Do you decorate your house at all?

Post » Mon Jun 11, 2012 12:12 pm

Thanks to some weird issue, any item you bring into your house and drop gets reset to the same spot where you dropped it, even though you may have moved or rotated it.

Because of this, do you decorate at all? And is there any way around this problem?

not until they fix the broken system.

I try not to touch things, they have a tendancy to bounce off walls and kill me.

I love decorating, even though the falling items annoy me.
I put some interesting food on the table, round items or gems in that Proudspire near-the-bed thingy, statues and claws on shelves...
It's all a big mess later but the process of decoration is fun.

I have a nice sized pile of Skulls and Troll Skulls on the floor in the extra room in Proudspire.

What? My Orc likes to take trophies... :whistling:

I do miss decorating in this game. My Nuka Cola truck collections in FO3 and FONV were impressive.

Although, I do use bookshelves, the armor dummies and the weapon racks, plaques, and display cases.

I did try to fill up the trough like container in Hjerim with jemstones. The just ended up on the floor.

I decorate like crazy.

Tip:

1. Make one pass around your home, dropping things on the floor near where you want to put them. Drop a bunch of stuff.
2. Exit the home.
3. Reenter the home.
4. Pick things up and arrange them, but do not put them into your inventory. If you put them in the inventory by mistake, you'll have to go back to step 1 for that item only.

This will let 99% of your items stay put where you eventually place them. Some items just wont stay put (Balbus' Fork comes to mind) but most of your stuff will behave.

Here is a great example. These stay put:

If you drop something in your home then go outside then go back inside and place that item somewhere and then go outside again the item should stay in the location you put it. I've noticed that this only works 80% of the time for me. I have 5 Dibella statues in my bedroom and one of them keeps falling.

You can drop a bunch of stuff then leave and come back and decorate and leave again and it should all stay in place.

Yes if you do it right things will stay put. I put out specialty items like the insect jars and statues. I also use the mannequins and weapon displays.

I dont spend much time on it, but I focus on filling bookshelves with great books, and keeping weapons/armor displayed on all possible areas.

occasionally ill drop an item somewhere and after a cpl times moving it into place it'll stay there on the next spawn. Sometimes I just give up.

It's quite sad I can't decorate my home with all the things Im allowed to collect.

for instance:
I put a lantern and iron pot from my shelf, into a cupboard and put pieces of a broken blade i found out near some random spot not on my map. I came back sometime later and a different kind of pot, and lantern were spawned on the shelf, and the sword pieces were on the floor. I then just put the sword on the table below the shelf and it stayed there on the next visit.

It'd be cool if they fixed the bugs involving putting items on shelves and tables and stuff..my garlic band doesnt ever respawn, but my iron pots will magically move from cupboard to shelf lol.

Yeah, if you drop, leave, come back and decorate, it MOSTLY works. My gray fox bust and model ship keep falling over, but everything else is okay. Well, after 1.4 my weapon plaques started making the weapons float in the middle of the room.

I have tried. Man have I tried.

My first attemp was to line some skulls on the fireplace mantle and put helmets over them. After working on this for over an hour I was happy and left the house. Well I should have took a picture cause when I came back the skulls and helmets were laying all over the place.

Last thing I did was very simple. Clear off the table in Whiteruns home and add 3 ale bottles and the dragon grave location map. I swear everytime I leave and come back that map is on the floor under the table. After about ten times of this happening I just gave up.

I did get a butterfly in a jar to finally stay on a shelf (it did fall a couple times). But that's it.

At this point I just give up. I will not even try to add anything unless it is set in a pre-designed rack or wall mount. Heck I've even had things jump out of the display cases!

It is very maddening though. I decorated my houses in MW alot. Loved doing it. OB was a lot harder but you could manage. Skyrim is just impossible. I guess I should be thankful that they at least gave us maniquines and racks to use.

I have constant problems with my Dibella statues too. It seems like I have to place them out of the way, where my housecarl/spouse won't knock them over, AND I have to place them somewhere where no other item spawned. Otherwise they fall over, or end up somewhere across the room. Or, like at Proudspire, somehow travel from my bedroom to the first floor entryway.

Besides that issue, I have had good luck with drop, leave, enter, & place method. I was able to line the shelves of Honeyside with mead bottles this way, and they're all still in place.

Lol I wish I could.

It was one of my favorite features from Morrowind and Oblivion, I love displaying what I have acquired in the game world and setting up my house to suit my characters needs.
I tried setting up my home and then everything ends up in the floor things tend to mave on their own and my Dibella statue seems to disappear if its set out, so I keep everything of mine in chest.

Yes, I cleared one table off for Daedric quest items and another for Dibella statues.

I loot the alchemy ingredients and fill the weapon racks+bookcases. I don't change anything else.

Weapons don't just float around in houses; I see them all of the time floating in the air, outdoors. When I slay someone, I make sure to put their loose weapons inside their "corpse", so the weapons will despawn with the body, but I still see flying weapons when I travel along the roads.

Perhaps it's Skyrim's high altitude?

That works, you just have to do it right:

I'm guessing that they have to add more loot through the windows? I can just imagine Lydia walking around through that, if she's not buried underneath.

I'm on 360 so I can't post a pic, but I dropped a bunch of paper rolls around the house and now it looks like a pot heads play ground.

It looks like you have bars and bars of gold, even though I'm sure it's something else than gold.

That would be great if you could take your coins and trade them in for bars of gold so you could collect the bars of gold.
