This thread is depressing as hell, I'm sorry... 3 races, cartoon graphics, hotkey wow clone?... there is no way any of that is true, not a chance in hell, where talking elder scrolls here guys, if bethesda does anything right its consistency and I won't settle for anything less then a graphically stunning first person sandbox, and I'm willing to bet there will be even more races in this game including the dwarves if it takes place as far back as the rumors are saying...

its still 9 races, and not a WoW clone, just a typical fantasy MMO (which is just as bad).

but yeah, meh.

Um these are real scans... most of what has been said is true, Bethesda is not making this. Zenimax online is...

"Another facet of giving players universal access to these powerful defensive capabilities is a moderate break from the traditional tank/healer/damage "holy trinity" of MMO's. Zenimax Online intends for any five reasonably skilled players to be able to forma a group capable of clearing most content."
This sounds very promising :)

I added to it, it's based on faction, so if your faction takes the Capitol, and if you were the most beneficial, then you may be made emperor... there will not be 10,000 emperors running around at one time. AS far as the player character and lore, since when has what your player character done mattered to lore? In oblivion if were made the hero, and also did the dark brotherhood questline... you didn't see lore saying the champion of cyrodiil was also dark brotherhood member. Lore =/= in-game character.

Fixed for you.

Sounds like GW2 set in TES universe. Dynamic events, slightly more complex Hotkey combat, select a set number of skills, weapon swap skills, open world 3 faction combat.

Makes sense considering GW2 was inspired by DOAC, and DOAC lead is lead of this.

WoW and KoA both have cartoony art styles yet KoA doesn't touch the level of cartoony that WoW does, yet they are both high fantasy.

LotR and D&D are also high fantasy and I dare say KoA's magic system better fits to how D&D works.

Final Fantasy, also high fantasy, but doesn't go anywhere near WoW's super cartoon graphics.

Art matters visually. Gameplay is what matters. Gameplay and narrative direct art, not the other way around.
WoW, Final Fantasy, and LOTR are three VERY different styles of fantasy as far as i'm concerned. I don't care if you can technically lump them together under the high fantasy catagory - they're wildly different.

You're right that gameplay is what matters as far as the quality of the game goes, but art dictates the overall look and vibe of the game, which is important too. At least to me. I love the TES style, not the WoW style, or the Final Fantasy style. If you strip all the artwork out of Oblivion and make it look like Final Fantasy, even if the gameplay remains identically the same, to me that would COMPLETELY change the game. It would no longer be TES-style Tolkien-esque fantasy. It would be Japanese anime-style fantasy.

And if you switched Oblivion's art style to D&D's art style (which isn't the same save for being in the "realistic" category) you wouldn't still have the Tolkien-esque fantasy, because D&D and LotR are high fantasy while Oblivion is low. Please keep in mind that the Hobbit/Lord of the Rings cartoon movies still feel like Pete Jackson's LotR movies because of how the world works, they simply have different art styles.

It does sort of doesn't it? A little bit like KoA as well.

Never-the-less, if this is a tab-targetting MMO, I'm out. I played Everquest, DaoC, and WoW for ~10 years all together. I'm not going back to that.

I really don't get the hostility... don't like it, don't play it. Between Oblivion and Skyrim was 5 YEARS, and there likley to work on Fallout 4 before a new ES... so we are looking at another 5 - 7 years probably before a new ES. Look at this MMO as a filler between these times, not a replacement. It's coming out next year, which means that it will likely run 5+ years before a new Single Player ES game. That is a significant amount of time for an MMO, and most fans will be wanting something new by then... MMO's always have to be maintained with new content to keep fans interested, and considering they have been working on this since 2007 (6 years by release) they probably won't be able to complete "The Elder Scrolls Online 2" by that time and that when the Single Player game comes in. Considering of course that the ES Online is successful.

It won't be. It's a copycat MMO that does nothing new. Another body for the pile.

Almost everyone wanted it to be control-combat and free form classes. I can't think of a single person who wanted other wise.

I am disappoint. Why make a game that's already failed before it's even been released?

Well, whom ever said "Let's do what WoW does witha few changes" on the dev team should be fired ASAP.

Huh... not sure if you know what "failed" means.

They should be in line behind the person who thought removing Attributes was a good idea.

There are all the races in the game. Each faction is lead by one race. chill.

I wouldn't use the basis of this forum, as meaning that it will fail... the forum is a small fraction of the entire fan base, and this will likley bring in MMO's fans that have never played a Single Player TES.

No, MMO fans will just stick with WOW as they will see nothing different. Big fail on both sides.

Oblivion isn't low fantasy, it's high fantasy. An example of a low fantasy video game would be something like Darklands.

Anyway, I think we're just going to have to agree to disagree here. I don't really see this argument going anywhere.

Yeah, this MMO's only hope was if it dared to be different. Alas, it stayed the same. Not to say it will be a bad game, I'm sure the Devs did a superb job, and should be proud. I just can't see this being anything besides.....a novelty.....
