Do you think we will see any more patches beyond 1.5?

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 12:01 am

Here's what will happen (and you should write this down somewhere so you can quote me later): We will see one... maybe two more patches after 1.5 is finalized. Then, we will get another patch for issues in whatever 'Shivering Isles' sized expansion Beth makes. Obviously, this would be a year or more from now. This expansion patch will be the final patch, even though a huge number of issues will still remain.

Why do I say this? Because this is exactly what they did with Oblivion. There are a number of issues that Beth either refuses to acknowledge or just doesn't know how to fix. They will pretend these issues don't exist. Realistically, I believe the real talent behind Skyrim have moved on to other projects. What they contribute to the patching process is minimal and not a high priority. The guys doing the patches are Beth's 'B-Team'... not the sharpest knives in the drawer.

I think we'll see a few more patches, but not many. I really dont think they would put an expansion on hold just to push out patchs, they're no doubt working on both.

Same for me, and that is the only reason i haven't gone back to Oblivion. Oblivion runs on the Performansicide CRASH engine

On topic, atleast there'll be patches to prepare the game for the eventual DLCs. Though i must say Bethesda seems to care much more about patching Skyrim than their previous games.
I honestly believe that its because Fallout New Vegas did not do as well as their other games. And they are trying to remove the mud from their name.

If it came out 11-11-11 then 4-11-12 is 6 months sense it was released.

They may be working on both but there is no doubt that the expansion is going to cause more bugs. Thats why I think they are trying to patch up the stock game the best they can before releasing DLC.

Oblivion only got to 1.2, and Morrowind was 1.2 before it's expansions. How can we be mad that Bethesda has made such strides forward in their QA department? Maybe some of you weren't around or forgot, but there were plenty of game-breaking bugs around for both of these "untouchable" games even when the patching season was over and done with. 4 1/2 months in and they've advanced this game to the 1.5 stage, so I'm extremelly pleased with their work so far. All indications to me seem that they intend to keep going and to provide further content, so I wouldn't worry about this being the "last" patch by any means. Each DLC will likely bring a slew of fixes and solutions alongside it. As long as the game keeps being worked on, I don't mind if it takes time. Time just improves the quality 8-)

Let's count this out real quick: December, January, February, March, April. Looks like 5 to me. But who's counting?

Maybe he's a binary dude and count the zero?
And, my game is still crashing (DX/graphics driver hang) which sometimes results in a BSOD. So I'm not hoping its "done" yet. It's irregular though. It can crash within 10 seconds after startup, to 10 hours continuous gameplay, but almost guaranteed on levelup (accessing skill menu).

You forgot a month the game came out in november, not december.
P.S. I am counting the day it was released.

The determining factor in my buying any DLC for Skyrim is whether or not I want any mods that rely upon it.

I don't care if they patch the game up to 2.0.

I think the new updating system (using Steam for distribution/Beta testing patches) is working really well and they'll keep doing it as long as possible. They want the game to work great and there's a lot of things that are interconnected with more of that coming adding in the DLC so things have to merge in and work smoothly. Doing the Beta tests on the patches has seemed to help; it's going well with my game and I haven't had problems joining the Beta tests. I think it'll go on for a while. :tes:

According to Pete Hines he tweeted that they have some "cool new surprises" for Skyrim and Rage fans in April. I would probably expect them to announce the new DLC however I wouldn't expect it to be out for another month or so. During that time frame I'd still expect patching to continue. Maybe a 1.6/1.7 version before actual DLC? Hopefully it goes quick and pain free so we can get some DLC .

So are you saying that you have never been reported to the guards by a chicken or that a your follower never blocks doorways ?.
Fus Ro Dah fixed this for me. Never been reported by a chicken though. I've been on 360 since the beginning of december and never have I had any bugs or broken quests.

being the (not-so-proud) owner of FO3, FONV and Skyrim for PS3 I can only hope they aren't done patching. But the pedestrian release cycle and lackluster fixes list doesn't engender much belief they are really making an effort here. A lot of the replies here have been gushing about Beth's hard work and effort to fix this game. I just don't see it.

1.1, day zero (18)
1.2, breaks more than fixes (15)
1.3, fixes what 1.2 broke (7)
1.4, finally some relief for PS3 users - game is reliable and playable 4 months later! (58)
1.5, adds new kill cams that are broken anyway (33)

Actually I think a few of the 1.5 official fixes are for stuff they introduced while developing 1.5. And several things in each patch are still not really fixed (white phial, anyone?)

So while the Beth team has been 'hard at work' they have released about 106 fixes, some of which made things worse, compared to the http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1358353-beta-unofficial-skyrim-patch-thread-2/page__view__findpost__p__20483773

5 months since release and we still have atomic nirnroots, broken autosaves and how about we add in that my controller just doesn't work sometimes. These all since day zero and not even a comment from Beth.. wtf

I would love to think they will keep patching but seeing new (broken) kill-cams coming and still no fixes for more core issue stuff do I think their efforts are well placed? No.

They have gotten to 1.5 but the list of actual fixes is pretty damned short imo, compare to the unofficial patch. I would be pretty embarrassed that the community can fix more than the publisher.

If it seems like they have gotten a lot done since November I would suggest that is primarily because the game was so fscked when they released it. They have just been putting their fingers into the lowest holes in the dike, and we probably will never get them to really improve the game in a meaningful way. If you are impressed by the paltry amount of repair made thus far I think it only reflects on how poorly the game industry operates on the whole.

Ok. Let's do this the easy way. 11-11 to 12-11 = 1 month 12-11 to 1-11 = 2 months 1-11 to 2-11 = 3 months 2-11 to 3-11 = 4 months 3-11 to 4-11 = 5 months
Hmm, looks like 5 months to me.

The game wasn't out for a month on it's release date. That's when it's life began. I wasn't 1 year old the day I was born, was I?

Comparing Bethesda to a group of individuals is hardly realistic. Mod makers and the like don't have a length approval process to go through in order to release their patches and fixes like Bethesda has to deal with.

you shouldn't count April since it just started.. only on the 11th April finnaly "begins" and even than it's just 1 day so it's November+December+January+ February+ March=5 months April is only "completed" on the 11th of May..

Anyway I really hope they're gonna fix the things related to the Civil War (Jarls Family and unkillable camp leaders) and the annoying dialogues (rank related stuff and the people that keep talking to you while you're in a conversation or are trying to overhear one), but my hopes are a bit low right now.

I can not see how this is so hard for you to understand. The game was released 11-11 thats the first day the game came out 4-11 will be 6 months sense the day the game came out its simlple math!

I am not talking about months I am talking about release day, not release month.

Look at it this way:
1 month = approximately 30.5 days
Number of days between 2011-11-11 and 2012-04-11 = 152 days
152 days = 5 month (152/30,5)
