mayhap for the next gen consoles
Yes MMO and 256 MB ram will not work very well. Just the idea of loading Stormwind then busy on 256MB bogles my mind and WOW has old graphic.

The problem being a modern computer that can run all new games costs between £500-1000. Not many people have that spare cash lying around.

Well you have dcuo which runs fine on the ps3. Also dust 514 is coming and this game supports the entire eve online galaxy, correct? Ps3 is heading in the direction of mmo's.

I was kind of annoyed by the fact that the game will only be for PC and Mac. I do have an alienware, but I feel more comfortable with a controller in my hand than a keyboard and a mouse.

Bethesda will continue to churn out console titles for you. I'm glad ZOS is making this MMO for computers.

You can afford an alienware computer, but not a controller for it?

Because an Xbox and a PS3 don't have the processing power for a live game world like this. Also, you can purchase a controller for your PC. I'm not trying to start a PC vs console flame, I'm just stating the truth.

MMO's often require more key binds than a controller can comfortably handle, although it's possible a keyboard+gamepad set-up would get you around this. (I played Oblivion with a joystick+mouse and had a great time, it's a shame few games support this setup).

Playing a console MMO with a Controller AND keyboard combo is an instant no brainer......we did it almost 10 years ago with EQOA and FFXI on a Playstation 2 for crying out loud.

Perhaps the current generation of consoles might not be able to handle certain aspects of the engine, like 200-player PvP.

I was thinking along the lines that ArenthianSniper may be able to play this on his computer and still use a gamepad. As for console support, I doubt the interface is the only barrier keeping this away.

It's not so much that they CAN'T work hardware wise, it's more that the subscription model cannot be applied so easily. For example, Champions Online was also developed for Xbox 360 pretty late into the process. It never came out because the developer wanted to apply a subscription model to the gamer. Microsoft told them 'no'. For Microsoft all online gaming must be covered by the Xbox Live Gold Subscription. You can charge extra for DLC and bonus features, but they must be sold through Xbox Marketplace. Third party subscriptions, going directly to the developer, are simply not allowed by Microsoft.

Cryptic originally wanted the game to be available even to Xbox Live Silver users, and subscribed directly to them. They tried for ages to get that to happen. They failed. As will any other company.

You aren't expected to have that much lying around offhand. That's why you save.

Yet the let Final Fantasy do it, so something doesn't sound right there... It can happen, but will it is a whole different thing. I'm betting there waiting for Next Gen myself.

nope, and i'm glad. Most (Not all) of the console community are angry children or idiots. Then again, most(Again, not all) of the PC communites are elitists.

No MMO's on consoles, they cant handle it. Most MMO's have low settings anyhow. I played WoW fine on my Compaq with low settings. Played a few other MMO's on an ancient Dell with very weak parts. So long as you don't run about crying about the graphics, just about any computer should be able to handle an mmo.

Edit: I forgot about the FF MMOS, so most of this is invalid now <__>

MMO with the playstyle of WoW wouldn't be good on a console. It would have to be over-simplified, because you can't have enough hotkeys mapped to your xbox controller. Which means it would cater to those on console and would be a crappy port for PC.

It has been tried many times the recent (in my mind) is DCUO by sony. It is just way too much resources and code. Plus most consolers don't want to pay an extra monthly fee to play an MMO.

It is a nice thought but just won't work in this decade unless a company wants to throw tons of money at something and recieve little in return.

DC universe online just took up way too much space on my PS3. I had to delete it just so I could play anymore games.

Also, the only good thing it had going for it was flying and it became free to play after some months.

it won't work on console because its going to be 3rd person keyboard fail fest.

if it was the same controls as skyrim, yes it would work ( would svck with the chat though)

oh and whoever says mmos don't work on console should see the " no decent mmo has ever came to console" fact.
WoW has been mapped to the 360 controller and worked fine, the only real thing needed now is a way to chat to others without lolkeyboard or 200 kids screaming in a town.

I'd say it is better that TES:Online is better kept off consoles.

Frankly, it would not be successful on consoles, and would be a complete waste of money and manpower.

Furthermore, if a console TES player saw a TES mmo, they may think that it would actually play somewhat similar to a real TES game. They could possibly waste money an become rather disappointed simply based on the name and the expectations that come with the title "THE ELDER SCROLLS". I'd rather have the game stay PC exclusive, so the disappointment remains PC exclusive.

I just realized how funny this is.

TES:Online not only pisses off the die-hard fans of the series that have been playing TES games on PC for years, as well as forming a huge modding community that has helped Bethesda sell many, many extra copies of the PC titles to people who already owned the games on consoles and wanted to see what the modding fuss was all about.

But this announcement also pisses of the console players who have been equally as loyal, despite getting shafted continually in terms of no modding support and etc. I'm a big supporter of Bethesda designing for PC and PC only, because I think the game is better that way, but it amuses me to see that now they've managed to alienate BOTH sides of the fence.

I can almost hear Yakkity Sax playing, because this derp cascade is hilarious at this point.
