Do you pay to train?

Post » Wed Jun 06, 2012 5:28 am

Sometimes i do depending on what it is. I always get a kick out of it with the hope of learning some secret technique by some master trainer or even a lousy one that has one single fabulous technique in his repertoire.

Why is it cheap? If you can open up a book and get a skill bump from it, being taught by a level-appropriate expert seems fine to me.

I only buy training when I'm about to get a perk I want but need another point or two, or in later levels when it's hard to level otherwise.

Certain skills, yes. Restoration is slow to level naturally and so is speech so they get some gold trown at them.
Also: Since high level training is expensive as hell I don't believe it is very cheap.

I think its cheap as well. why?

because in Skyrim you can actually be trained in realtime with Most of the skills.

[...]

Ja, I prefer these. They not only add quantitatively, but also qualitatively, to the game. But I see how some players might not want to involve themselves in real-time training sessions, so I'm glad the other option's there, too. There should have been more real-time 'training montages', though ...

Just near the end when I already had my main skills at 100 and I wanted to get restoration up.

It's expensive if you train at 70+ or 80+ to 90. You'll spend more than 20k gold just to raise the skill by 5 levels. But it's easy to get money in Skyrim even without cheating and one way is by completing the Thieves Guild quests.

I do not agree with the way the armor trees level myself, sitting there and taking hits is just stupid ,it is really stupid if you are a stealth archer.

Not cheap at all actually...rather expensive at times.

We pay to train in real life (whether it be for a scholastic education, athletics, music, etc) so why not in-game?

I get paid for study :P Should do the same in the game.. The trainer gives me 1.2k septims for me training.. Good marketing.. "I trained the dragonborn in the art of speech!" :P

^This.

Training can be a great gold sink.

I enjoy staying close to being broke most of the game. This way it's a bit more exciting when I find gold or valuable items.

I have hoarded lots of dragon bones and jewelry I can sell in a pinch, but for the most part every time I earn around 4-5k gold from clearing out a few dungeons, I spend the majority on ingots, healing potions and training.

Pay for something I can get on my own for free? Nonsensical.

Some mage skills, yes. Some are a bit indirect in combat to level consistently.

I don't know why it's cheap. It's not like it isn't realistic. Paid training exists.

In Morrowind I did, due to the combat system. I didn't like swinging and missing, and Block only levelled when you used it, and you only used it when the level was high...

Oblivion and Skyrim I don't. I feel I train well enough without needing to train. Maybe someday if I need to get a skill up that raises with only sertain encounters, like Speech, but maybe.

Depends on the skill but once I get above 30 I always do the 5 per level training.

I only use trainers if I run into one that I actually want to train better (like whatever weapon style im using or armor). Then I steal it back, or kill them

In Oblivion I always did that. I had the 5/5/5 thing down to a T and used trainers a lot to achieve that, especially on restoration since it was SOOO slow to level.

I'm thinking it's not needed and you level up quickly enough?
Come again at lvl 65.
At that point it's a drag to waste time using crap skills on high leveled enemies to level them up, so it's easier to just waste money on training.
Besides, what else you gonna do with all that money?

In oblivion i would do this every level because of how screwy the leveling system was. Worst part was going through an oblivion gate and leveling up on the other side - any skill increases you got after level-up would be lost until you could get out and get to a bed.

You can pretend that any of these is actually what is going on... if you have any imagination. You're welcome to make any rules you want. Make it so you have to actually clean the bathroom every time you train. That's the ultimate in RPG.

By the time I hit level 50 I had over 150k gold, and I had been spending it liberally. I own all the purchasable homes in Skyrim, so training my skills to speed up the leveling process is the best use of my gold.

For skills that raise slowly trough "natural" use, such as light armor with my assassin, who doesn't tend to get hit a lot.
