Your thoughts as to why the Emperor was assassinated?

Post » Tue Jun 05, 2012 8:07 pm

Somebody wants to be emperor before the empire collapses. You know the old "by right of assassination." The Romans did it all the time. Six different emperors in one year one time. A lot of the time the Praetorian Guard was in on it. I read nothing more into it than that. Mede II was old and weak, and someone wanted power.

I don't think the Blades had anything to do with it. The DB just got the contract.

Ah good point, I'm starting to realize how many similarities the Roman Empires history has with TES V.

I figure it's just that someone else wants power. ...and for those of you who are asking "why": you're fired. Go back to DB school - if there's a contract you do it - don't ask questions. Oh...and: Hail SIthis!

This could be true since Motierre isn't essential so for the people who kill him Bethesda wouldn't have to resurrect an NPC making it unbelievabler.

Yeah, at first I was skeptic as to why they left it open, I am glad they left it how they did now. Especially after reading everyones thoughts on here, anyone of them would make for a great DLC addon.

Considering how totally indifferent everyone but the Penitus Oculatus were to Titus Mede II's assassination--I think one guard mentioned it in passing once--because they hoped someone with a little spine would take the throne.

Probably won't work, but I'm sure it seemed like a good idea at the time.

I did it, when playing as an Imperial, cause I thought it would be doing the empire a favour. After meeting him in person, I sort of regreted it.

I always regret it... Titus Mede II is a Hero...

I think 'tragic figure' is more accurate.

No. He is a Hero. He, and 3 others, help stop Umbriel from turning Tamriel into Zombie-Land.

That was his father that did that. Mede II, the current emperor, is his son.

No. Titus Mede II is Prince Attrebus. Prince Attrebus's father is Titus Mede I AND it even said in the books that Prince Attrebus is the next Emperor in the line-up, after Titus Mede I. Thus making Attrebus into Titus Mede II.

Attrebus Titus Mede is his full name. I think Titus Mede is actually the whole last name.. Wouldn't be surprise since there are last names like that in the ES Lore.

~Edit~

Or Titus would be like an Emperor name that is used instead of their actually first name.

I'm not so sure Titus Mede II and Attrebus are the same person. He'd be unnaturally old if this were the case, and he wasn't a mage capable of extending his life through magic. It might be that Attrebus ruled for some period of time after his father Mede I, had a son with Annaig who ruled and the family went through a couple more generations before getting to Titus Mede II.

It would help if we had an 4e Imperial succession document in the lore, but we don't to my knowledge so we don't know when Attrebus ruled, for how long, etc.

Annaig is a powerful Alchemist. And it is known that some Alchemists and Mages had created ways to people to live longer lives. Annaig most likely did this for Attrebus.

Both Titus Mede II and Prince Attrebus also have same personality, in some ways.

I some times think that Emperor Titus Mede ll was responsible for his own death, perhaps he told the member of the elder council to assassinate him. Maybe he thought that the only way to defeat the Thalmor was to pass the torch and become a Marty.

That's possible I guess, but it's usually the mage themselves that has their lifetime extended and I've never heard of it working for someone else. So maybe Annaig could still be alive if she was really powerful, but still she wasn't really much of a mage, you don't need magical aptitude to mix potions and poisons.

I'll defer to you on whether their personalities are similar, I've never gotten to that part in the DB, not yet anyways.

He prolly wanted to die, I wont be surprise.

As to above, look up the Emperor Timeline. Some Emperors lived longer than they should. Their Battlemage prolly did something. Hm?

Honostly, he is just wearing the brunt of his father's mistake in dealing with the Aldemeri Dominion. If the AD's ultimatum was met before the war, none of this would've happened. They fought the war, and gave them terms of the WGC anyway. Pretty stupid of the empire if you ask me.

Atleast they fought. It's not so ridiculous when everyone's dead.

I don't understand why anyone would side with the AD. It's basically "Game Over." Not only an end to the story, but an end to the entire TES series.

Unless, that's actually what Thalmor supporters really want. I guess 5 titles in a series is kind of a lot.

Naw, they just want to end the world as we know it.

Admittedly, that sounds pretty cool. I assume it involves a floating death laser.

To pave the way for a new Emperor. The reign of the Mede dynasty ends and instead, the reign of another dynasty begins. Of course that Dynasty being the Dragonborn.

Titus Attrebus Mede. That is his full name. They used his Middle Name when he was the Prince so people doesn't confuse him with his father, Titus Mede I.

Now he is Titus Mede II, since his father is dead.
