My biggest complaint is people who have no idea what a TES game is like and then continually spam the forums with their pet idea that the game "needs" to have.

The map. I would have liked a map that looked like a map made from parchment that had roads on it that you could see. As if a cartographer had created it instead of a magic eye of (forget what you call it) that has taken a snapshot of the world.

Conversations. Using the mouse pointer to try and select a response. Accidently threatening a guard instead of being civil or accidently repeating responses you've already previously selected.

I have yet to find a good spell vendor. Or find good tomes. At lvl 18 now and the spells I have do get stale. Also, I hate the lockpicking minigame, so an Unlock spell would be great. Apart from that... not much.

For me its companions and horse behavior.

Horses still act very dumb in this game. Bethesda still hasnt done horses right I think. And companions shouldnt die forever but instead should respawn at their point of origin or a point that you can set as their respawn point.

leeeettsss seeee now

1.) unable to name potions and poisons

2.) map does not show major roads, and the zoom function is negligible

3.) no inventory sorting (weight, value)

4.) unmovable NPCs

5.) arrows seem to disappear after certain range of distance traveled when fired

6.) lighting within ancient crypts (the place is ancient how is there still a bunch of burning torches?)

7.) no indicator of if forlorn person on the road is friendly or hostile

9.) spells at higher levels damage seem to taper off

10.) skill trees are annoying to sift through (even on xbox)

11.) races such as khajiit(or any that are not Human) are treated "special" regardless of the fact that NPCs of the same race are not allowed in cities or despised

12.) some faction quests are very short and many NPC still treat you as if you are bottom tier of a faction regardless of being at the top

13.) no other way to complete quests other then combat (as in you can't negotiate or find another solution)

14.) clairvoyance does not work properly in the outside world (not in small instanced areas)

15.) if caught committing a crime even though you have no weapon out you may be assaulted and forced to take out your weapon to put it back again and still be beat upon for a little longer till the submission is accepted.

to name a few ^^ don't get me wrong I enjoy the game but Jesus these things annoy me.

Embalming Tools commonly found around in houses, dungeons etc. It bothers me really
And no Tailoring type of Craft for cloth wearers because you will find tons of Cloth Bolts
Scroll crafting for Spells... tons of Parchment Papers found

Im Imp legate and yet some soldiers call me citizen and tell me to get lost.. (wearing full imp armor.)

guards instantly know when u done something, and it feels like whole city are attacking u..lol

was talking to a stablemaster and suddenly he start to shout at me and telling me to get lost, apparently i was now trespassing because clock had passed 12.. guards started to chase me for a bounty of 5 gold..lol

lack of armor rack to display armors in house

character sheet where i can see what guilds im in and rank

able to see what dieseases i have conflicted

bad inventory

And my dream is that i can be commander of a fort or a city, to be able to improve it, hire soldiers train them equip them apoint officers and so on...

i loved Morrowind, oblivion was god. skyrim is ok, but there is something thats not right, dont know what.. dont get the same feeling..

* odd patches of my local map disappearing even though i've travelled through the section before (the area around my house disappeared at least once...).

* and yes - not having a character sheet!! i don't need a class (though i miss NPCs' references to my class) but seeing buffs & diseases, and factions & ranks, is pretty basic in anything calling itself an RPG. okay, you can find your buffs after at least four clicks and some scrolling, but i haven't found the others anywhere....

* general horrible-ness managing off-hand weapons or spells. dual-wield was bragged about so much in the trailers and interviews, i was really excited about it being implemented well. but.... not seeing the off-hand weapon is bad enough, but no hotkeys? having to right-click the mouse while left-clicking to attack with both weapons? blech. two-handed weapons don't have to be swung by pressing both mouse buttons at once, right?

* like many have said, navigating through the UI on PC is just plain annoying

* the interface font! it is waaay immersion-breaking! thanks to previous mentioner for not making me feel like a lonely nerd. :D

The entire game. Already uninstalled it and moved on.

I THINK THE GAME IS BRILLIANT
but there are those little things.

The big one is the Menus system design and UI they are just awful you would have got better if it had been done as a school project not a game that sold over £1 billion in the 1st week.
Not being able to move NPC is a one I agree with its crazy lazy programming
The horses drive me crazy I spend more time trying to keep my kamikazi horse alive then killing the Dragons.
The delays in combat and getting of my horse I got ambushed by a bacon three or may be a bear and it killed me before I could get of my off horse and get my hands out my pockets.
Some of the ambient sound effects in dungeon really are bad with 5.1 I have had to turn the Bass of its acuostic torture.
The spell muffle that help you sneak make so much noise every guard mob and zombie comes straight for you its seems to have a taunt as they ignore followers and Atronach.
Quest items that you dont have quest for and you cant store they have weight so you end up carrying more and more dead weight around.
I would like a lighter pickaxe make it worth while to carry.
The very small range and often inappropriate speech emotes NPC and Followers have.
The crappy 3D map what idiot decided to include 60% cloud cover the idea of a map is to show routes we need to travel not predict the weather.
You can't jump when you are sprinting

My biggest complaint about a small thing so far is that manipulation objects is so much worse than it was in oblivion (and the fallout games.)

I'm taking about the "Hold E to physically pick up and move around" thing. It used to be the Z key, but that key is used for shouts and stuff now. (thanks controllers for not having enough buttons :P) Not only is the "hold E" thing awkward, objects don't seem to follow the same rules that they did in previous games.

In Oblivion if you aimed the crosshair at the spine of a book and then "picked it up" with the Z key, the center of gravity would be focused where your cursor had been positioned on the book. (this worked for all items not just books, books are just the example). This allowed for careful manipulation and the ability to rotate/flip/turn objects.

In Skyrim it seems like the focal point of an object is always just the center of it, regardless of where you physically "grabbed" it. This makes it nigh impossible to manipulate objects in the same way we could before. Not to mention some objects have dangling parts now, books will flip open and a skulls jaw will flop around, for example.

In the end, this is a tiny thing. But a big part of these games for me has been collecting things from out in the world to display in my home, I liked the freedom we had in the previous games to manipulate things. They did add things like Weapon racks and bookshelves, but they only hold a tiny amount of objects. For the rest of the stuff I want to place it takes far longer to get it all looking just right becuase of the way things work now.

It makes me sad :(

The things that bother me the absolute most:

1. HORRIBLE shadows. The worst shadows I've ever seen in a video game, ever.

2. Z-fighting issue (mountain snow LOD flickers); this happens only for some users (and I'm one of them) and there is no workaround or fix that we users can do, it completely destroys the "visual experience" of travelling in the open vistas: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IUHvV80xEbQ

These are not little things though, but major "visually game breaking" issues.

Just a few small things for me, but nothing game-breaking:

1) Unable to name my creations -
From potions to enchanted items, I just wish that was still in Skyrim. I had so many unique weapons in OB, and now I miss them.

2) Companions (followers) AI -
My follower, Lydia, likes to randomly stop while we travel the roads together. She'll stay frozen in place for about 10 seconds before running to catch up to me. Half a minute later, she does it again. It really svcks when I'm getting ambushed by a bunch of enemies, because I waste all my potions defending myself, only to turn around and see her come up after the battle it over. Also, their pahtfinding is terrible. I hop down a tiny little ledge, and she has to run halfway around the mountain just to find a way to get near me.

3) The "surrendering" system -
When commiting a crime, I have to draw my weapon, and then sheathe it in an attempt to show them I surrender. Not only does it not make sense, but it rarely ever works. I have to run away from the Hold on a 40g bounty, because no one likes to give me a second chance.

Everything else in Skyrim is perfect. ^_^

Probably going to repeat some stuff here, and I realize some of this is more in the "suggestions" category, but to be honest, it bothers me that they didn't implement it! :)

No mounted combat:
It's really annoying having to dismount to deal with every damn wolf.

Irrational animal behaviour:
Wolves will abandon a newly killed rabit to chase me. Real wolves will never abandon a meal to go chasing new prey.
Rabbits, foxes and elk/deers keep running in front of me.

Inefficient stables:
You can't park a horse anywhere. If a dragon lands near the stables, your horse is going there to defend the city (or as I like to call it: To feed the dragon).

Cool new spells, but... Magic seems less cool:
You can't make your own spells anymore, and a lot of spell-types seems to have been removed. This was one of the coolest features in the previous elder scrolls games.

Bows being the only ranged weapons:
I LOVE crossbows and javelins. Javelins are very viking like, and while you CAN be disarmed, you can't throw your weapon. A shame..

While I like being able to move stuff by holding down action...:
I would love to be able to pick things up, without bagging them. It would look better I think.

Less free movement that we had in oblivion:
In oblivion the characters could learn to super jump and could do cool acrobatic moves. In skyrim, all you get is a silent forward roll.

Not being able to climb anything:
You can't even climb ladders unless they lead out a trap door. Being able to climb mountain sides, trees, walls and the like would be super cool. Seems stupid standing next to a 5 ft wall, and not being able to climb it.

Companions can't ride horses:
Makes travelling annoying.

Slow horses:
The horses are too slow. Horses are some of the fastest land-animals on earth. Tamriel isn't earth, but I'm sure the good people of skyrimg wouldn't be riding horses if they had other, faster choices available. Such as bears...

Weak Dragons:
Switching to a higher difficulty fixes this, but still. Seems stupid that bandit maurauders are tougher than dragons.

While RP-elemts in this game are going the right way, dialogue wise:
It's still not good enough. Compare to a game like Dragon Age where you always had many options, in this game you are often left with ONE response.
At times, people will threaten you, and you don't get to do anything about it unless you want to screw a quest up. I remember countless of people being rude to me, where I just wanted to tell them to go screw themselves, but that wasn't an option.

Lack of character sheet:
This is annoying. Not having attributes is also a step back if you ask me. Simplicity is NOT always cool.

Lack of birth sign:
This bothers me too, but the stones make up for that. I still kinda wanted one though...

Being able to equip female armor:
having a smithing skill should at least call for the ability to refit armor. A steel plate made to fit a bosmer wouldn't fit a nord. Going to a forge and refitting an armor at no cost would be a great way to allow characters to improve their smithing skills too, as I tend to find that skill more and more in neglect as I progress through the game.

No damage to equipment:
While I actually found this annoying in oblivion and morrowind because of the extend at which it constantly happened and kept degrading the quality of the equipment, it would still call for more use of the smithing skill if you could repair your junk.

Charges on enchanted items:
I still find this silly. Only about 1/10 of all fairtale magic weapons need to be fed souls on a regular basis to work magic.
I still think there should be an alternative way to charge them.

People die when you hit them with your swords... Always! Unless they are quest-important:
Some times it would be cool if people just slumped over and were seriously hurt, bleeding out unless assisted. This would make companions much more enjoyable.

Blocking seems to work poorly:
Would be better if there was a chance to auto-parry/block if your skill is high enough, and perform counter attacks with no delay. That said, I like the new weapon clash thingy.

Not being able to kick people:
This get's old. Someone at bethesda must be a huge boxing fan. No neck snapping, no strangling, no grappling, no cool holds or throws, and worst of all... No kicks! Being able to kick an opponent during a melee fight would rock.

The ragged flagon and the ragged flagon cistern are two different areas:
This is annoying, as it means you have to go through two load screens all the time during that quest.

Cities and houses are the different areas:
Also annoying. I understand the need to have a loading screen when entering a city (even though I'd prefer it if it wasn't there), but having ALL of the houses as separate areas seems overkill.

I applaud the different looking versions of the same kind of gear:
It's just a shame that there there's only one or two cases of it. Would be awesome with different iron-sword models.

What happened to the shortsword? :
The diminished arsenal in Skyrim is a bit svcky to be honest.

No buy/sell-back function:
I keep having to reload because I accidentally sell stuff I wanted to keep or buy stuff by accident. This is really annoying.

Why can't you get a normal job?:
It could work like jail time, diminishing your skills unrelated to your job, but improving a particular skill.
Woodcutter could improve two-handed because you train the muscles needed to perform powerful blows, smithing could improve smithing. Working as a herbalist/alchemist could improve alchemy, you could work as an enchanter too, improving enchanting. Maybe work as a bard or shop- keeper/assistant to improve speechcraft. Work as a bouncer to improve one handed (as I have heard this is the skill that governs hand to hand) and as a hunter to improve marksmanship. Work as a miner to improve the same as a woodcutter... Just ideas... It would really improve the open game feel.
I would make it as a combination of jail time and resting, but also via skill level requirements. Fx. to work for the smith in riverwood, you would need to be novice level in smithing, but to work for the guy in Whiterun who tends the skyforge, you would need to be expert level.
I could find many other uses for a system like that, working as a guard perhaps? Or as a way to get very powerful blessings from the gods, by serving as a layman.

Smithing, lockpicking, pickpocketing, enchanting and alchemy affects your level, which affects the difficulty of the overall game:
While this sounds reasonable at first, it really isn't. I often end up with characters who can't meet the challenges, due to their talents being in non-combat related skills. These skills should not affect your characters "combat level", which could be a new value implemented in the game, that the game will then base it's difficulty on, and this value would be affected by your actual combat skills.

The law system:
It's almost as stupid as it has always been. There should be more options. Speechcraft should be a way to get away with crime. There should be a trial. People shouldn't always have the same reaction to crime. People should actually go GET a guard before one shows up, instead of them just becoming hostile and instantly knowing it was you. It would be cool if you stole something, and slipped away before the man you stole from could explain to the guards who did it. It would also be cool if you could get other people arrested by, for instance stealing from them, or starting a brawl with them with no witnesses (or witnesses who like you better), and then convincing the guard that the other guy just attacked you, to get him arrested.

The skull of corruption wont hang on weapon racks and the like:
This is obviously just a bug of sorts, but needs fixing as it is absoloutely RUINING my daedric artefact collection :P

The axe of whiterun won't behave normally when put on a weapon plaque or a weapon rack:
This is also annoying...

Arrows sometimes get stuck in you until you remove that particular kind of arrow from you inventory:
There are many solutions out there to this problem. Needless to say, it should be fixed in a patch soon.

Magical energies have none of the assumed effects:
Freezing water isn't possible, causing a fire isn't possible, causing water to heat up into steam isn't possible, lighting fire to grass to prevent an enemy from passing that way, isn't possible. lightning doesn't send people flying or cause spasms (stun).

No sheathed secondary weapon:
When dual wielding, only one weapon is shown as sheathed, the other one disappears. This is silly, but the biggest problem is: When planning how to attack an opponant, you can't prepare propperly when you don't know what he is going to pull out of thin air.

You can't block with two weapons:
One of the great advantages of wielding two weapons is that you can block and attack at the same time, I definately remember that from being a kid and playing with sticks! So this is also stupid. Instead, implement spiked shields, and and make a block button, and have the left mouse button be used to attack with your shield when your wielding one. A dedicated block button would be super swell.

You can't block with a bow:
Why cover your bow in the same metal you make armors from, if your not going to use it to stop that axe from connecting with your face? I just don't understand and find myself in that issue all the time.

A bow is wielded in the left hand, and a one handed sword is usually wielded in the right hand... Soo?:
Why can't you hold your bow in your left hand, and draw a sword with your right? Now that they have gone through all the trouble of making a left/right hand system, why not take it further?

Certain spells are best used in the same way as powers are. By hitting a button... But they still cause you to have to go through all the trouble of opening favourites and selecting it, casting it, and selecting your weapon again. Would be better with a hotkey to just instant cast it, and auto swap back to your previously equipped weapon.

A drink potion animation would be awesome:
Instead of being able to stop time and swallow several litres.

A maximum amount of potions pr. time:
Would be cool... I mean, potentially, your character could swallow an infinite amount of potions and just... It's silly, okay?

All those chemicals... :
There should be a toxicity effect, like in the witcher.

There is SOOO much food in the game, and they are no longer alchemical ingredients:
So why isn't hunger a factor? Would certainly put things in perspective if you had to carry rations and had to spend money on food, or work for it.

Being able to set up a camp would be cool:
Instead of having to find a bed, being able to just set up camp, or drop a bedroll somewhere and sleep in it, would be cool.

Tiredness:
Why isn't this an effect in the game? Would be cool if you actually needed sleep like everyone else in the game seems to do.
You would have to plan better... So, do I climb into the sewers, wait 8 hours while crouched with the skewers, and then attack while obviously suffering from lack of sleep? Or do I find some way to attack while I am at my best?

Potions with ridiculously short effects:
Would be cool if potions lasted longer in general.

Usefulness of scrolls non-existent:
If scrolls were cheap to make and didn't cost magica to cast, they would be much more useable.

Weather has no effect on the player:
Would be cool if it had a bigger impact on gameplay. A blizzard or mist might make stealth more effective. Rain might make it more difficult for a horse to get up a steep hill. Snow might limit the time you can be outside without suffering penalties from the weather.

annoying resets:
I tried using the display cases in jorvaskr, to display some things I put there, but after a while, I found my stuff on the floor and the original contents returned. It resulted in the loss of an amulet and a ring that were quest rewards.

Marriage system seems improvised:
It seems like something made by an amateur modder. You can do better.

Dogs are mercenaries:
This is annoying. My dogs home should be MY home, and my dog should be named what *I* name it, and I shouldn't have to pay 500 septims to make it follow me if I leave it at my house for 3 days. Of course, we can discuss weather it's reasonable to leave a dog alone in a house for 3 days :P But still.

Horses can't be renamed:
Minor annoyance. Still, worthy of mention.

Mercenaries are your employees:
You should be able to give them many more orders. "Learn this spell" for instance. Or "Live here" if you have a house you don't use, and you want your mercenary to guard it and live there.

Followers can now be commanded with!:
But sadly, the commands are way too limited. You can't even change the distance between you, or ask them to use another weapon. You can't ask them NOT to attack anyone. There should be a button that you can hit that causes all followers to stand down from combat and flee to safety if they are attacked. This button should work on horses too!

Seeing as horses are now trained attack dogs... :
It would be cool with horse armor, to make sure you don't waste 1000 septims by dismounting at the wrong time.

Would be cool if you could buy someones business:
Like, invest money in that alchemy shop to become a shareholder. Have your mercenaries travel around skyrim, collecting your cuts, and leaving them in a container somewhere.

Would be even cooler if you could start your own business:
Maybe there could be an abandoned house somewhere that you could turn into a store and have it sell your loot for you? Instead of bothering with travelling from town to town in order to sell all that loot, then just have it turned into profit at a slow rate.

Too few voice-actors:
Again, it seems we're listening to the same 5 people over and over again.

All children look alike:
While they are rather unimportant, it's still annoying.

Too few body types:
People of the same race are all the same height, and no one is fat...

I think that's it for now... :)

What exactly does a huge game studio like Bethesda do when they realized that they had hyped up a game so much and praise it as being the best in the series... and we get this? Skyrim has so many little things wrong with it, and it is being picked apart. I find it rather embarrassing... But or course the Elder Scrolls newbies just LOVE it!

I love the game like crazy...but here are my observations on what could be better. Been playing on expert level.

Horses: First of all, the whole horse experience is a million times better than it was in Oblivion....But really. If I am riding my horse and some stupid wolves attack, it will just sit there and take it. I can ride away, or dismount. If I dismount, it suddenly attacks. I can't tie my horse to a hitching post. To often it will charge into battle. What the heck is that about? Companions don't get mounts. Even my Wife has to walk!!!! What is up with that???

Spell Switch delay. I have one spell equipped. I equip a new spell. I have to like sheath and unsheath my hands...It is annoying.

Companion Control. First off, I like all the companion options in Skyrim. It is great as I don't feel like I am adventuring alone. But they still do stupid stuff. I can't give them advice, orders. When I say wait here. I mean, wait here. Not charge into battle if it nearby. Maybe I want them shooting arrows or something. It could be smoother.

Barbers: Other people already said this, but, this really should be an option to change your hair or face paint.

Mage Robes: I don't like them, or maybe I have not found enough options. But, the Arch Mage outfit looks like bumpkiss. He is wearing tassles! What is this boogie nights?

Name created items: Hard to find your inventions amongst all the stuff.

Better readout on specs. I can't really determine who good my defenses/offenses are or are not. There is not a clear summary. I love the UI and the Favorites, but I need some sort of comparison tool.

Guard System. I got busted because I stole a Broom! Right after I killed the two Dragons that were attacking the town. Holy Akatosh!

Why can't I make scrolls? Is this something I have not found yet?

I have to leave my horse wherever I fast travel, and my companion behind, because 2h power attacks are unwieldy and indiscriminate. I don't want my horse fighting. #1 overall thing that needs to be patched.

I hat Mjoll on my team until she kept attacking friendlies with AoE fireballs.

I have no challenge to the game whatsoever wearing legendary Dragon armor and a legendary Daedric warhammer. It's just whack-a-mole. It's been like that since epic steel armor and warhammer.

Ported console UI is shameful. It always is, have you ever heard anyone say anything #$%^ positive about that in history? That's a huge scar on your dev team IMO.

Lack of random encounters. Almost everything in the game can be traced to fast-travel points with no real mysteries for those who like to explore.

Why does every NPC fall to it's knees and surrender only to charge right back into battle? If you yield, yield and know that you're just not going to fool me.

I have crafted items that absolutely no vendor can afford.

What this game needs is incredibly high-end gear that costs a FORTUNE and gives you a reason to carry 70k septims around. So far I've only acquired like 5-6 actually unique items I.E. Masque of Clavicus Vile, Kroisos, Wabbajack, and Dawnbreaker.

Nords; Teutons, Scandinavians, or Americans? It would appear all 3 at once. Sadly, if the voice actor isn't American, it's either Skwizzgar or a really bad Arnold impersonation.

FOOD IS A USELESS BURDEN. It's not a skill that can be improved, the effects are not modified by your alchemy, the effects are pathetic, what happened? Oblivion actually had some utility to this, and you completely ruined it.

Aside from the stuff listed here, I'm pretty damn disappointed with cities. There are bandit hideouts more populated than some holds. I understand that maybe winterhold has had a calamity and is largely destroyed, but it's far from the only hold that is just ridiculously small. What excuse does falkreath have? And Morthal?

I say spend a little (just a little) less time on the dungeons, and more on adding houses, shops and NPC's to cities. I don't care if those NPC's have no role in the game. I'd just like them to be there for giving a feeling of being in a city.

Oh, and some stuff that shouldn't be wide open, totally is. Like when you enter riften some guy immediately starts talking about how the thieves guild is in the city. Or the door alongside the road that's obviously the dark brotherhood sanctuary. It feels like bethesda was afraid people would ignore those factions. If people immediately hear that the thieves guild is inside a city? How are there still any shops there? Or how would people still want to live there? Some parts of the game are just meant to be mysterious and slightly hard to find. Please keep them that way.

I actually liked how oblivion did it. If you commit a crime, or give money to a beggar, you can find out about the grey fox and that the thieves guild does exist. You may know that the dark brotherhood exists, but finding the sanctuary without someone showing you should at least require an effort other than walking along a road.

This sums it up. Aside from it being first person with s***ty combat, it's not a TES game anymore. So much has been taken out and "improved" that it's Just a dumbed down, terrible console port that even svcks on consoles. I dunno who in charge at Bethesda came up with these ideas, but former employees have to be scratching their heads on this one. It's just nit a TES quality game. It's good, but I, as well as MANY TES veterans, are hugely disappointed.

Agreed to the fullest, my Friend. However, I am sure that us nagging and whining about this... abomination is not going to make the game any better... Sigh.

For sure I am going to play it less, destruction is completely useless i can't even play my favorite character, a pure mage based on destruction spells which I have always done. I'm stuck with melee and it gets boring quick

I was playing on Adept as a pure mage with destruction and I was doing fine. I only got to level 22 though. Now I feel like playing the game on Master difficulty.
