Anyone else wish Skyrim were... more racist?

Post » Sat Jun 16, 2012 12:42 am

I always found the racism towards dark elves to be dumb did'nt they fight against the Aldmeri dominion in the great war?

Maybe Bethesda thought it was a rule that only dark-skinned people can be victims of racism, thus they through out the obvious need for racism against Altmer and substituted it with illogical hate for Dunmer? Hell if I know...

Finally, I found a fellow altmer that hates the thalmor but is okay with the concept of the dominion.
We are one in the same on this issue then.

The Numidium.

Edit : I just remember Tiber Septim had a dragon soldier http://www.imperial-library.info/content/nafaalilargus
I know about the Numidium. And that was needed to help destroy the first Dominion. One cannot deny there power to do that would be like denying that air exist.

Interwesting find on the dragon soldier thank you for that.

Tiber Septim conquered the whole of Tamerial and thus begain the third era. Despite the destruction of The Numidium. The Empire held together until the aftermath of the Oblivion crisis.
I very well know that but he still needed the Numidium to defeat the first Dominion. See ny above post.
His empire was indeed legendary but he needed a second power artifact to defeat the mer of the Summerset.

It can be argued however that at that time the summerset isle had the protection of the psijic, there's no real evidence of that though.

I would say at that time they probably did but like you said that is speculative at best, I just think they had Arteaum on their side and its a loss to the Thalmor that the Psijic Order wants nothing to do with them, also the Altmer have other very powerful wizards I am sure as does the Thalmor.

Exactly, racism doesn't apply to Player Character, which makes no sense of course there is an excuse that you're dragonborn, but before you do that quest?

It's not like they have to forbid acces to khajiit or the likes they can just make them pay taxes or some sort before they enter the city for the first time, sure it wouldn't be fair but that's how it should be, at least to me.

I don't think the game needs to be more 'racist', but definitely take the PC's race into account more often than it does (A lot more). The ship may have sailed on that though for Skyrim and it is something for a future game. The radiant story engine could even encompass this IMO.

NPC Khajiit are so hard done by in Skyrim, are the Nords really that afraid they are going to steal everything that isn't tied down? Most of my PCs have taken the time to converse with the Khajiit trading caravans - it takes balls to offer the service they are given Skyrim's current situation.

Yeah, I think Skyrim did fine on racism for npcs but not for player character

I would enjoy to see more people react to my race. Rather odd to see them talk about "Those Damn Argonians" when I'm standing right there. Why not "You damn Argonians" or something along those lines?

On another note, I wonder how the Stormcloaks would react to learning Tiber was a Breton....

The less sane ones would be asking every Breton woman to marry them.

Racism is very apparent in this game, I just made an Imperial and Stormcloaks or Stormcloak supporters tell me I am disgusting and so on.

Also visit Windhelm OP.

I made a Redguard the other day and some of the stuff the women say to my character is funny. Never thought redguards to be good looking to a nord female. Maybe it's because he has a light skintone lol

In a way yes, but it's probably due more to the lack of PC acknowledgement rather than an inherent dislike toward the player in Skyrim. A Khajiit for example can walk around the city freely and not be questioned by anyone despite that they are bared from entering the city. Meanwhile an Argonian can join the stormcloaks despite their hatred for anyone non-Nord and the fact non in their ranks apart from possibly the player is of non-Nordic decent. I just wished my gender and race where mentioned and factored more than it is, about the most I get is "Damned Imperial" from Stormcloaks.
 The Stormcloaks do not "hate anyone non-Nord." Where are you getting this?

You can meet a Dunmer or redguard farmer on the road going to join the Stormcloaks. Some of the Stormcloak jarls have more non-Nords in their households than their imperial counterparts.

I really thought the forum was past this.

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder I guess.
I do wish there was more acknowledgment towards your character regarding what race you are.
Other than that the amount of racism in the game is fine as it is.

The problem is that people exaggerate the racism against Dunmer, generalizing it to everyone in Windhelm when it's only two dumb drunks. That's where the logic fail comes from. One of those same drunks threatens Niranye with violence. So, see? Not illogical at all.

Would that be the same as saying the racism in Morrowind was exaggerated just because there was a single Telvanni stronghold thay sold slaves. I think if things like this in a broader spectrum because the cities are actually a lot bigger than Skyrim represents and there is going to be a lot more than two ignorant drunks.

The people we see are meant to be representative so it doesn't change the proportions.

You are seeing it as two, as you have stated several times over several threads others see it as a bigger problem. The same things was said about the Dunmer in Morrowind, there were those that defended them and some that spine against them. Thay does not change the fact that they were racist most of them anyways, just like some Nords and the Stormcloaks and their supporters. I had one call me a filthy imperial what is that if not racist?
