Do you pay to train?

Post » Tue Jun 05, 2012 6:08 pm

For some reason it feels cheap.

I'm thinking it's not needed and you level up quickly enough?

I began with it after reaching level fifty to speed up leveling after that. And its not that money could be spent on better things then this anyway.

Not cheap at all actually...rather expensive at times.

We pay to train in real life (whether it be for a scholastic education, athletics, music, etc) so why not in-game?

After 250+ hours at level 62 I can honestly say that there's just no other way to reach higher levels in some skills unless you plan on abandoning your character concept for skills that you'd otherwise not use. I generally only train in my off-skills such as Restoration or Alteration that complement my thief build nicely. The other magics that I don't use I'll end up paying to train at some point as well I suppose but I usually stay away from training my primary skills unless I need just 1 or 2 levels for that next perk.

I think its cheap as well. why?

because in Skyrim you can actually be trained in realtime with Most of the skills.

Archery? theres a woman name agni who gives REALTIME training with practice dummies in the mountains AND you get level raises for each task you complete, scripted like a real training session.

Destruction? the "duels" you are challanged to

Alteration? a Student asks you to raise a barrier and take a few fire balls so he can learn how its done

One handed/two handed? rmeember first initiation to Companions how you make a few strikes against Vilkas? bewm

Sneaking, pickpocketing, lockpicking? Brynolfs first task when you first meet him.

Enchanting and Smithing? ever see the option how do you enchant or need help and the forge? come the hell on.

WHY aren't these more common? and replace the -Menu- press ok, spend gold, magical level up.

sometimes I do... Normally if I pass by a trainer, I usually don't search for them. Also skills like stealth, lockpicking and speech I tend to train a bit more, just because they are so slow to train out in the wild.

I do, but it depends how much gold I got. If I got 5,000 in gold, sure I buy all 5 plans. Unfortunately every step up you take cost more and more. But if you got the gold why not?

For some skills. I find myself doing in quite a bit for my two hand magically inept berserker to raise his heavy armor skill. I tried just letting things beat on me but then I get bored with it and end up killing tthem. I don't really have extended fights with him, either he kills things quickly or they kill him quickly.
Alchemy I also have a tendecy to train as it is so slow making potions that are so bloody heavy but I can't ever seem to make myself sell them.

As a general rule, no I don't pay to train. I have however, paid to train on occasion, but that's few and far between when I do that.

I sometimes do but mostly early on when it doesn't cost so much; of course, you have more money later too though. I like to level slowly so I don't do it unless it's something I really need.

I did to get my heavy armour rating up from 66 to 70 for the perk, so that I can finally get around to using daedric armour without harsh consequences as a thief.

And every time I trained, I quit out, equipt my +30% pickpocketing gloves and stole the money back

Yes, I do, because it's free ^^. Pay the price, then crouch behind the trainer and pickpocket the money you just gave him XD It's also a great way to level pickpocket (plus due to a glich it sometimes resets, to the point where you can for example get lv15->lv50 archery -and about the same in pickpocketing- before you even enter Riverwood XD)
If the trainer is your companion you don't even have to pickpocket them - they will kindly trade all the gold back to you :P

Rarely. Raising skill naturally hasn`t been an issue for me so far.

Always, after level 50. I want to reach level 81 but I don't want to change my playstyle.

PS: paralyze helps if you can't pickpocket for your life.

For sure, why not. I like how Bethesda took out the grind. Props.

I only trained from someone in Windhelm. After that I said no thanks. I did train in OB and Morrowind. Mostly cuz I got rich and spent my money on that. Now I am broke and low level so nope not training.

I kind of thought (and wanted) the training system to be more realistic.

I don't pay to train, my character does. And, as such, it depends on the character. Some of my characters are more social (and more inclined to accept instruction) than others.

Overall, I don't see it as cheap at all. Maybe that's because I'm a roleplayer. It makes roleplaying sense to find other characters in the game world and learn from them. It is what most of us do in real life.

I do, which is where the vast majority of the money I make from selling crafted goods goes. In fact, I'll be raising the number of sessions allowed per level once the CK comes out, so that I'll have something on which to spend the insane amounts of money I always end up with from said crafting once I can make the best stuff.

I pay to train the skills I don't use. This evens out the leveling on enemies. I end up with a surplus of perk points cause my main skills aren't high enough to use them.
