Anyone else wish Skyrim were... more racist?

Post » Sat Jun 16, 2012 6:05 am

I know this is odd, but I wish race were taken into higher account for the game. For negative and positive effects. I know people playing argonians would complain if they had to do a quest or something to get into Windhelm, or a challenged by another to a brawl at every encounter for Orcs, but I'd like to feel my race makes a difference. If I'm playing a Nord, I want someone to whisper "Watch out for them damn Elves.". Anyone else wish race took a bigger effect into how NPCs interact?

I know the argument that voice acting would be effective but costly. I usually mute Skyrim and play music, so I use subtitles. I really wish I felt like a pariah or a brother.

I play as an Argonian, they don't really care. I play as a Nord, they really don't care.

Racism is very apparent in this game, I just made an Imperial and Stormcloaks or Stormcloak supporters tell me I am disgusting and so on.

Also visit Windhelm OP.

Yes. It's pretty glaring to see blatant racism towards npc Dunmer/Khajit/Argonians/High Elves, but somehow we the player are immune to racism. (Or more likely, they just wrote all situations under the assumption we would be the default Nord dragonborn.)

I would like this as well to give me more reason to kill pathetic fools who think its ok to dis me. Whenever I hear someone talking about my race I make sure I let them know how I feel about them...

yeah i do a bit anyway, on my 4th playthrough, i choose an Altmer just to see the reaction, as they are the same race as the Thalmor, ive had a few Elf comments, but only about 2 or 3 who have mentioned Altmer or Thalmor, and im level 74 now

I think Bethesda did a good job with the mild racism. Any more would have been annoying. I would like the factions and rank of office to have a lot more weight in this game.

He does have a point, your race really dosnet even factor into the game. The only real area in the game that I found that race really has an effect is at the orc strongholds. I went to
wendhelm with a dark elf character, and other than the first city enconter, i didnt have any kind of hard ship to endure. You would think that race would have a lot more to do with your standings. Prices at shops, being able to use a shop, being able to enter certan parts of citys, random fist fights, there is a lot you could do to add that envornment (which is suggusted, but not really experanced) to Skyrim.

When in windhelm as a dark elf you should only be allowed to live in the grey quarter and shouldnt be allowed in any of the nord shops or the candleharth inn because you are a dark elf.
Currently people talk about dark elves as if you aren't one. They say "those dark elves" instead of "you dark elves".
Also argonians should have to keep out of windhelm until you do a quest to persuade Ufric that you aren't mere animals. Same goes for Kajhit (however you spell it). I thought they werent allowed in nord cities.

I would love to be able to destroy every thalmor ass in the game including the leader up in solitude. Last time i attacked a group of thalmor my follower left my serviced and started attacking me. So i reloaded and said i worship talos job done.

Judging by the freak-out people have for what little racism there is in the game, I don't think the masses could handle it any more. Maybe in Morrowind days.

Khajiit caravans. It's not clear that all Khajiit are banned from cities.

Yep. Everytime i pop the disc in. I can understand nearly all the oversights and "cuts" or whatever from this game. I just wish they added a little more "seasoning" into this game. ....just bring back a darn disposition system of some sort at least.

Though i would really enjoy race specific "lockouts" for certain quests. Or at least different work arounds for those quests...mucho work for devs though...so i can understand...but like I said.....a disposition system wouldnt have been too killer to implement.

Some [censored] Nord called my Argonian a boot once, and he wasn't a bandit.

Racism was definitely far more apparent in Morrowind. Everywhere you turned you could pretty much sense it. Then there was the slave trading of the Khajiit and Argonians.

I think the amount of racism in this game is fine but there should be some towards your character at least.

Have you ever seen a Khajiit in a city? Apart from in the MQ when a Khajiit Thalmor helper tries to kill you in Riften.
Speak to Ysolda and she will tell you that they aren't trusted because they are thought to be pickpockets so they can't go into he cities.
