay and never, ever moved.

Incidentally, the three flagons you see, are the elusive White-Gold Tower, Cliff-Racer, and Velvet LeChance that Talen-Jei carries on him. ;)

It looks like you have bars and bars of gold, even though I'm sure it's something else than gold.

It's gold. I have probably 20k worth of gold ingot in my Proudspire home. So much so that I am working on a vault room to store it all. Though, I do not look forward to moving them all to it! Will probably take an hour or more of very annoying placements, but you get the hang of it.

What else do you think they could be? Corundum or something? Transmute spell and a couple of iron mines is fantastic combo.

Yeah I do. I like put stuff like Dwemer bowls and books on the tables and stands. Then, there's also the odd statue of Dibella here and there...

Yes I still persist in doing that, though it is a headache. I'd hoped they'd have fixed it by 1.4.

Most things will stay put eventually, if you place them four or five times (and save and reload).

I tried to decorate the legion barracks in Solitude as well because I hang out there at night instead of the inn, but it wouldn't have it. I picked up all the plates and roasted slaughter fish that were on the floor and placed new items but it just reset them all again. It's a fairly serious bug, I don't know why they haven't fixed it.

Is there a key for "grip" or "hold" so an item can be placed? I can't find one and if I just drop it from my items it never stays. Other games I've played have the hold key.

Yeah, once it is dropped, put your cursor over it and hold the grab button four a couple secs.

Oh, sorry. On xbox 360, when you put your cursor on an object, an on screen instruction pops up with "Press A to take" or something like that. Just hold A for an extended time instead of the normal press and release.

edit: I am not very observant today, you already told about xbox :/

I de-decorate. Whenever I get a house I take away everything but the essentials. I am obsessed with having a spartan home both in and out of the game. it's kind of like reverse hoarding.

I've decorated all of my houses to one extent or the other. Sometime's it work's the way I want sometimes it don't.

http://i1254.photobucket.com/albums/hh611/Trace9569/HPIM1251.jpg Honeyside, I just started decorating so their isn't much their yet. 3 neckless's on nearside bed table, butterfly in a jar on the far side, and 2 claw's on the table at the foot of the bed, in this pic.

http://i1254.photobucket.com/albums/hh611/Trace9569/HPIM1093.jpg Markarth house, I added more to the area, had no problems

http://i1254.photobucket.com/albums/hh611/Trace9569/HPIM1150.jpg Helmet collection in Breezehome, The only thing I had a problem with is the Dwemer Helmet, it would be on the floor every time I came through the door, I finally traded it for a different helemt and that one stayed put.

I did do alot more decorating than this, I just didn't take pic's of it all. The Dibella statue was a royal pain to get to face the way I wanted it to but I only had to re-place it once...thankfully!

I actually didn't know there were gold ingots. I normally sell all my ingots since I do not do any smithing with this character.

It's the E button. Placing it over a cup and pressing E puts it in your inventory. Placing it over a cup and pressing + holding E grabs it and it hovers before you, allowing you to place it wherever.

If someone releases a Skyrim version of Oblivion's "Decorator Assistant" mod, I would probably try to spruce up the place a bit, but it's too much hassle now.

Awesome collections there, especially those creepy skulls in the Markarth house.
Also, how on Nirn did you get your butterfly to stand perfectly? My luna moth keeps doing rolls in the air when I pick it up and I had to settle with placing it on the side.

Yea, I LOVE to decorate. That's why I buy every house! I spent hours and hours in Oblivion to decorate and remember, you didn't have the "auto" bookshelves there. I had to manually put the books up. BUT, the books didn't have the weird physics either. They stayed closed in OB. I feel decorating in Oblivion was way easier though. First of all, the stuff stayed in place and it was easier to rotated and/or slide it around on a surface.

It takes all my patience to decorate in Skyrim. I still do it though. It usually takes me twice, but it all eventually stays in place. I need to do the drop items and leave the house thing. LOL

If you put enough stuff down, it stays

http://journeyofbokou.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/skyrimhoarding2.jpg

Woah, I'm surprised they haven't featured you on one of the "Hoarders - Buried Alive" shows hahahaha

I decorate like crazy.

Tip:

1. Make one pass around your home, dropping things on the floor near where you want to put them. Drop a bunch of stuff.
2. Exit the home.
3. Reenter the home.
4. Pick things up and arrange them, but do not put them into your inventory. If you put them in the inventory by mistake, you'll have to go back to step 1 for that item only.

This will let 99% of your items stay put where you eventually place them. Some items just wont stay put (Balbus' Fork comes to mind) but most of your stuff will behave.

Here is a great example. These stay put:
http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/614973792772592874/293A6CD87B584CDD5E49DA8F39044C8E8A1E4146/

Wow, how LONG did it take you to arrange all these bricks???????? NICE!

That works, you just have to do it right:

Oh sparkly! I love it!

When I pick it up I drag it along the vertical side of what ever surface I am going to put it on. The jar for whatever reason wanted to be lidside down, that was actually harder for me. Just don't pick it up to far over the surface, it'll start to tilt. btw that bedside dresser was easier than the table in Breezehome, because of the small space between it and the chest.
