3rd Person Hotkey MMO confirmed

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 4:14 am

Just saw the scans.

Assuming they're not fake, i'm a little disappointed in the style. It's a MMO, so I didn't expect much in terms of graphics quality... but the art style doesn't seem very faithful to the series. Yes, it's a spinoff... but if you're going to go for a different style of fantasy to TES, then why even call it TES?

Aldmeri Dominion? Isn't that a name that only comes to exist a 1000 years later?

Yeah, I thought the Aldmeri Dominion was only somewhat recently founded?(A while before skyrim took place). God, don't ruin the lore.. Well, hopefully this crap isn't accepted as cannon.

Since when does art style = fantasy style?

I could draw TES as chibi characters but it could remain in the same fantasy style in terms of gameplay and mechanics.

First founding was 2E 800 or so. Second founding was 4E 30-something, I think? Either way it shouldn't exist in 2E 500.

Doesn't give an Elder scrolls vibe.

Different from Skyrim, yes - but my best memories of TES are from Arena and Daggerfall - and those look nothing like Skyrim or Oblivion, either.

That article didn't sound (or look) very authentic to me.

The scan I saw is too wide to be a proper page scan.

Of course it does. If you draw a huge, oversized bright blue sword, then draw a realistic looking medieval sword, to me that's different styles of fantasy. One's over the top cheese-fantasy... the other is traditional medieval fantasy.

And yet they could play exactly the same. Art style and game mechanics are not the same thing.

I think that I don't like this, but I'll have to wait for my mind to stop reeling before I can say for certain.

It just looks far too generic, I don't see much that really makes it stand out from the rest of the MMOs on the market. Oh god, horrible feelings, I told you all.

Ah well, guess its best to temper the hype now instead of letting it run rampant.

So is this game designed to appeal to the fans by...being nothing like an elder scrolls game at all and simply coinciding with the lore?

I'm reading about how the hotkey bar is supposed to work, and oddly, the game it reminds the most about is... Diablo 3???
You choose a small subset of your class's abilities and assign them to your hotbar, then can only use those assigned abilities in combat - no swapping or using them from the menu.
"We can just make every ability really cool, and how you build your 'hand' in advance is what defines you."
So a lot like Diablo 3's system of choosing a combination of up to 6 spells, plus there are combos between your and your allies' abilities.

The Nords, Dunmer (Dark Eves) and Argonians make up the Ebonheart Pact. Forming the Aldmeri Dominion are the Altmer (High Elves), Bosmer (Wood Elves) and Khajiit. Finally the Daggerfall Covenant consisting of Breatons, Redguard and Orcs make up the third available alliance.

Looks horrible, thank goodness this won't effect the real games.

Move on folks, nothing to see here. Unless your a big MMO fan this will probably be nothing special and a complete waste of time based on what I've read. Plus the fact its crapping on some of the lore *cough* aldmeri dominion *cough*

Even if the game mechanics are identical, if the art style is drastically different, then its two different styles of fantasy. Fantasy =/= game mechanics
