Your thoughts as to why the Emperor was assassinated?

Post » Tue Jun 05, 2012 3:25 pm

I think it's just politics. They're probabely trying to kill each other and gain the throne all the time.
Nothing particularly important outside of the usual scheming, probabely to make way for his groups candidate.
And the empire might be better off with the next empress/emporer ruling, they might be stronger and smarter.

This just means some extra dialog about someone else killed the Emperor off-screen.
Like that great line from Thank You for Smoking: "Probably. ...but, hey, it's an easy fix with one line of dialogue: Thank God we invented the - you know - whatever device.".

Do you think that after winning for your respective side, you can get General Tullius/ Ulfric Stormcloak to become Emperor?

Hmmm. Never thought about that.... Well, that would certainly be better than my DRAGONBORN being the Empress. If it turns out that's what Beth has in mind, I could go for it.

Astrid comments that the guy hiring in the DB was using them to "advance his position" or something to that effect, basically saying the Emperor was being assassinated so he could take over (or someone he wants to take over who will favor him in the Council).

Though it's just as easy to chalk it up that Titus Mede II was seen as incompetent and hated by a lot of Nords for the White-Gold concordact, and so removing him was paving the way for someone they felt more pleasing.

First reply quoted, pretty much sums up my thoughts.
That's not to say I didn't like Titus upon meeting him. But hey, business is business.

I hope not. I would prefer to see no more empire.

Like it or not, Celan, the Empire will be around in one form or another. It doesn't simply 'go away'.

And several empires have controlled Europe just not the same ones. :P

Oh, I better stop talking about real-world stuff or my posts will get deleted and my "Warn Status" will go up.

I'm fine with that. Modernity is way, way overrated. Don't tell me you want to see a TES shooter? *prepares fire spell*

Yeah, game creators kinda' have to do that and I'm actually glad they do. Take the Fable series for example, from 1-3 there's been a gradual evolution and I'm concerned that they may evolve the game into something that's less fun for lack of a better word. Fable will lose a lot if it evolves into WW II and beyond weaponry. I suppose they can always do sideways sequels (different place same or earlier era).

I have a similar concern with video game graphics. I'm glad were out of the 16- and 32-bit era, but if the graphics evolve so far that games look like movies filmed in HD I won't like that - I want them to retain some 'cartoonish' visual appearance. :P

That would be far better than MY dragonborn being empress for sure. At least Ulfric might show some mercy. The dragonborn? ....paranoid, does not like to see too much power concentrated in various hands so would probably produce the first communist empire in Tamriel. Dark Brotherhood becomes the "Dragon Guard". No, I'm afraid this would not end well. My successor stands over my grave "Sonja is probably happier here."

IMO I think the writers at bethseda did not think this one through.

It does not make any sense whatsoever to assassinate the emperor when it doesn't involved in the main storyline, the civil war. It has no impact whatsoever so what was the point behind the assassination of the emperor? Right after I killed Titus Mede II and went to windhelm to try to speak with Jarl Ulfric (including Galmar) he didn't even acknowledge the death of the emperor. It was a strong disappointment.

Eh....

Motierre wants Mede II to die to shake up the Politics and cause some well needed reforms.

I didn't regret killing the Emperor (even though I am an Empire Supporter), although I did regret killing
Spoiler
Vittoria Vici.
. She did nothing wrong, in fact she wants unification for both Stormcloaks and Empire (considering she is an Empire supporter and she is supposed to marry an Empire Supporter).

Yadda yadda. A lot of which they stole from the Greeks and the other cultures they pillaged. I also don't consider Roman law to have been an improvement in northern Europe, but that's off topic.

It's a bit jarring, to be sure. My assassin just didn't do the civil war quest line. Not about to be treated like someone's grunt.
